I would be visiting Los Angeles this December and i would to ask 1. What time is it recommended to return to my hotel?2. Is the tourist area at Hollywood Boulevard safe espacially at night? Im staying behind the Grauman s Chinese Theatre i wonder if it s safe.3. Are there still any shopping in the tourist areas nearby the Chinese Theatre at night? Are there still lots of tourists/locals around there at night?4. Is there any shuttle bus that i can book to take me to Disneyland and back to my hotel (Hollywood Orchid Suites)? I don t wanna go myself as it gets creepy walking back to my hotel from the train station at night and of course i would be back very late after visiting the theme park.5. Is the weather during the December period very cold?6. What to do in Downtown Los Angeles?7. Are the homeless people harmless? I ve heard incidents where people get mugged by them. Please help me, best answer gets 10 points.
1. What time is it recommended to return to my hotel?Whenever you re tired. The hotels in your area are pretty safe, due to a lot of police presence.2. Is the tourist area at Hollywood Boulevard safe espacially at night? Im staying behind the Grauman s Chinese Theatre i wonder if it s safe.Yes, those are pretty safe. Remember that in ANY city, you re never 100% safe. The usual precautions must be taken, such as being aware of your surroundings. That being said, I would stay with my family at one of those hotels behind the H H complex.3. Are there still any shopping in the tourist areas nearby the Chinese Theatre at night? Are there still lots of tourists/locals around there at night? After about 10, a lot of tourists have gone back to their hotels, and it starts to get a little quieter. But there s quite a bit of activity at night.4. Is there any shuttle bus that i can book to take me to Disneyland and back to my hotel (Hollywood Orchid Suites)? I don t wanna go myself as it gets creepy walking back to my hotel from the train station at night and of course i would be back very late after visiting the theme park. This is a very tricky question. There s no shuttle bus that runs from Hollywood to Disneyland. There are a number of tour companies that do Disneyland tours (Starline Tours, LA City Tours) that do an all day run, but I don t know when they return in December. Check out their web sites at starlinetours.com and lacitytours.com.5. Is the weather during the December period very cold?To natives, it s cold. Most Canadians run naked around LA. OK, just kidding, but it s relatively warm here. Highs are in the 60 s, and sometimes 70 s. There s a chance of rain. Night temps get into the 40 s and sometimes the upper 30 s. But to be honest, any town where you can survive the winter in a light jacket doesn t qualify as very cold.6. What to do in Downtown Los Angeles? There isn t a lot to do downtown. You have Staples Center, the Nokia Theater, Olvera Street, and a couple museums downtown. Except for the area around Staples, downtown is inhabited mostly by the zombie-like homeless at night.7. Are the homeless people harmless? I ve heard incidents where people get mugged by them. The homeless are mostly harmless. Creepy, but mostly harmless. You might get asked for some money, but the chances of getting mugged are miniscule indeed. You stand a better chance of getting in a traffic accident in your car than getting mugged by a homeless person. If you ve heard of a real incident (not just rumors), that is the exception that proves the rule.
they come in your hotels sometimes and take everything from you while robbing you with a pencil...You are a dumb *** if you are scared of homeless people :-)
Hollywood isnt anything AT ALL like you see on TV or in the movies. It was back in the early days of the motion picture industry. Now its a conglomerate of oddities, pimps/ho s,, druggies.I suggest you do your sightseeing in the daytime, and be back before dark. UNLESS youre with other people..esp a guy.Actually the Chinese theater is about the only touristy like thing there. Plus stores that sell a lot of Hollywood stuff. Sidewalk with stars names. There are some clubs on Sunset Blvd. ( my preferred street in Hollywood) Weather in CA is beautiful in December. You wont need anything more than a light jacket or hoodie. I never had anything more the 35 yrs I lived there. Temp will be about 60-75 days.Downtown LA. Banks- Offices etc . Not much to do or see really. Dont walk around down there. Day or night. Homeless people - Well they are homeless and short of cash. Just keep to yourself. Most are just people out of work. You didnt mention gangs but like I said. Keep to yourself. Dont stare or get into people s spaces Youre just visiting. Ask at your hotel about Disneyland. Its about 40 miles from where you will be. There are shuttles from Hollywood hotels. I just looked it up for someone on Y!A, last week. http://www.gotobus.com/cs/c1379/shuttlesI suggest renting a car, because in LA you need one, and your trip wont be nearly as fun without one.You could drive from Hollywood down Sunset. Travel around Beverly Hills ( right on the way) . Keep going down Sunset til you hit the ocean. Very nice drive. Driving thru the canyons from the coast highway is nice too. The real Hollywood experience is going to the Universal Studios Tour. You d love this. There s also City Walk, the Amphitheater, and the Theme Park. But the tour shows you all the movie making techniques, famous buildings/ houses from real movies. Plus a lot of fun things. You wont be that far. Ask your hotel if they can help you. They will be used to it, Im sure.http://www.mapquest.com/maps?1c=HollywooLA Metro is about 80 square miles big. When I go, I love driving up the coast from Santa Monica to Zuma Beach. Its fun to walk along the boardwalk starting at Santa Monica Beach ( where there is an amusement park ) to Venice Beach.. on Saturday especially. Or Sunday. A real people watching extravaganza. http://www.ocf.berkeley.edu/~changsl/la%This site should be very helpful to you. http://www.experiencela.com/Most of all, dont believe anyone who says they can get you into the movies. Its a con. It doesnt work like that. Have a great time !
I m going to try to be as simple as possible.1. When you finished your fun evening.2. Yes. Just your common sense.3. Many shopping areas are usually closed at night but there are still people walking around.4. No.5. If you are not from a warm climate, then it won t be a problem for you. However, if you are a Texas or Florida native, then yes it ll be cold.6. http://www.downtownla.com/index.asp7. They are harmless but I would still not want to be around them.!!HAVE FUN AND GOD BLESS!!
