I find it ironic that my mom wants to go to hawaii but then my dad is obese, mom is conservative, little brother is lazy to swim and I am a less average swimmer. So what can we do?
Few people actually SWIM at the beach. They play in the water...up to about waist deep. If people want to swim, they generally swim laps in a pool. You can all enjoy the beach and the water...play beach ball, build sand castles. splash around, enjoy the beauty, park yourself in a beach chair under an umbrella and listen to music, read, take a nap Then go to the great restaurants, visit other sites on the islands.
There are lots of things you can do in hawaii besides swim. You can go horse back riding, hike through the rain forests to see waterfalls (and ridiculously cool scenery on the way), para-sail, jet ski, go to art galleries, shop, learn about the culture, go to a luau, see the dole pineapple plantation (and eat pineapple ice cream)... the list goes on. Of course, it helps to know what island you are staying on. I would recommend oahu, because that is the island with honolulu, waikiki and pearl city, where most of the population of hawaii lives. You will probably have more choices of what to do there than on the other islands, though the big island has volcanoes if you wanted to see them.
It s not a problem if you don t plan to swim. There are many other things to do. You can just relax on the beach or in a park, hike in a rainforest, do a circle island tour (either rent a car or book a tour), go sightseeing, visit the Polynesian Cultural Center, visit the Bishop Museum, Pearl Harbor, Sea Life Park, Waikiki Aquarium, Honolulu Zoo, Dole Plantation, the North Shore, etc. Here s a link to Oahu attractions http://www.to-hawaii.com/oahu/attraction
Of course! You can go biking, hiking, hunting, volleyball, climbing, rappelling, soccer, baseball, tennis, cricket, akito, judo, polo/equestrian, ride your car or motorcyle around the island...pick up the 100 things to do in Hawaii magazine when you go there.
Walk around and enjoy the tropical paradise.
sure you don t have to be an exceptional swimmer to enjoy hawaii? why would you think that?
