Anyone who lives in or has visited Michigans Upper Peninsula? -

Hello :)I m planning on visiting the UP sometime, and I m also thinking about using a UP town as a setting for a story/novelish thing I m beginning to write.I want to know about any particular towns that might be cool to visit (what it s like geographically, population-wise, what the downtown area looks like, etc. Anything you know about it at all to help me get an idea and a vision in my head, incase I decide to use it as a setting as well), what the weather in the UP is like in general, what the people are like, and so forth.Anyone who can help me at all would be greatly appreciated :) Thanks so much!

People who live in Michigan s Upper Peninsula are called Yoopers . They have their own distinct dialect which sounds very much like the Canadian accent. Winter is harsh and the snow comes early, while the summer is milder than downstate. French-Canadians and Finnish are two important ethnic groups who immigrated to the UP. Marquette, Sault Ste. Marie, Escanaba, Iron Mountain, St. Ignace, Houghton are the important cities up there. Porcupine Mountains and Isle Royal are two major eco-tourism locations.

Will I see UFOs on a trip to Nevada? -

Why do San Diego apartments suck? -

If you look just about anywhere in the USA, you can find really nice apartments for good prices, not much more than $1 per square foot. But in San Diego (and Los Angeles too I guess), unless you can pay $2 or $3 per square foot, the apartments suck (noisy, falling apart, crowded, you name it)! What s up?

Real estate is all about location. Things like perfect weather, entertainment, and the beach tend to raise the price. There are affordable apartments inland.San Diego LA apartments are a bargain compared to San Francisco, New York, Boston, or Chicago apartments.

$1 per sq. ft.. I can tell you in New York, you can expect to pay at least $5 per square foot per month.Places where people want to live cost more than places where people don t want to live.

San Fransisco and New York are far worse.
