Nob Hill
Someone mentioned S.E. Portland but the culture and boutique shops are in the close in S.E. neighhborhoods like Sellwood and Belmont. The larger S.E. and N.E. are poorer and suburban and the East side has more crime than the S.W. Delaware is probably cheaper than Portland. I don t recommend North Portland. Even with the many homes in forecosure the rentals in Portland have not dropped. The $1000 won t get you a house in S.W. I think most of Portland is geared for families. Do you want a more urban setting, suburban or country? You can have any of those in driving distance from downtown Portland. You didn t mention where your jobs are. Portland is an environmentally aware and politically progressive town.
Portland is dog friendly all around. Your best bet will be the Southeast, we have lived here for 2 an half years. Here is a few sites to get an overall look at Portland. Your going to love Portland I have lived many places and this is the first place I have found to call home in a really long time.house/apartment huntingwww.craigslist.comhttp://www.portland.com/http://www.lifeinportland.com/
You won t be able to get a house for that price. But you will be able to find a nice apartment. I live in Oregon City, and we are about 13 miles south of Portland. I think it is ideal for a young family like mine in its historic district. Also look into the Mississippi District, Clinton and Alameda Neighborhoods. There are better neighborhoods, but for the price, you will want to look at this areas,
Depends, of course on money. Northwest hills are nice, but snooty. Southeast is way too dangerous, so is North Portland and Gresham. Stick to Sherwood, Tualatin and Clackamas. I live in Brush Prairie and would not trade it for the world
