Whats your opinion of Parma, OH? -

I was on some Cleveland local news websites reading about the recent fire at Parmatown Mall. I was surprised to see people post negative opinions about the city of Parma. I grew up in Parma and didn t know it has become so bad. People talk like it s going to be a ghetto in a few years. I know lots of people who have lived in Parma their entire lives. If it s so bad, I think they would have moved by now. And, I don t hear very much about Parma on the news, so I didn t think their crime rate has risen that much. I have driven through Parma on a few occasions and thought it was kept up very well. People s houses and yards looked great. Has Parma become a bad place to live? What s your opinion about Parma?

Parma is a decent place to live that has maintained a well kept housing stock and neighborhood safety. Parma unfairly has a negative connotation, mostly because it is working class and the prevailing architecture in the community is considered unfashionable. Parmatown Mall is not a draw for anyone outside the community. It is also difficult to get to for most Cuyahoga residents, and people lament going there - particularly for the big Ohio BMV center located there. There is also a belief that Parma residents and perhaps the local government are racist. There has been a slight decrease in residents and a slight increase in crime, and reaction has likely exaggerated the actual state of the city. Some of the content on a wikipedia article sheds light on some of these issues.

I think Parma is still a good middle class city. Mayor DiPiero does a reasonable job, especially since they ve lost revenue due to job losses at Chevy and Ford. I wouldn t have any problem living there again.

Parma is the West side Euclid, though, it s not evolving as quickly. One good trait the city has is it s strong ethnic population. Hopefully, that will help sustain it for the foreseeable future.

When I think of Parma- Older homes, Middle Class, Lower middle class (if there is such a thing) Churches, boweling alleys, and no easy way to the highway.Parma mall isn t very nice, compared to Beachwood, Crocker Park, Strongsville.I do not live in Parma, but I do not think it s a ghetto. I am sure it has some bad parts just like most cities. There was just an article in the Cleveland Plain Dealer, that was rated a great place to raise a family according to Busniess Week. (November)They also mentioned Lakewood. Parma cities also was rated one of the safest places to live in the US. I think, ranked 30.Just google it. And schools are still pretty good,I wouldn t buy a house there but I feel safe when I am there.

Well I hate to say it but I have a negative view on Parma. I ve been over there a couple of times maybe it was just the neighborhood I was in, but all the houses looked the same. Growing up I used to hear how racist Parma was I don t know how true that is, but I honestly never heard anything good about Parma. I love going to Parmatown Mall when I can get over to that side of town, but I remember that terrible story some Christmases ago when that mother was abducted from the parking lot of the mall. I think there have been other cases of women being in danger in the parking lot at Parmatown. So to me it seems like Parma was never a good or safe place to live in the first place, but I m just an outsider looking in.

Good Places in connecticut close to hartford and new jersey? -

Can you suggest some nice places in Connecticut / New york, that is affordable and commutable from New york and Hartford, Connecticut. My hubby might have to work in Hartford, CT and I work in Jersey City.So we are looking to move to a midpoint location that is commutable both ways.

It s just not practical unless you re both incredibly patient and unbelievably rich. Those two towns are 120 miles apart so at best both of you will have a 60 mile commute through some brutal traffic. The towns that are halfway between, like Westport and Darien, are in southwest Connecticut and are very expensive. Your communting expenses will be substantial.

Why is the city quot;Detroitquot; the city no one wants to live in? -

Homes ( Four Bedrooms ) are going for $15,000 dollars in the city limits. However, people are running up and down the streets shooting each other and stabbing each other every day. Car jackings and robberies happen on many streets. Detroit used to have over 2 and a half million now has 800,000 people. The city is 91% black people. What is going on?

Excuse me.........people are not running up and down the streets shooting people, okay. You just haven t seen the good parts. There are some really cool cities outside of Detroit. Do some research before you ask the question:)

-Colleges in Arizona-? -

sorry for such a general question.I m poking my head around at colleges and at the moment (as I m just a sophomore) I m mainly looking at locations that interest me. I ve already looked around a lot at schools in California but know relatively nothing about Arizona. What are the best schools? Particularly for a Liberal Arts degree in Journalism, English or History. Is Arizona State any good ?Any smaller schools? What are the best college towns with cool things to do (art, music scenes etc.)?Thanks~

ASU is a huge school. Although they have the renowned Walter Cronkite School of Journalism, you need to be concerned about the quality of education you will be getting at a school with almost 70,000 students. Its in Phoenix/Tempe, the fifth largest city in the country, so don t worry about not having much to do.University of Arizona is about 40,000 and has the only medical school in Arizona. It is a much more research-based university, known for its excellent astronomy and aerospace engineering programs (think Mars rovers). Tucson is only about half a million people I think, and you may have trouble finding things to do on the weekend...Northern Arizona University has a much smaller student population, about 16,000. It is known for having the best education program in the state. Also, it is located in the much smaller, cooler city of Flagstaff. Also, skiing/snowboarding is only a 30 minute drive away :)

Particularly for a Liberal Arts degree in Journalism, (Your words.)The Walter Cronkrite School of Journalism.I m in my 50 s and would love to reverse my course and attend this school. Go for your dreams. Change majors if you have to. Trust your gut. The world needs different talents for tomorrow than it does for today.
