There are a few unusual places in San Francisco. I found these places because I have relatives that live in San Francisco and they knew about them and my cousins took me to them. One of them is Paxton Gate, which is a specialty store. It has exotic plants, skull bones, plenty of taxidermied animals on display, gems and minerals, and fossils. Here is a website to the store for more information:http://www.paxtongate.comI ll call this one a unique place. It s called BrainWash, a place where you can wash your clothes and have a drink. They serve food, too. The sandwiches are good. It s located on Folsom Street. At Pier 45, you ll find Musee Mechanique, which has an extenstive arcade and musical instrument collection. There are slot machines, as well. Be sure to take quarters with you because you ll have to put them in the machines to hear and watch them. This place is plenty of fun. Another unusual place is Botanica Yoruba. It s located on Valencia Street. They do psychic readings here and have plenty of incense, herbs, oils, and candles for sale. Have fun if you explore any of these places!
North Beach- home of the Beat Generation, San Francisco s Little Italy and the city s strip club mecca.Established during the Barbary Coast days of the Gold Rush (1848-1858), North Beach actually was a beach. Originally, the city s northeast shoreline extended only to what is today Taylor and Francisco streets. It was filled with soil and landfill after the 1906 earthquake and fires. Which oddly enough, didn t destroy much of Little Italy; according to legend, some enterprising residents cracked open the barrels of red wine in their cellars and saved their houses from the fires by draping them with wine-soaked blankets.Today North Beach is home of some of the best food, entertainment, culture, and also the first espresso house to serve an Italian espresso in America, Caffe Trieste.Coit Tower was built atop Telegraph Hill in San Francisco s Pioneer Park, in 1933 at the bequest of Lillie Hitchcock Coit to beautify the City of San Francisco. Lillie bequeathed one-third of her estate to the City of San Francisco to be expended in an appropriate manner for the purpose of adding to the beauty of the city which I have always loved. The tower offers fantastic views of San Francisco including the Golden Gate Bridge, the San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park ( Aquatic Park ), Alcatraz, Pier 39, Angel Island, Treasure Island, the Bay Bridge, Russian Hill, the Financial District, Lombard Street, and Nob Hill.Coit Tower Hours / Admission Prices:To go upstairs and to see locally made artists muralsHours: 10am - 5pm Daily$4.50 Adults$3.50 Seniors 65+$2.00 Children 6-12Children under 6 are freeWant more visit
http://www.yelp.com/biz/sam-wo-restauranA very skinny restaurant in a tiny skinny building that has dining on the floors above. You enter through the kitchen and walk upstairs to the dining area. Try it.We haven t gone there in years although I used to go there for lunch when we were in Chinatown.I m sad to hear that the funny lady waitress is no longer there. I remember eating at Sam Wo in Chinatown, ordering tomato chow mein panfried and as she layed the plate on the table, she told me (English with a Chinese accent) that this is my spaghetti. A Caucasian man sat down at a small very old table across from us and proceeded to pull the table closer to him and she yelled at him and asked him if he didn t notice that the table is very old and not sturdy. (The legs were was wired together if I recall correctly -- fixed by somebody who was not a carpenter.) By pulling the table up to him, the customer would break the table, she said. The man did not react. I guess he was accustomed to her rants. Another couple started to go up to another level and she yelled at them. We couldn t stop laughing the whole time we were there.
