Must See amp; things to do @ Washington DC and area, planning a vacation? -

My boyfriend and I are planning on going to Washington DC for a vacaction this summer. My boyfriend is a Veteran who is still in the National Guard and served as a Medic over in Iraq for a year in 2006. He LOVES history and has never been to DC for a sight-seeing vacation! My dad and I went there a few years ago and I remember Arlington was awesome. We also went to the Marine Sunset Parade at the Iwo Jima Memorial, which was great and something I definitely want to make sure we do while we are there. My dad and I also went to George Washington s home and took a tour of that, which was outside DC a little ways. I ve been to DC twice and it is definitely a place where everytime you go back there is more and more to see. Both times I have gone, there was no planning involved, just sight-seeing on a whim. I d like to have a little planning done this time and would like some suggestions for Must See places/things to do while we are there. Thanks!

There are TONS of places to go and see. Do you have a few days? The stuff you listed would be good...especially Arlington and if you get to go to see the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers.Since your boyfriend likes history I would recommend the new WWII memorial (it was built I believe in 2004). Its a really nice memorial. There are lots of other memorials too (Vietnam, Korean War, etc).I would also recommend the Smithsonians. They recently renovated and re-did the National Museum of American History. Its HUGE. They have a whole section devoted to American Wars and then other sections as well related to other aspects. Its pretty nice. Of course there a lot of other Smithsonians too, like the Holocaust Museum, Air and Space, Natural History Museum. Here is their website with a listing: http://www.si.edu/Museums/ and here is the link directly to the American History Museum: http://www.si.edu/Museums/Another thing, I m not sure what your interest level is but in Chinatown they have a Spy Museum which is supposed to be pretty cool. I haven t had a chance to go yet, but it seems interesting. Its within walking distance from the Gallery Place/Chinatown metro station Here is the link: http://spymuseum.org/Since you ve been to DC before I m sure you know this but driving and parking can be tricky. Metro is usually the best way to go, and most sites/museums are accessible via the Smithsonian metro station or Federal Triangle. I believe you can get to Arlington Cemetary via metro as well although last time I went I was in 8th grade so I don t really remember.Good luck and have fun! Enjoy your trip!

Smithsonians. They re free.

If he likes history the Smithsonians are a great choice. Mt. Vernon (Washington s home) was very nice and I think he d like that too. In the summer if he s a sports fan they have baseball (Nationals) and if it s early in the summer (no later than June) they may have hockey and/or basketball. You ll have to check in the spring to see if those teams make the playoffs and are still playing when you get there. Pretty much any major building you go to he ll like. Capitol tour, Supreme Court, etc. Hard to go wrong with a history fan in DC.

Where is the cheapest parking garage near Palace Hotel in Union Square, San Francisco? They will charge $52!? -

I booked at the hotel called Palace Hotel near Union Square, San Francisco without knowing that they will charge $52 per night for parking a car at the hotel. That is crazy, so I am looking for help!Does anyone know a good place to park a car???

Parking at any downtown hotel is expensive which is why I usually recommend that visitors not bring a car if possible. Keep in mind that the the hotel will usually offer in out privileges so depending on how long you park at any destination you may end up paying at least as much as you would pay at your hotel. There are a couple of public parking garages in the south of market area that will run you between $25-35 for 24 hours The two that are closest to the Palace hotel are on third between Howard and Folsom across from Moscone Center or at 5th and Mission. You may also be able to find over night parking for $15 at some of the lots south of market.

It is a few blocks to walk but parking at the 5th MIssion garage is about $15 a day.

How much does a pack of cigarettes cost in New York? -

I m doing a project on smoking right now and I need to know how much a pack of cigarettes cost in New York. I don t want to go out to a deli and ask for cigarettes because I m only 15.

I was watching a comedian on Comedy Central today who brought up this subject. I don t know when his stand-up was recorded, but he said a pack of cigarettes was up to $9.00 in NY. Then he went into a spiel about how that won t encourage people to stop smoking, but rather to re-budget.Good luck with your project. You could call a few places. I m sure the cost will vary from place to place, but it will give you an idea of an average.

Anywhere between $5 and $10 a pack, enough to make someone quit. My advice to you is don t pick up the habit.Good luck

It s $10 to $12 bucks a pack.

What are some cool places to take pictures in fort worth, texas? -

Fort Worth Water Garden in Down Town, Fort Worth Botanical Gardens, Fort Worth Stock yards, ZOO,

Why dont you go on http://www.flickr.com or http://www.webshots.com -- Search Fort Worth, and see the variety of photos/places that people have found interesting ( enough to take a picture, anyway)I could give you detail ideas too. I think the photos that I took there were mostly of things around the stockyards. Billy Bob sNot real scenic, just vacation photos.I think the Japanese Gardens was there , too

It s not in Fort Worth, but I really like the Sam Houston Monument.
