My husband s parents live not far from Athens, and partake in the cultural things the school has to offer. I think unless you re employed by the university, your chances of finding work may be limited. Also, it appears that a lot of the housing is geared toward students, and the town-- while quaint/funky --also has a depressed side.
It s very nice but not really quaint...more like a funky college town..pretty inexpensive.
