The Hyatt Regency and Vitale Hotel are about 15 - 20 minutes away from the ballpark on foot. They re both nice four star establishments.http://www.sanfranciscoregency.hyatt.comhttp://www.hotelvitale.com/It is actually a very pleasant walk along the waterfront and under the Bay Bridge to AT T. And if your sons can tolerate a little exercise, that s what I would suggest you do. They renovated the entire sidewalk in 2000 and there are palm trees lining the entire route. Or you can take the N-Judah or T-Third lines from Embarcadero station underneath the Hyatt. The 2nd Street and King station is right in front of the stadium. It is three stops away from Embarcadero. The players always try to blast it into the gap and into the bay. So, the chances of catching a ball are a little better on the right side of home plate than the left. But it doesn t make a huge difference either way.
The CalTrain station is about two blocks from the park, if that s what you mean by taking the train. However, since you say you don t have trains here, I m assuming you mean BART. You can get off at the Embarcadero station and take a nice 15-minute walk to the park, or catch a streetcar. There is indeed parking at AT T; it s just expensive and limited. No telling where a ball s going to go. Since there s mostly right-handed hitters, home runs tend to go to the bleachers. However, there are also foul tips that could go anywhere. If you want to stay at a nearby hotel, you could try the Mosser, the Marriot Marquis, the Palomar, the Westin, St. Regis to be within walking (or bus/streetcar) distance. There s a Hyatt right next to the BART Embarcadero station.
My observation is that many of the foul balls land in the club level. So if you want to spring for the cost of a club level seat, get one around the infield. Otherwise, the field club seats seem to get a lot of foul ball action. Again, that is if you are willing to spring for the cost of those seats.
