Would I like NYC if I moved there? -

Is it worth moving there... I live in Southern California and would like to move to NYC for a bit (I would move back to SoCal eventually) but I would love to experience something different... I want to move somewhere else but I want a ton to do in a small space... is it worth living in? I would of course get all my financial ducks in a row before even moving there... I ve done my research... just want other s opinions...

Many Californians find NYC edgy. If you are a delicate flower of the mountain, please do not come, you will run away because the city is far more abrasive than what you are used to. On the other hand, the culture and intellectual environment may be superior to what you are used to.If you come, try to take in lectures at the New School for Social Research. See the plays and visit our museums. Then decide. I am posting some relevant links for you:http://www.associatedcontent.com/articlehttp://www.associatedcontent.com/articlehttp://www.associatedcontent.com/articlehttp://www.associatedcontent.com/articlehttp://www.associatedcontent.com/article

depends where in nyc you live..but i think you would like it.. because it ll be a good experience.the diversity, so much to do and see, if you can always go back to SC then why not.

Its very nice here other than the weather. Before u come to live here, visit, and then go back to SC to decide.

Stay where you are, we don t like outsiders here in NYC

Living in The Plaza Hotel New York? -

I am 12 years old and i want to move to New York and live in the Plaza when i am 18 or 19(for collage.) I know this maybe impossible to answer but:If i get around 100 bucks a year (christmas, birthdays, etc) and when i am 14 i can get a job that pays like 7 bucks an hour how long will it take me to get 1.6 million dollars? but when i am like 16 i can get a job that pays more. Sorry if anyone thinks this is a stupid question but i am obsessed with this so please no rude comments! thanksss!! P.S- on the plaza website it says the condos start at 1.6 million is that per year? And they are about 500-600 square feet what can i compare that to.

It s not possible for you to get $1.6 million by working minimum wage for 4 years, sorry. It s a nice dream but it s really not feasible.500-600 sq feet isn t really all that big. I think the average hotel room is like 300 sq feet, so just double it. Keep in mind that would have to fit everything (bedroom, kitchen, bathroom, etc).I ve never really worried about getting mugged. Most people don t give it a passing thought. As long as you have street smarts (like, don t keep your wallet out for everyone to see), you ll be fine. I used to live in NY, I still work there, and I love it.

Unfortunately it will take you most of your life to save $1.6 million dollars, even if you were to earn much more than $7 an hour. The only people who can afford to live in a place like the Plaza are those who come from very wealthy families, or have very high paying jobs (like top lawyers and financial managers). As for safety, crime is no longer a major problem in New York City. As long as you become street smart (avoiding deserted areas, not showing large amounts of cash, etc.), it is unlikely you will be mugged.

Bless your heart - what a fantastic obsession!!! The Plaza is my favorite hotel in Manhattan. As far as the Sq ft. goes, 500-600 is very small and you might compare it to a one car garage. You asked if the 1.6 million was per year and I don t know without reading the info myself. We have been going to NYC twice a year for about 20 years and I love it more than anyplace in the world. If you stay in safe areas and at reasonable hours you are quite safe. I have never felt afraid of being there. We live in Atlanta and I get nervous in many of the areas here and I honestly feel safer in NYC. I don t want to be rude however with the money that you have and potentially earn, your expectations just might be unobtainable. Keep in mind that I didn t say impossible. You do have to consider the FACT that living expenses in Manhattan are outrageous. I am going to check out some websites for you and list below. The first couple of sites might help you figure out how long it will take you to save the money, I have also listed sites that contain general info on the Plaza. You may be able to get more info just by browsing these sites. You should probably just go to the Plaza, get a room and an appointment with the hotel management or a broker so they could help you. You can get a reasonably priced room by booking with http://www.expedia.com/ (Try different days and dates to get the best rate)http://reservationcounter.com/hotels/shoP.S. This is not a stupid question, in fact I think it is one of the most interesting ones I have read in a while. Good luck to you and I really do hope that you will be able to achieve this dream of yours.

Im going to bite on this and assume you re not kidding.600 square feet is not a lot. An average kitchen can be 90-100 square feet. A large living room 200 -400 square feet. Not everyone worries about being mugged here. Just the people who are not muggers. Just kidding.Crime happens everywhere and where there are more people there will be more of everything people do including mugging other people.Or helping other people.Best of luck with your dreams, even though it sounds a little bit like you re going to need more money.Actually it sounds like you re going to need a lot more money.Even if you never get to live in the Plaza Hotel, well still be here when you get around to coming to visit us here in New York. We hope you ll love as much as we do.In the mean time, save as much as you can (have some fun too) and study hard you could get a scholarship to a school here and that would certainly help you on your way.Till then, Greetings from your pal,The Town So Nice They Named it Twice NEW YORK,NEW YORK

What part of nyc is most affordable for a college student? -

m in high school right now but i want to go to new york university (nyu) when i graduate. where are some good apartments for cheap but in a pretty good neighborhood. i have visited before and i love it.i would like apartments that are reasonable, affordable, and in a more safe environment

Don t get one around NYU cause they are very expensive.Other boroughs like Bronx Brooklyn are good cheap, depending on the area.I suggest you use Craigslist.com and click New York City and search for apartments there. They have a bunch of cheap ones.

Well, you can forget the Borough of Manhattan, which is expensive. You might want to looking in the the outer boroughs, such as Queens and Brooklyn, which will be cheaper.Good luck

AHHH WTF just go move to Harlem and mess it up for all the longtime residents.

Is Bodega Bay (THE BIRDS film set) north of San Fransisco worth a visit this Christmas.? -

It is kinda interesting to visit the Tides restaurant (where she docks her little rowboat) and the nearby Potter school (where the kids get attacked by seagulls). There are a few other hidden gems to check out if you decide to head out-visit the tiny postage stamp of a beach at the very end of West Side Rd. Dine at one of the charming little places in Bodega Bay. Make a few stops on the way at Tomales Bay and Inverness. I think it s worth it if you ve never been. The only thing to consider is the weather- I usually go during the Summer months. I can imagine how bad it might be during the dead of Winter...Good luck, and I hope you enjoy your visit North.

I go there often for R R. Some of the movie was filmed in the town of Bodega and other parts were filmed in Bodega Bay. One of the restaurants in the movie, The Tides is still there and the outside has not change too much. If you go to the visitors center in Bodega Bay(right off highway 1), they will give you a ton of info on where to go to see many of the scenes that were filmed. All in all, both towns are very quaint and charming and a great place to go for a weekend.

I drove up the California coast in Jan 08 and, being a huge fan of the film, made a stop in Bodega and Bodega Bay. There s not much to see there, quite frankly. But if you continue up the coast, the landscape becomes very dramatic. It is a gorgeous part of the world and I am considering going back there for a bit this summer.

I have a colleague at work who referred to Bodega Bay as his most favorite place in the world.I went there. Nice small town on the coast. We had lunch in what I think was the only restaurant that served lunch - and it wasn t memorable. Frankly, I wasn t impressed.

The school house is still there and they have turned it into a gift shop! I was so excited to go in! I still have pictures.

It does not look like the set for the movie.

If it s just to see the film location, sure. There s not much there.
