The Amtrack Station in San Francisco is in the rear of the building next door (south side) of the Ferry Building located on The Embarcadero. (another clue, Ferry Building is at the East End of Market St.)From SFO, get off the BART at the BART EMBARCADERO STATION, the last San Francisco stop (before train enters the tunnel under the bay to Oakland). Exit the BART underground station and go up to street level (you will be walking toward Beale or Main Streets up on Market St). Walk east on Market Street toward the Ferry Building. Pop into a store or hotel or find a good person on the street, ask person to point out which direction to the Ferry Building to make sure you are walking in the right direction. You can purchase a train ticket for SF to Sacramento that includes a shuttle bus ride from the SF Amtrack station to Emeryville station.Go to the Amtrack ticket office and waiting room. We bought our train tickets there, checked our luggage, sat in the waiting room and then waited out on the curb when the station agent told us the shuttle for Emeryville is arriving. That s what I would do. There is a phone number for Amtrack where perhaps you can get correct up to the date information.http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8 oehttp://www.amtrak.com/servlet/ContentSerIf you have a few minutes to kill, the Ferry Building next door has places to eat nice shops. It s beautiful inside.
There aren t any direct trains from San Francisco to Sacramento. You can board a train to Sacramento at Emeryville Amtrak Station. You would basically take the transit system from SFO to Emeryville which is about 20 miles away.http://www.amtrak.comThe Amtrak train from Emeryville goes to Sacramento hourly.
http://www.amtrak.com/servlet/ContentSer^ You book your ticket and go where they say to. There aren t exactly many options/directions when going by train... it runs along a fixed track (obviously... I mean, it s a train!), so all you have to do is get to a station (Ferry Building would probably be easiest for you - it s a bus station that will connect you to a train in Emeryville) and just go along for the ride from there.
Here s your weblink to their rail system. It s very clean and a slight similarity to your Underground.Good Luck and Enjoy your stay in the area.http://www.bart.gov/stations/index.aspxThis is your safe and best bet. Be smart and use common sense.
from sfo take Bart over to Oakland, take amtrack to Sacamento.
