Ever have to cancel a trip/vacation at the last minute? -

If so, tell us the story...

One of my indoor cats got outside and she was hiding. I refused to leave her and we cancelled a trip to NY City and a concert to try to get her in.We ended up trapping her in a humane trap my neighbor gave me about a week later. She had lost about 30% of her weight and was very frightened. The only good thing that came out of it is that the cat was never nice to my husband. She was always swatting at him he walked by. He was the one that brought her inside and ever since then she s loved him.

My mother had to cancel her trip to FLA last year. Although she had only booked a flight. She was staying with a friend. She had also purchased the travel insur for $25.00.I almost cancelled one this year but I got the travel agent to comply with what I wanted. So in my mothers case--she canceled her flight. Jet Blue or Delta. The airline gave her 1 year to make up the flight. She missed the date by 3 weeks and didn t end up getting the credit but if was offered. In my case. The website quoted a wrong price and I fought it by saying that I would cancel the whole thing. In the end they caved and I got 5 nights for the price of 4.If it s a medical issue the airlines are usually very forgiving. This is a good reason to purchase the insur. for little $$.If you have no insur on the trip I think you can change the date for a $100 fee.I think in the end they will always offer something in exchange as not to lose your business.Good Luck.

I bought a ticket to Alaska to visit this girl, and then just days before I was going to leave, I found out she d been seeing someone else - for two months. I couldn t get the $500 ticket refunded, but I was able to use it as airline credit, so the next time I took a trip it was first class.

What time should I drive from Manchester, NH to Concord, NH today? -

it s a storm out just wondering if anyone knows when the best time would be.also should i drive the high way or back roads!?

93 is fine right now. leave now.

I have no idea of the best time, but I would take the highways - they are more regularly plowed and salted and patrolled by the state police. Secondary and tertiary highways - who knows....

Why do they say Brooklyn is the 7th largest City? -

Well it s actually known as The Fourth Largest City in the US.Because before the amalgamation of New York City in 1898, Brooklyn was its own city and a very large one. Brooklyn is the most populated borough in New York City, with over 2.5 million people. Most people think Manhattan is the most populated borough, but it s actually third behind Brooklyn and Queens.Brooklyn is larger than Houston which is the 4th largest city in the US. So that s why it s known that way.

Population.

size comparision if it was one.

Which of these areas in Manhattan has the lowest crime rate? -

MidtownUpper WestUpper EastTribeccaSohoLower East SideChelseaInwoodDyckman areaWashingtong heightsHarlem

New York now bills itself as the safest big city in the country.Seems that way to me.To answer you Id say Midtown. Everything else is mostly residential consequently more opportunity for crime.Even still, not as bad as it used to be.

All of them. My friend, New York City is a lot safe now than it use to be some 20 years ago. Don t believe what you see on TV.By the way Washington Heights is misspelled.Good luck

Looking for a room in houston near the consulate of italy? -

The Italian Consulate is on Post Oak, near the Galleria. There are plenty of hotels, extended stay hotels apartments in that area. I would check on Craig s List in Houston for a room.http://www.houston.craigslist.org.

How is Eau Claire, Wisconsin? -

I m looking into attending the University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire. I ve always regarded the mid-west as the jewel of this nation. With that, I m curious to know: how are the people out there, and life itself? Would you say that the people who reside in that part of Wisconsin are exceptionally nice compared to other parts of the country? Is it true that they can be racist or gay-hating at times, or is this just a useless stereotype? What are the main political beliefs in the area? Would you say that there is much to do in Eau Claire -- the social life, the city itself, etc? How would you rate the area on a scale of one to ten, with ten being the most amazing in the country?

Eau Claire is friendly, as a trucker I went through there a lot, and there is a truck stop there I would stop at every time. Not the best food but nice people every time. I can not see them being racist as there are many people with various back grounds gay bashers are found every where so I would leave that part out. I have never seen much to do in Eau Claire even though it is not far from a lot of interesting things to do. As a visito I would give it a 7 on your 1-10 scale. Mainly because I found a lot of things I would like to do in nearby areas.

Is it a good idea to hire a SUV and drive from Las vegas to Garnd Canyon? -

I come from Australia, planning to visit las vegas in early January and hire a SUV to go to Grand Canyon and back.I am trying to understand how complicated the route and the traffic can get? They are charging us around $170 American dollars per person (for two people) to rent the SUV for 24 hours excluding the gas cost and the insurance cost (insurance being around $35). I am just trying to weight the pros and cons here and see if this is feasible. Any useful comments is appreciated

There is nothing rugged about the drive to the South Rim. Just rent any car.------The West Rim is heavily promoted because it is much closer (has the skywalk). However, it is a well organized operation that charges huge amounts of money for literally everything you do. The indigenous tribe that owns the land makes sure you will be paying fees constantly. The South rim is parkland.-------It is too far to do comfortably in a day trip. Leave in the afternoon, and spend the night in an inexpensive motel on the interstate near Falstaff. Get up at the crack of dawn and drive to the South Rim. Explore during the day, and either return to the motel, or drive back to Vegas. You will probably need a two day rental on the vehicle.

Much better and cheaper to rent beside you can see much more.If you want to see the real Grand Canyon you need to go to the South Rim of the park. The part of the GC that is most advertised, is on an Indian Reservation at the extreme West of the canyon. There are really lots of places that you can see easily on way to the South Rim. Lake Mead http://vegasnature.com/LakeMead.htm Hoover Dam http://vegasnature.com/HooverDam.htm Colorado River http://vegasnature.com/ColoradoRiver.htm Oatman http://vegasnature.com/Oatman.htm Grand Canyon http://vegasnature.com/GrandCanyon.htm on the way back stop in Laughlin http://vegasnature.com/Laughlin.htm http://www.vegasnature.com/ has videos of each area followed by maps showing how to get there

Car rental companies in the USA don t charge per person. Rental charges are per day and the fee to add a second driver is typically $5 per day. I just checked the rates at http://www.thrifty.com/ and for Jan. 11-12 an SUV is $48.83 per day rented from McCarran (the Las Vegas airport).Liability insurance comes with the rental. Loss damage waiver is around $20 per day and covers accidental damage to the car but if you have a premium VISA or MC it may offer free LDW insurance on car rentals. Check your credit card s web site.I would definitely rather drive myself on my own schedule than sit on a tour bus which could be full of screaming kids and comply with their schedule.

If you do not want to go through all of that hassle, you can always take an SUV Grand Canyon tour from Las Vegas. They have all kinds of Grand Canyon tours to choose from. I will give you some links below you can check out.

24 hours? You can find a better deal than that! They re ripping you off. Consider taking a Pink Jeep tour instead. Just google Pink Jeep tours Las Vegas . At the price the rental company is charging you, you could rent a comfortable RV and make a real adventure by staying.

You don t need SUV just a car but there is a great bus ride that takes you back and forth in same day, and you relax both ways (recommend)

READ THIS FLY HERE THEN GO WITH YOU OWN RENTAL CAR

Although I am in the minority, I have taken a couple trips to the grand canyon from Las Vegas on the Grey Line tours. Check em out, I am sure they have their own website for reservations and they often have discounts if you make the reservations a month or so in advance. I paid $160 for two of us for an all-day, round trip passage on a bus and had a WONDERFUL trip. We went to the western rim that trip, next time will be to the south rim.It is MUCH easier to take a bus. They pick you up outside your hotel, take you to the bus terminal they have just off the strip, put you on the bus, and off you go in comfort for the day s trip. I felt that they left us with enough time at each stop to take pictures and get in all our oooohs and aaahhhhs and everyone I talked to on the bus had a great time. One thing you get on a bus that you don t if you go yourself in a rental car is the bus driver filling you in about historical and interesting information about stuff you pass or stop and see. If you have any questions, there is also someone there to ask at all times.I usually like to drive myself when we go visit places on vacations (and we get to Vegas probably 4-5 times a year on average) but when I take day-long trips out of Vegas (especially after a night of partying) it is nice to just relax and let someone else do the driving and just enjoy.Sometime later I will rent a car and go back and take a couple days to fill in the gaps of the places along the way that we may want to see, but for a single day s trip out to the grand canyon, I don t think you can beat the tour buses.Keep in mind also that whoever is driving is not at ease to check out everything along the roadway (including the awesome Hoover dam you will go over), so that is something to consider also.

I have done this trip three times. Once with a Ford Mustang and twice in Mini Vans. It is paved road all the way, mostly highway. No need for an SUV unless that is what you like to drive. We stoped at Hoover Dam as well. This trip is mostly highway driving through desert. Not a lot of rest stops along the way. We arrived in Vegas on Friday, rented the vehicle, stopped for the breakfast buffet at the Paris and ate well, (do not need lunch if you eat a large breakfast) bought a disposable styrofoam cooler, a bag of ice as well as soft drinks and some snacks at a minimart and off we went. It takes a good 5 hours to reach the Grand Canyon. We checked in to a hotel right outside the park and then drove into the park to watch the sunset. Amazing! Then we drove back to the hotel, had dinner and turned in early. We got up before dawn, had breakfast and drove back into the Park for sunrise. Spent the day exploring the Grand Canyon which has paved roadway around the rim with plenty of parking and overlook points. There are souvenir shops and a lookout tower as well. After having our fill of all this scenic beauty, we headed back to the hotel, stopping along the way at a steak house for dinner and stopped to check out a native American flea market. Sunday morning, we checked out and went back to Vegas to check into our Strip hotel. We drove back to the rental car place and swapped the mini van for a small car to serve us for the week. Saved money because the hotel at the Grand Canyon was much cheaper than the Strip hotel was for Friday and Saturday (weekends are much more expensive in Vegas hotels). The way to go! *

Ignoring the notion that I think that SUV s are the kind of death machines that the US goverment should have made illegal many years ago ,the fact of the matter is that in all of the times that I ve made that trip -100+ x and in all weather conditions -I ve never needed one nor have I ever needed a vehicle with 4wdSave your money and your life and rent a front wheel drive sedan w/a V-6 in it If you do the Mr Danger Great Circle Loop that looks like this Pop this into mapquest or whateverLAS GCN Cameron AZ Lees Ferry AZ Jacob Lake AZ Mount Carmel Junction UT St George UT LASYou may hit snow on the LAS GCN leg from Ashfork AZ to Williams AZ possibly thru the Park and then you will lose it as you leave the Kaibab National Forest /Navajo Reservation boundary on SR 64 from Desert View to Cameron AZbtw the Cameron Trading Post is a good place to spend a night before you do the other half of this circle..which has to be done in daylight until you reach Mesquite NVhttp://www.camerontradingpost.com/lodge.From Cameron to Lees Ferry and then to the base of the switchbacks at House Rock Valley on US89A is snow -free or if it isn t there aren t any amounts to worry about From HRV up to Jacob Lake, then down to the end of the Ponderosa pines can get really snowyLose most of the snow coming into Fredonia AZ and it usually stays that way to Mount Carmel Junction/Rt 9 into Zion NPOnce you reach the crossbedded sandstones in Zion you will be snow free all the way back to LAS.What you have to remember is that in that part of the American West the snow line is 100% contigent upon your altitude ; Just as you can upclimb to get into it you can also downclimb to get out of itEnjoy the CanyonOne more thing :It s going to be COLD above 5000 in January. You could easily run into daytime highs that are just above 32F and nightime lows that are around 12F Update Wow 3 thumbs down for a 100% correct answerSince this is the Las Vegas section Q:If I see a vehicle upside down by the side of the road the odds that it is NOT an SUV area)excellentb) good c)fair d)hahahahahahaha What else could it be ?

HOW COLD IT GETS IN LAS VEGAS WINTER ? -

I LIVE IN LOS ANGELES AND I WAS WONDERING HOW COLD IS IT IN WINTER IS IT JUST AS HOT AS SUMMER CUZ WHEN I WENT THERE SUMMER IT WAS LIKE BURNING HOT OR IS IT SAME AS LOS ANGELES WINTER?

Ave in Nov 65 during the day 40 at night windy oftenAve high for Dec 55 during the day Ave night 36 windy oftenAve high for Jan 50 during the day 29 at night often windyWe get down right cold, if your from L.A. I moved from southern CA as well. The winters are much colder here then there.

If you want cold you can get it in Vegas. Tt snows in Vegas up in the mountains just a 1/2 hour from the strip? take a look at vegasnature.com and click on the Spring Mountain Picture. We actually have a ski area. If that is not your thing just keep clicking and see where else you can go.But the strip and down town are much warmer. You will need a coat for the evening however.

You can get some very warm days in winter. However, when the wind kicks up , the wind chill factor can go below freezing.

Look up Las Vegas on wikipedia. Vegas in winter is about the same as Vicrtorville. A little colder than San Bernardino.

Is Key West good place to take boyfriend and he can wear makeup there? -

Hey Guys! A while ago, I got my boyfriend to allow me to put makeup on him. It was all in fun :)Well, he enjoyed it as well as I but we are kinda confined to the house with this. Small town, not too accepting. I d like take him on vacation someplace where he could actually wear it out in the open. No, it s not emo or drag makeup. Before you ask - yes, he is open to wearing it out in a place where we aren t really recognized. He s even willing to go in to get a makeover and all with me - full spa day out.So, Key West a good place or any other ideas? Thanks :)

Sure. Key West would be fine. He would probably be fine at South Beach, too.

Seriously.

Should I move to Phoenix, AZ? -

So right now I live in Toledo, Ohio of all places. This place is dying and well known for being a place you DON T want to live. It s almost embarrassing to say I m from here! haha! I grew up right outside the border actually in Michigan, but Toledo is so close I could walk there. Anyway--- My fiance and I hate the cold. We would ideally love to live in a place where it doesn t snow. It s miserable here for at least 6 months out of the year. Who wants to live like that?I ve done some research and I think Phoenix could be the place for us. The housing market looks great for our end and there are certainly more jobs in Phoenix than in god forsaken Toledo. The only downfall is that all 5 of my siblings + my parents will most likely stay around here, at least somewhere in the state of Ohio. Is Phoenix worth the move? Is the summer heat UNBEARABLE? Any major pro s and con s?

I originally came from NYC and then moved to upstate NY, then Scranton and finally ended up in San Diego until three years ago when I moved to Buckeye, AZ.I feel your pain regarding the cold weather. The heat is on all the time, your skin gets very dry and it s just a royal pain to walk out and get the mail. I ll take the extreme heat any day. During the summer here I have played over 100 rounds of golf in 110+ temperatures. You just bring ice water, wet towels and six bottles of water to drink. It s fun, especially since summer golf prices are so cheap. Winter rates are $129 at one PGA course and only $29 during summer. Another is $89 vs $16.00 with $6 replays offered.I told you in a sidebar email about the real estate prices. As for family, maybe they re still there because they had no reason to leave. With you and Mr. T in Arizona maybe this will give them a reason to leave Ohio. One thing I find funny is that with the Hispanic influence here I still have not had a good Mexican dinner like I used to have in San Diego. We went to ON THE BORDER lastnight in Goodyear and on a scale of 1-10 it was only a 5. Other than the Mexican food, I would say land a job first, move here and rent a place to learn the area and then buy if the price is right.

phoenix is great- ireally miss it and mow live in dayton of all places. the summers get pretty hot, but people who live out there treat that as their winter (minus the shoveling and hazardous roads- they do more indoor activities, etc. but it s bearable unless you work outdoors. an acceptable tradeoff to be able to lay by the pool in february. there are so many reasons that phoenix is better than toledo- jobs and growth included.

YES! people from Michigan seem to love Phoenix. I know a handful of people here and they are from areas like Kalamazoo and Lancing and call Phx home now. They ll never move back. There s a lot of opportuinity here in this huge city. We have no snow blizzards, bad humidity, huge bugs, earth quakes or tornados........just HOT summers.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!It is real cold in the winter and REALLY REALLY hot in the summerIm gonna move to San Deigo CA you should move there

The problem with Phoenix is that a lot of companies set up offices there but when the economy crashed they closed them up. If you already have a job offer then it s not a bad idea but if you are hoping to show up and get a job you might want to reconsider.Phoenix is very hot in the summer, around 110f and above during the summer. It does get cold in the winter, the night time temperature can drop into the 20 s f, that may not seem bad compared to Ohio but once you live there a while you will be cold. Also there are not a lot of trees, rain comes in monsoons and then is gone, and the wind blows so hard they have brownouts, where the dust is so heavy in the air you can t see across the street. Also you will have to prepare yourself for the culture shock. Even though there has been a huge influx of Anglos over the past 30 years the basis of the culture is still Hispanic. Spanish is spoken as often as English. My suggestion is that if you aren t moving right away for a job you take a vacation to the area, at the least a 4 day trip. Look around and see what you think.

Some of the info above I disagree with. You ll love Phoenix. Yes, it does get hot in the summer but we have something called air conditioning. Due to air conditioning, our summers are not unbearable. We run from our air conditioned homes to our air conditioned cars to the air conditioned stores and buildings - ha. You will become acclimated to the heat. Just remember to drink of lots of water and apply sunscreen every day - not just when going swimming. The location of your home here in Phoenix should be determined by your job location - traffic commutes can be miserable as we are the 5th largest city in the US. We moved here from VA and do not miss the snow and ice at all. If you do get a yearning for the four seasons we are only a two drive from Flagstaff with autumn colored leaves, snow and even a snow ski resort. I have relatives in Ohio and often see them as winter guests - ha! They ll love our winters.
