The DC stands for District of Columbia.Washington, DC isn t in a state. Back in the early days of the republic, the states had much more authority than they do today. When the capital was in Philadelphia, a riot broke out in front of Independence Hall where the Congress was meeting. The Pennsylvania authorities would not help to break up the riot. The Congressmen were able to sneak out the back down to the river and across the river to New Jersey (less than a mile in total). When Congress was finding a permanent place for the government, they remembered this and wanted the government to be in a city that it would control. So they decided on a federal district which is overseen by the federal government, not a state.And the exact location was actually picked, because it was up the road a bit from George Washington s estate and his family owned a good bit of land there.

It stands for District of Columbia. When they declared Independence and became a nation there was quite a bit of debate about where the seat of government should be. Each of the States opposed any motion from another State offering to house the politicians. Eventually they decided on a piece of swampland near the Potomac river. They agreed it would not be part of any State so was named a District. The thinking was that as the site was a swamp with all the attendant mossies and so forth it would discourage the politicians from staying too long and neglecting their home States. How little did they understand the ability of politicians to look after their own interests first and foremost!

I am writing a personal narrative about how i enjoy going to new york..i need ideas of what makes it SO great. my intro is ... picture this. tall buildings towering over you, bright lights and strange aromas that fill the air. Your in new york the city that never sleeps. new york has so much to offer when it comes to the reastraunts. seeing my family.. and going to the amusement parks. how do i make it personal and how do i make it intriguing

Tell the reader what they don t know about New York. The things that you know from the ground up.Getting up to move your car because of alternate side of the street parking. . Tell the alphabet soup we speak The FDR, The LIE, The BQE,the A,C,E,F,M,R ,123 lines. How about how the city pushes you. Pushes you out of its way when youre daydreaming in its path,or pushes you down when you act like a quitter or pushes you to run faster and further than you ever thought you could because you refuse to get left behind.Tell how every borough is like a city of its own, every neighborhood like a county, every block like a town and how if there are 2 of anything one of them is in New York. City that never sleeps ? tell them what its doing up all night. Not just the clubbing,the Con Ed guys sweating in t shirts at 3 am from the steam comming out of the manhole while everybody else is wrapped up against an artic blast. See what I mean ? It is not what New York has to offer you, it is what you can offer to New York. Say you like the stage, it is all there. Movies, modeling, education,culture, diversity it is all here. It is not so much the buildings and the lights as it is the dreams and hopes.. Years ago, people came to NYC from the old world and found that what was offered was a Chance to build on their dreams.It is a city of tremendous financial power and political influence and ofcoarse, history. All of the rich histories of New York make it all the more alluring.
