Which city is better minneapolis vs saint paul ? and why ? -

I guess it depends on what you are looking for - both cities have a lot to offer. On the whole Mpls has more nightlife options but what is in St. Paul is decent too. Both have Colleges and University branchs downtown. Both have very nice rather close in neighborhoods. Minneapolis more downtown retail.Better in what way would yield a more specific answer.

Which hotel in Las Vegas should I choose ? Wynn La Vegas, Encore at Wynn La Vegas, and the Signature at MGM? -

I m planing a surprise Christmas trip to Las Vegas. This is going to be my first adventure in Vegas. After a lot of researches on hotels, I have narrowed down to Wynn La Vegas, Encore at Wynn La Vegas, and the Signature at MGM. Which one should I go with ? Please give me some suggestions, Thanks.

I usually don t bother to answer a question with so many answers already...but I think you could use a little more info than you ve gotten.Signature, fine property...some people I know really like the rooms/decor/layout etc there...downsides are...a long-long-long walk to get to anywhere else...and typically through unattractive areas. If you want to be away from casinos, crowds, and the strip scene ...and don t mind a long-long-long walk to get there when you do want to see anything else then Signature is a fine choice.Wynn or Encore...some owner...basically same property...similar decor and crowds. You could stay at either property and not experience anything significantly different. They have some of the best rooms, shows and restaurants in town and are close enough to the other properties in town that if you bring VERY comfortable walking shoes you can take a sightseeing trek down the strip. I am certain that you picked these properties because they are among the classiest/nicest properties in town. (Though you left out Bellagio, also built by the same owner as Wynn Encore before getting sold/bought out. Also Bellagio along with the other Wynn properties , notoriously do an amazing job of decorating the property with seasonal adornments! Even if you stay at Wynn/Encore, take a trip to Bellagio front lobby area to see the blown glass ceiling and the seasonal flowers, etc display...you ll be glad you did!!!)FYI...you WILL see a large number of asian visitors here during Christmas time as most Americans visit Vegas during Christmas but more Chinese, etc DO VISIT us...many shows will be on vacation (dark) or replaced with asian performers (mostly Chinese! Even Jackie Chan has headlined during that time!)If you d like help with ideas, etc beyond this, feel free to contact me by clicking on my profile pic and then email mjm and I d be happy to help you out.

The Wynn hotels in Vegas are quite beautiful. However, I would opt for the Signature at MGM.Why? The simple reason is location. The monorail ends right at the MGM. The Signature is attached to the main MGM hotel. It is a short, quick, air conditioned walk to the monorail from the Signature. The MGM complex is an attractive one, though I find it a bit dark and dirty at times to be honest. However, there is a lot of shops and restaurants there and the MGM has world class entertainments. A ton of headliners frequent the place. The monorail shuttle provided by Wynn was shutdown. The listed monorail stop for the Wynn is Harrahs. It may not be a terrible walk if you are in your 20 s and are in shape, but if you are a middle aged desk jockey like me or if you plan on having older relatives there, it can be a hot, long walk. However, if you are not planning to leave the hotel at all, then I would go with Wynn. I love the property. IMHO, it just has bad access to the public transportation system (mainly the monorail).

It totally depends on what you re looking for, both hotels offer very nice accommodations, however Wynn and Encore will give you more of a 5-star elegant feel, where MGM will have a slightly more relaxing feel. I would recommend Wynn or Encore if you re a little older, want to get away from the Vegas Party vibe and just relax in luxury, where MGM may tend to be a bit more loud and exciting. If you re young and looking to have a good time, MGM will make you feel more at home.Hope this helps, good luck and have fun!

Both Encore Wynn are great resorts and you can t go wrong with either of them. I would prefer them both over the Signature. You can get really good codes on the smartervegas.com newsletter. Here are some links to some promo pages, you should also check Vdara and Aria which are opening in December and have nice promotions:Aria Promotions: http://www.smartervegas.com/hotels/aria_Encore Promotions: http://www.smartervegas.com/hotels/encorVdara Promotions: http://www.smartervegas.com/hotels/vdaraWynn Promotions: http://www.smartervegas.com/hotels/wynn/

Encore is the best choice as there are not as many children and it is the newest hotel of the three. The new hotels in the City Center project are now accepting reservations too. Aria and the non-casino, all suite Vdara will be open over Christmas. Vdara is as low as $129 night.

Wynn and Encore are clones and right next to each other, so it doesn t matter. The MGM (I go there three times a day for work) has been having a major problem with homeless and beggars hanging around near the West Wing Bar. They go through the trash, ask for money and just walk about aimlessly. I wouldn t stay at MGM til they remedy that situation. While they don t seem violent, they re obviously mental cases.

Encore is the newest and probably has the best rooms. The Signature is actually on the backside of the the MGM Grand so it is a good walk each time just to get to the strip. Another option would be to check out Bellagio for similar class but has a great location.

Actually I prefer the Excalibur or NY NY. The reason is it is a bit cheaper, and to be honest when I go to Vegas I only stay there to sleep and start my day off at 4am with a good bloody mary at the blackjack table. The other 16 or so hours I go to other casinos.

Encore is newer but the rooms at the Wynn are still better. Both hotels are currently offering discount rates and a $50 resort credit when you book. Here is more info.http://www.lasvegas-how-to.com/las-vegas

If your research hasn t included TripAdvisor.com, you should check it out, both for the destination guide and for the comments from past guests on the hotels and resorts.

I think Wynn is better hotel than Encore and MGM but I would try something closer to the middle of the strip. In Vegas is all about location! On my next visit I am planing to stay at Caesars Palace.Good Luck!

I would choose Encore... I stayed there in June, here s a review I wrote with some photos I shot....http://hubpages.com/hub/Encore-Las-Vegas

Question about carmel by the sea? -

convince me why I should go to carmel by the sea for my holiday trip instead of san francisco....=)

I would do both.Carmel is a quaint, artsy town about two hours south of San Francisco. It s a nice place to visit, and there are lots of things to do in the area. My wife and I visit our son in the Bay Area about once a year, and after seeing him for a few days, we then go either to Napa Valley or Carmel for a few days. But regardless of which direction we go, we also always have at least one day in San Francisco.

Yeah, you can do both! It would only take a couple hours to drive from San Francisco to Carmel.Carmel has fantastic dining and shopping. If you golf, they have some good golf courses nearby, including of course the courses at Pebble Beach. If you bring a dog, Carmel is VERY dog-friendly - many stores will let you bring your dog inside, and some restaurants have outdoor seating for people with dogs, and a menu for dogs. Carmel would be a decent home base for exploring other places in the area - Monterey Bay Aquarium, driving down to Big Sur, visiting Santa Cruz, etc. Compared to San Francisco, Carmel is slower paced, more relaxed, less crowded, and just about as cold.

Carmel by the Sea is a quaint and scenic village 5-10 miles south of Monterey. Just as pricey as SF, without the traffic or the City like ambiance. Good food, quiet nights, close to Big Sur and Ventena wilderness, if you like outdoors. Pebble beach, and Clint Eastwood roaming around. I personally like the variety of San Francisco, but Im biased because I lived near Carmel for 25yrs.

Target? ROFL... There is Venice Beach.. Santa Monica Pier... Griffith Observatory... Holly Walk Of Fame... what kinda things you looking for?

I second Sunshine. Target??? WTF?Re-read the tour guide info book and pick anything else that is not a big-box store. Knotts Berry is nice. Universal is fun. Go for places like that that, but not target. How about Wal-Mart and Sears?? How about a fun day at K-Mart?That s just a little sarcasm leaking out folks.
