Is Chicago dangerous at night? -

I m going to be visiting Chicago next week and will be staying downtown near rush street, is it dangerous to walk around at night? is it possible to walk around Chicago till late at night?

around rush street you could be walking around at 3 o clock in the morning without a worry, Chicago, like every other big city in the world, has good parts and it has bad parts. To make a long story short, the west side and the south side are the parts of chicago you need to avoid if you don t know the city too well. Thesouth side is, well the south side (everything south of downtown) its easy to tell if something s on the south side because the adress will say south ex. 6721 S State St., also almost every east-west street on the south side is numbered, so that adress i just gave would be near 67th street, 67th and state street (you don t want to go there). The west side is basically the section of the city that s south of North avenue, west of western and north of the Eisenhower expressway, Logan Square is also a neighborhood to avoid if your new to the city. Also like every big city, you should watch your back and stay near people and lights because you can still get mugged in safe neighborhoods. Also this is the season for pickpockets, but don t get freaked out, Chicago s safe if you don t go in the wrong places at the wrong times.

Not where you are staying, you will be fine, there are alway people out and about in that area. I used to stay late after work go out for drinks, and such, with friends and then head home around 2 by myself..., (my work was right on rush by a couple hotels) so i m assuming thats where you will be, and of course i ll tell you that the bums are everywhere...but really they are harmless..don t worry about it.

It depends where in Chicago. Most U.S. cities can be dangerous if you go into the wrong areas. If you do a search for bad areas in Chicago you ll find numerous blogs telling people which areas are safe and not safe.

that is a great area so it should not be a problem. . I am always out during the night in Chicago and I have never once had an issue. and I am not always in the best area s at those times either.

You would have to walk a long way to go into a dangerous neighborhood from the area you are in. No worries.

Whats the best college town in Florida? -

I grew up in Naples, Florida and absoloutely hated it. The town is filled with rich snobs who are completely ignorant to the real world. 70% of the population there is over 70 and 15% are cops. I live in Orlando now and it s nothing like people think it may be, it s very crowded, dirty, and nothing fun to do. I was thinking about going to school in Miami but I don t know the area well, I ve also considered a private school in St Augustine because I love the atmosphere there, Tallahassee is a huge option; I love FSU but I don t know the town all that well. Any opinions?

My mom went to UF, in Gainesville, a while ago, but we visited it last summer. It s pretty much the epitome of college town. It was fairly early in August that we went, but even then there were students involved in everything. I live in Canada, so it s not really an option for me, but if it was I d be seriously considering it. It looked like there is a huge, tightly knit student community and Gator pride seems to be infectious.

Gainesville. The U is also in Miami is pretty cool too but you have to deal with the other stuff that goes with Miami. USF in Tampa is not a bad school.

Ganesville easily... or Gainsville however u spell it haha

How do i approach a pretty girl in mass transportation in nyc? -

an advice from a girl who takes nyc transportation(Me):ASK HER FOR DIRECTIONS! Even if you know your way around, ask herr anyway!pretend you don t know anything.judging by how she ll help you out (her speech, eye contact, brief/long) that s when you know whether she would be willing to engage into conversation or something further than that. (if she seems like she might be interested, then go for itask awayyy, ask if she s from around here or something. a Tip: If she seems not interested, don t push it, i hateee when guys don t get the point. And don t be too straight forward. Ok Good luck

OK, prepare yourself beforehand for the possibility that you might be ignored. Use something that s going on as a way to start a conversation - a book she s reading, the annoying delay on the train, a weird advertisement that you re both looking at, or something else going on - it s the MTA, there s always something conversation-worthy happening (someone panhandling, a drunk guy playing guitar, etc). So, just strike up conversation, and see where things go! if the conversation goes well, you can try saying something like, I know this might sound kinda lame, but do you give your number to strangers on a train? (hey that rhymes...maybe figure out a way to say it so that it doesn t sound like a rhyme).Good luck!

Well the most important thing is to make eye contact!!!! the rest is up to u and the girl. If u see her making eye contact, then give her a smile, if she likes u, she ll smile back. Now thats a sign to approach her.... introduce urself and start a conversation. good luck!!!!

Don t do it. Odds are she ll think your a stalker or something worse and mace/pepper spray your face.

You weird stalker.

At what east-to-west streets does Wrigleyville start and stop? -

I would say it starts at Addison and maybe ends on Grace???

According to the first site below it is between Irving Park and Diversey- though it is lumping Wrigleyville with Lakeview. The second site I found tends to agree with your boundary though. The City of Chicago site lumps it into Lakeview and does not recognize it as a separate official city neighborhood. Though to all of us it is probably the most famous neighborhood in the city.Hope these sources help!

Can I take the BART from Alameda into Downtown San Francisco? -

BART does not serve Alameda. However, there are several options for travel between the two:1. Take AC Transit Routes O, OW, or W directly2. Take the Alameda/Oakland Ferry directly3. Take the Alameda Harbor Bay Ferry directly4. Take AC Transit Routes 19, 50, 51, 63, or 314 to either the Fruitvale or 12th Street/Oakland City Center BART station and then catch BART

BART doesn t go to/from/though Alameda. Depending on just where in Alameda you re starting from, where in SF you want to go to, and when you re going (and coming back) it may make sense to take a bus to BART and BART to SF, or a bus to SF, or either of two ferries to SF, or a bus to eitherferry and then ferry to SF.You can find all your options at www.511.org.

The easiest way to use BART is to go to their Expanded QuickPlanner. http://www.bart.gov/index.aspxYou can type in the name of the station- or if you just have an address, the QuickPlanner will find the closest station for you to use. It gives you all the information you need like departure/arrival times and fares.Or if you just need to figure out how much it will cost to get to your destination follow this link to the BART Fare Calculator http://www.bart.gov/tickets/calculator/iChildren 4 and under ride free. Everyone else must have a BART ticket. BART fares are based on distance traveled.Want more

Well you could.. but you re going to have to stop at 12th street in Oakland then make a transfer and stop at Powell St if you wanna go to Union Sq.orYou could take a ferry to Oakland directly to SF Ferry, its cheaper I think its about $8 for a roundtrip whereas the bart is about $10 if not more.

no, only Oakland to SF.. take the bus from Alameda to Oakland- take the bart to SF.

What state or city has a lot of diversity? -

I love Southern California cause of all the diversity in nationalities, whats another state/city/region like that?

Most big cities in Texas are like that as well (Dallas, San Antonio area.)

the most diversity you can find would probably be along the West and East Coast. I live in the Bay Area in Northern California, and there is a lot of ethnic diversity. I ve been to the East Coast too, and there is a lot of diversity there.

Who knows where F.A.O. Schwarz in New York is? -

I want to know where the shop is, not necessarily the address but the area. Is it in the upper east side west side etc? thanks :)

767 5th Avenue @ 58th St.In New York, the demarcation between east side and west side is fifth avenue. It s probably a stretch to claim that an address ON Fifth Avenue is one or the other, but this address is on the east side of Fifth. So if you insist, you can say East Side. But it s also south of Central Park, so it s not Upper East Side .The best description is Midtown Manhattan

How often is French used in New Orleans? -

How often is the French language used in New Orleans? What areas/suburbs use more French or more English?

i m 14 and I ve lived in Nola all my life. If you go in the french quarter it is used there A LOT also in the 9th and 7th ward. Uptown around St. Charles you can here some speak french and also in mid city around Bayou St. john.

I am afraid Jessica is not correct, unless she is referring to people occasionally using words that are French.New Orleans is an American city and almost everyone speaks English as their only language. There are no neighborhoods where French is spoken. There are not even neighborhoods where Spanish is spoken widely, though many Hispanic Katrina workers remain in the city. New Orleans East does have a Vietnamese neighborhood.

Which native plants would make a good GROUND COVER in Miami? -

I am looking for a backyard ground cover other than the crab grass (brought here from the North). It has to be appropriate for a humid tropical climate, look naturally attractive both in wet and dry season and without much maintenance, can occasionally be walked on without suffering much damage. Any ideas?

Don t know how much sun the backyard gets or how good the soil is. So here s a puiblication by the University Of Florida about a large variety of native groundcovers in Florida and their tolerances: By the way, in Table 1, watch for the Hardiness Zone. T stands for tropical, aka Miami. http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/eh402

Do you think Virginia Schools are going to be closed tomorrow? After the blizzard? -

by virginia i mean the northeast (fairfax county)

I think it is very, very likely that they will be closed. The roads are still a mess, the school buses have to be shoveled out, the schools need to have their driveways and walkways cleared--a lot to do before the schools can open.UPDATEThe word is out--basically all schools in Northern Virginia are going to be closed on Monday.

They re already cancelling school for tomorrow in the Philly area. So check the TV or radio and see if they haven t closed yours already.
