How is life in Eugene, Oregon??? Crime, People? -

I just watched videos on Lane Community College, and I was shocked to see so many thugs promoting videos at lane. Then I see a bunch of videos of riots in Eugene. I see tons of Hippies. I see tons of disgruntled youth who treat others with disrespect I.E: Poser Anarchists verbally assualting a news reporter. This is not the Eugene, Oregon that was glamourized to me by friends. People said it was cool and laid back. Looks like a safe haven for punks. People who live there, please give me a clear answer, as youtube is not showing me alot of good things...Thanks...

There actually is very little crime. I ve lived there for 24 years and it s a safe place. Just don t cut down trees or mutilate them. People there hate it when others do that. Also, Eugene cannot exist as a glamourized place unless the people who move there contribute to the essence of what makes the city great. Don t move there just to roll around in it s liberality and progressivism, yet not contribute to it by not being active in the community, not exclusively supporting local businesses, cutting down trees, and living in a townhouse or new home that was built on a freshly-cut down forest.

Yes there is People, and yes since there are people there is also crime, just about any kind of people and just about any kind of crime. Just the way it works, get rid of the people and you will get rid of the crime.

There may not be a ton of crime, but you saw right, it is a safe-haven for run-aways, transients, homeless, beggars, etc. It is trash. I would not live there again for anything nor suggest it to anyone! We lived there for 5 months, found it to be a dump. It is hard to get a job there, and clearly I do not understand what the draw to the area is. There is a ton of hippies that try to make their trashy way a fun thing by calling themselves eccentric. The riots (on history I found) are more of a tree sitting thing of the past. I couldn t care either way. That does not really seem to be the thing going on anymore, but overall what is of concern is that they are so in open arms to people who make a life of being homeless corner beggars who would not want an actual job if it was offered to them. There are a lot better places to live, trust me. Don t make the mistake that we did.The music scene is not that great if you are interested, and yes there are a lot of poser people everywhere. The city smells of piss from homeless people shaking it wherever they can and the river is totally polluted. Homeless people bath in it too! I would not canoe or step foot in it for nothing! They try to blame it on Portland, but they are a huge contributor, so much for their conservation . It is really not that beautiful of a place. Also, I don t know what Dig is going on about up above, ha! but the people in that town couldn t give two F (Ks about whether or not you re a contributor . They will never care to get to know you, let alone, see if you are being active, in what, a town of over 100,000. It s a s-hithole. Don t listen to your friends. Need anymore advice? Let me know.

This is coming from a fourteen year old who lived in Eugene for five years (2002 - 2007).I LOVED Eugene. I miss it too. I m not sure if it s changed much but I went to Eugene recently (This summer) and it hadn t changed much. Same old. I guess it may depends on what area s you live in. I lived down in SE (U of O area) and there were a lot of good people. Yeah, there are druggies, hippies, homeless, etc. But it s not like the whole city is filled with them.Kids / Youth will be youth. There are horrible kids over here in Hawaii too. It is cool and laid back, from what I experienced anyway and my family can agree with me. I guess it depends on who you decide to socialize with and where you live. (I live in an apartment, btw). Like anywhere, it varies (again). You ll have to experience it for yourself to think what you want about it. It s like watching someone talk about racism towards white s in Hawaii and think that all locals are like that. That s bull. You need to experience and be a good person. See what kind of responses you get and if you like the town than tell yourself if you like it or not or if you think it s horrible or not.

What are some tips for New Years Eve in Times Square? -

Coming from the big city of CLINTON, INDIANA!!!! (sarcasm, over). Never even been to New York City, let alone NYC on NYE. Three of us trekking over, aged 20, 20, 18. We know literally, nothing, about how this thing works. Also, we were wondering how we can find out ahead of time who might be performing there. You always see sweet people like Black Eyed Peas, Taylor Swift, etc, performing from the TV show, just wondering if we could find a way to maybe catch their performance, if we could. Would be a neat way to see some big stars that forget Indiana is a state when it comes to their tours, even if it s for a song or two. Thanks! HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

If you want to get a good spot, you ll have to get there before noon (seriously). As the previous poster stated, if you leave your pen you won t be allowed back in, even if you just need to use the bathroom. Apparently, some people wear adult diapers in order to solve this problem. You might also want to look into buying hand and feet warmers, since it can get super cold out there (last year it was about 18 degrees for the low, and only 35 for the high). There are no backpacks allowed. As for performers, you ll probably just have to google it.

Dress warm and get there early, because the area can get filled fast. Also, consider staying there a long time, because if you leave your designated area for anything, you ll be out of luck.Good luck

Is Houston a gay friendly city? -

Wondering if Houston as a whole is accepting of gay people? Are the suburbs of Houston accepting? Does Houston have a good crime rate and where are the best places/side of Houston to live? Also what are the areas to avoid there becasuse of crime rates? Thanks

Houston is actually a very gay friendly city, with a lot of recreational spaces open to the community, especially in the Montrose area and other areas near the center. As most suburbs in any major city, they are mostly quiet and impersonal, and you can definitely keep to yourself if that s what you choose to do. However, if you want more of a sense of community, live in Montrose, which is the historically gay neighborhood turned gentrified hip area of Houston. There is also a lot of fun things to do around the Heights, Midtown, Museum district, Rice U, Upper Kirby, River Oaks, Downtown, EaDo (East of downtown), and Eastwood. Lots of historical, cute neighborhoods and sporadic pockets of culture. As in any city, the center is more accepting of alternative lifestyles. I personally prefer the center to the suburbs (of course!). Houston is very friendly and welcoming to all sorts of people, and I love that!Edit: I forgot to mention that we just elected Annise Parker to our mayoral office, who is the second openly gay mayor of a large city in the US. That should let you know a little bit of how accepting this wonderful city is! Good luck!

I can tell you it s probably NOT going to be accepting. Texas as a whole is a VERY conservative state and they really don t take homosexuality well. My college friend is gay and they moved from Kashmere Gardens in Houston (5 months ago) back to New Mexico. If you are going to move to Texas (Houston area), don t live close to the city and keep a low profile. As far as Crime goes-Crime varies. Property crime is much higher than violent crime but their local crime rate is higher than National averages.Hope that helps! Be safe!

For the most part. There are a lot of openly gay people in River Oaks where I used to live next to Montrose which has a lot of gay lesbian bars. It s not like San Francisco but you won t be shot or hung by rednecks like in some places. Avoid the southwest side (I.E. Sharpstown area), Southeast side by the Hobby Airport, Anything ending in ward, also Acres Homes, Spring Branch anywhere off Airline, Crosstimbers, Yale, Jensen, Harwin, or Fondren. Best but sometimes expensive areas are Sugarland, Clear Lake, Memorial, Kingwood, Woodlands, Tanglewood Cinco Ranch.

I think Houston is a very friendly city. If you are aware of the fact the city is made up of a wide variety of people, and everyone reacts to things differently, then you won t be surprised. I think Houston suffers from an outdate reputation that no longer reflects what a great city it is and the opportunities it offers.

Yes. We just elected the first openly gay Mayor of a large city, Annise Parker. Houston is a city which is very accepting of most anyone. The suburbs are mostly young families but most will be pretty accepting too. Houston is huge, 600 sq. miles, so you need to figure out where you will be working, then ask us for good areas near that. If you have a choice, Montrose has the highest concentration of gays with lots of gay bars and is centrally located. Crime is no worse than any other city of the same size.

gays i know happen to be all friendly.it s 21st century, who gives a blank?

yeah, its accepting.there are parts that are more accepting-montrose, and parts that are less-but overall yeah

The suburbs are probably not the best idea...

it is now

Trying to book the cheapest, possible way from Toledo, OH to Boston, MA...? -

I m trying to get my friend to come visit me from Toledo, OH, but because it s the holidays, money is tight so I m trying to find the cheapest way possible. He would be leaving Toledo on Saturday, December 12 (I know, realllly short notice) and he would have to leave Boston on Thursday, December 17. I tried Amtrak, and those aren t too expensive, but I was wondering if anyone has travelled along that route a different way, or anything cheaper than $100 each way.Thank you so much for your help!

AmTrak is a good choice, and probably the cheapest. Air travel is also a possibility. Southwest Airlines has a Cleveland-Boston/Boston-Cleveland limited availability airfare for $89 each way ($99.20 with taxes).

Greyhound will sell you a Discovery Pass , 7 days for $199.http://www.discoverypass.com/That will probably be the cheapest. But there are scary people on the busses. Be very careful, keep an eye on all your stuff.Good luck, I hope you figure something out! :-)

Clubbing in the DC area LOVE chargin 20 dollar covers. Is this normal, or only after 11? -

I m relativly fresh to the clubbing scene, but like it a lot. However It s effing expensive after 20 dollar covers, and buying drinks. Is this just how DC is? I have had other people say, get on the guest list, and come before 11. Any suggestions? p.s. - I d like to go more, but lately only go with promoter friends, as they hook up free admission, and drinks. I don t want to be a leech though.

This is normal for DC and not-so-normal for LOVE. LOVE usually charges at least $30 to get in. I d suggest showing up before 11 as that may help some (more if you re a lady).Enjoy DC!

Orlando sanford to Orlando Int? -

How do i get from Orlando Sanford to Orlando International the easiest way? Cheers :D

Leave Orlando/Sanford air port by the main gate. Follow the signs that say To Greeneway or route 417. Stay in the right land. There is a sort of tricky junction just after route 50. Staying in the Right lane will get you through okay. The Greeneway is a toll road that will take you to the Orlando area. You will make an exit on to route 528 WEST. This will lead you directly to the front entry of the air port.Once you get onto the access road for the air port you will see overhead signs that indicate which air line is located in terminal A, B, or C.
