Best Ways to Spend a Saturday in New York City with my Girlfriend? -

My girlfiend and are going to NYC for the day on saturday. We are going to take public trans from Philadelphia in the morning. I am 23 and my gf is 22 (been together for almost 2.5 years). I have never been to NYC but my girlfriend has a number of times. I would like a mix of touristy stuff and just all around nice things to do in NYC. -cool places go/see-nice lunch spots (not too expensive) How would you recommend we spend the day in NYC?The more ideas, suggestions and details the better

Congrats to you both!I am going to NYC this weekend as well. Taking public transportation is brutal, especially if you plan on taking Septa Regional Rail to Trenton, NJ to take their train into NYC Penn Station. I found a better way of getting to NYC with an hour to hour and a half drive and it costs me about 20 bucks round trip. I take Boltbus www.boltbus.com which is located right across the street from 30th street station, behind the old post office. It has free wi-fi and a bathroom. And its quiet and a nice ride to spend with someone. The seats are roomy, leather and have seat belts as well. I am going to see a broadway show which I got tickets off of broadwaybox.com - and I got the 6th row from the stage for 70 bucks. The seats originally cost $200! You get really good deals on that website and they have practically every show on there! I personally love Central Park- they have the biggest skating rink and its really nice and romantic! There s also ice skating at Rockefeller which is smaller but they have it all decked out in holiday decorations - with the biggest tree you will ever see. But what is even better is you can go up on the rockefeller building and see out into the city and eat. And you can go any time of the day or night! You cant go wrong with Times Square and 5th Ave shopping- but Bryant Park is a nice place to go and escape. Have a nice lunch and get away from the craziness of people. There is a lot to do but I do advise that you do not eat at the Hard Rock and Planet Hollywood-their way over priced and the food is terrible-and that goes for pretty much every restaurant in Times Square. There s lots of cool pizza shops and food places and restaurants along 5th and 6th Ave and they arent that expensive! Dylans candy bar on Park ave is really cool. You will have so much fun in there-theres candy everywhere and they have the best goodies you will ever find!Have a good time!!

Is there a chance i could get into the university of california santa barbara? -

i know that it is a hard school to get into, plus the fact that i live out of state will only bring down my chances.i have a 3.6 gpai am invovled in 3 different community service activitiesi play 2 sportsi am in the spanish clubi have not taken the SATs yet (i am only a junior), but what score do you think they will be looking forwhat could i do to improve my chances??

I have a hard time answering questions from people that block other members from seeing their Q A s It makes me think they are trying to hide something. Is your interest in UCSB because it has curriculum in your chosen major, or because it is reputed to be a party school?

first off, you should ask this question in the higher education area, not the LA area.second, i think you have a small chance of getting in. the average gpa for high school freshman getting into that school is around a 3.8. that was 2 years ago too. now with all of the budget cuts for the UC system, as well as increased applicants, the school will be even more selective than ever before. so if this was 2 years ago i would say you have a decent chance, but today, well i hope you have back ups. good luck.

If you are out of state do not come to a UC or CS school for an undergrad degree. The extreme budget cuts have made it impossible to get all the classes you need each semester. And they just announced a 32% rate increase. An out of state student can go to a private school now like USC for no more money.

well my cousins were accepted... mind you they re pretty bright. It is a rather difficult school to get into but it never hurts to give it a shot. If you re a minority you ve got a better chance than most.

Maybe you should resubmit your question in the university section. This is the travel section.

Best Neighborhood to Live in San Francisco? -

Hey,I m moving within the next few months to SF and will be studying at the USF. I would like to live in the best place to have easy access to USF and to experience the city. Any help would be great!

Best neighborhood for being close to USF and having easy access to the whole city would be Cole Valley (and the bordering Upper Haight, but Cole Valley specificially). The 43 bus will take you right to the campus... or, if you d prefer, it s only about a 10-15 minute walk (depending on what part of Cole Valley/what part of the campus). Likewise, not only would you be close to several bus lines, but right off the N Judah train line, which will get you around to other areas (including downtown) way faster than a bus. Otherwise, the Richmond (particularly Inner Richmond) would be good, especially between Fulton (south) and Geary (north), where you re never more than a block from a bus line taking you right to the campus. Likewise, those same bus lines will take you downtown (and connect to trains). Still, not as versatile and convenient as living off a train line. Also, while the neighborhood is my personal favorite, many people in SF (especially transplants, it seems) find it dull and boring (though I d say they re full of crap, but, still...). Cole Valley is more appealing to most. Also, USF is technically in the Richmond (eastern border), and the Richmond continues immediately west of USF, NOT north/south as someone else said (just for reference on a map). North Panhandle is also nice and convenient to school, but has the same issues as the Richmond in terms of transportation (no train line).

Inner Richmond, Panhandle, Haight-Ashbury, sunset is further but cheaper.

richmond district. usf is more or less just north of richmond, pretty safe, easy access to all parts of the city

Yes, richmond or sunset will be better for you and cheaper.

haha im going to USF too but not until fall 2010!

Why is the city quot;Detroitquot; the city no one wants to live in? -

Homes ( Four Bedrooms ) are going for $15,000 dollars in the city limits. However, people are running up and down the streets shooting each other and stabbing each other every day. Car jackings and robberies happen on many streets. Detroit used to have over 2 and a half million now has 800,000 people. The city is 91% black people. What is going on?

Excuse me.........people are not running up and down the streets shooting people, okay. You just haven t seen the good parts. There are some really cool cities outside of Detroit. Do some research before you ask the question:)

Are there any known freak shows in Virginia, coming to Virginia,or near Virginia? -

Wheres the best place to find cheap large rhinestones and other craft supplies in New York City? -

I was thinking somewhere in the Garment District? I want things that are a little more unique than the typical from large chain craft stores like Michael s. Thank you!

The problem is these items from the Garment district aren t cheap and most of those shops only sell wholesale. Here is a listing of a number of places in the garment district. http://www.empirequilters.net/pdf/resour . MJ trimmings sells retail online and probably still does at their store. I ve been there a few times but that was a long time ago. Most on the list have websites listed so you ll be able to see if they sell to the public before you go.
