HiI am going to chicago with my family on December 29-31 2009. What Should I Do During Those Days. I Have 2 Kids. 13 and 6. I Will be staying in the O hare. How should i get downtown. Whats The Holiday trolley? What should i expect the weather to be? Anything! Thanks
To get from O Hare to downtown take the blue line that has a stop under the airport, all of the stops starting at clark/lake is downtown. Chicago has tons of museums and parks (however you may not want to be walking outside because it ll be pretty cold those days), museums include: The Art Institute and the modern wing, The Museum of Contemporary Art, The Field Museum, The Shedd Aquarium, The Planetarium, The Chicago History Museum, The Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum, The Museum of Science and Industry, and much more. You can also go shopping on the magnificent mile and shop at the water tower place and lots of other big malls! You can take a stroll on the riverwalk, or go shopping at department stores and block 37 on state street. And of course, you can see a spectacular view of the city in the sears tower (don t call it willis!), they recently added the ledge where you stand in a glass box that s sticking out of the building and you can look straight down (it s kinda scary!), or for cheaper you can see a view of the city from the John Hancock Center, you can go up to the restaurant or the observatory deck (i heard in the women s bathroom of the restaurant there s a window! sadly nothing like that is in the men s bathroom). Check out the Chicago cuisine, head over to any portillo s chain for a Chicago dog or Italian beef (and more) or head to the source, vienna beef factory for a dog, there are lots of hot dog joints in the city (my favorite is Flub A Dub Chub s in lincoln park), or go to Taylor Street for Italian Beef at Al s and check out the other Italian restaurants, and you can t forget to check out a real deep dish pizza (my favorite is Giordano s but there s also Lou Malnati s and Pizzeria Uno s)As for the Holiday trolley, I have no clue, I think The Lincoln Park Zoo has some Christmas decoration. The weather is gonna be coooold real cold, so wear layers and stuff, you know winter clothes. Check weather.com or the local news for forecasts, and have fun in the best city in the world!
Navy Pier has Holiday Exhibits up this time of year, so that s a good place to start. Other good family attractions are the Lincoln Park Zoo, Shedd Aquarium, Willis Tower, Museum of Science and Industry, Field Musuem, Mellenium Park, and shop at Water Tower Place or on Michigan Avenue. The weather will probably be cold, possibly snowy. Dress for cold weather (daytime temps will most likely be in the teens or twenties) with winter coat, gloves, hat, and scarf. If it s windy, there will be a wind chill and it will feel colder. As for getting to downtown, some hotels offer free shuttle service to the train station. Otherwise, I d rent a car.
1. You get to downtown by the train. CTA. The public transport here is great. its about $2.00 per person.2. The first link is for fun places and events in Chicago for kids.3.
