Winter storm is coming on Wed. night to Minnesota. I need to travel 3 hours south with 2 kids? -
Driving to Chicago from New York, anything to see along the way? -
Visit Indianapolis. It s probably the best city in the country.
I don t know the route you re traveling, but I can give you some unique roadside attractions in the states you ll be travelling. In Pittsburgh, PA, there s a Lumpy Mr. Roger s Statue. It is located at N. Shore Dr., I-279, exit A (North Shore). Look for the Heinz Field Stadium and the statue is located between it and the river. I was in Pittsburgh in May and found out about this statue, so I thought I d get a look at it for myself.Pittsburgh also has a 20 Ft Tall Transformer Robot on Fort Duquense Blvd. Take I-279, exit 6C onto Ft. Duquense Blvd. Drive three blocks and you ll see it on the right, just past the third stoplight. I saw this one, too, when I was going to the Duquense Incline and taking the Ducks Tour. Also in PA, there are giant Amish Statues in Lancaster. In Indiana, there s a giant tennis shoe in Newcastle. It s off of I-70 by the All American Inn.Also in Indiana, there s the Giant Santa Claus Statue in Santa Claus. It s not on a main interstate, but intersting to see. It s on Hwy 245.Mentone, IN, has the world s largest egg. Mentone is located in Northcentral IN. It s located on Main St, so you ll have to get off the highway to see it.Ohio: Cleveland has the World s Largest Stamp. It s located two blocks from the Rock and Roll Halll of Fame. I saw this one when I visited Cleveland. New York: there s the Big Duck in Flanders, NY. Take I-495/Long Island Expwy, Exit 71. Turn right on Edwards Ave, at traffic circle take third exit onto Flanders Rd, go about 2 1/2 miles and duck will be on the left.Check out this website for more odd attractions in each state:http://www.roadsideamerica.com
If you re doing it in 16 hours there isn t really much to see en route.Suggestion:Top off your tank in Stroudsburg PA so that you can do the run across I-80 PA w/o looking for a gas stationThen gas and food in Youngstown before get on the OH TPKGas in IN after you get off of the Indiana Toll Road b/c gas in IN is always cheaper than it is in IL
Confused about the location of Penn Station-NYC (railroad station)!! Please help me? -
My friend, Penn Station is located on 7th Avenue between 31st and 34th Street. The station is three blocks long and entirely underground. Penn Station is served by Amtrak, NJ Transit and the Long Island Railroad. The latter two (NJ Transit and LIRR) are commuter lines.Grand Central, on the other hand is located on East 42nd Street, on the east side of Manhattan. The train station is a commuter hub as it is the terminus for Metro-North Commuter Rail. Amtrak, on ocation will use Grand Central, however this is rear. Both Penn Station and Grand Central are served by the New York City Subway System.I hope this information is very helpful.Good luck
Grand Central is nowhere near 8th Avenue.Penn Station reaches from 7th Avenue to 8th Avenue and is between 30th and 34th Streets. It is underground; look for Madison Square Garden, which is easy to see (above ground) and in the same area.Grand Central is between Vanderbelt and Lexington, just north of 42nd. Officially, it is at the intersection of 42nd and Park, but you cannot enter from Park, because that section of Park is elevated and runs on the roof of Grand Central, not along side it.
438 8th Ave is def. Penn Station. There is much to do at the surface there. There is Kmart attached to the station (entrance from station on lower level). By the 7th and 32nd street exit is a Borders, and Macy s Herald Square is just up the street. So it depends upon how long of a layover you have
Penn Station is located between 7th and 8th Avenues between 31st and 33rd Streets. Grand Central Terminal is located at Park Avenue and 42nd Street. It s right under MSG, so you ll have plenty to do and eat.
Penn Station and Grand Central Station are distinctly different facilities in very different parts of the city. The address you found for Penn Station is correct. There are shops in Penn Station. Some are the typical tacky giftshop/newstand type place, but there are some other shops as well. Amtrak also has a waiting room although it s not the most comfortable place to spend time. There are a number of fast food places, and one full-service restaurant (Houlihan s). Penn Station is a fairly big place, and you can get lost if you wander away from the main terminal space (which is where the shops are). Penn Station is totally underground, and is directly beneath Madison Square Garden. If you have enough time, you can always leave the station and walk around - it s a fairly nice part of the city, and there are shops nearby. However, you don t want to take the risk of missing your connecting train, so make sure that you find your way back to Penn Station well before the scheduled departure time. Trains (and their platforms) are announced just before the scheduled departure time, so you want to be in the Amtrak waiting area when that announcement is made so that you can follow the herd to your platform.
Evanston to midway 4am via L? -
You would take the Purple line to Howard, where you would transfer to the Red line (the train is usually waiting for you) then transfer at State/Lake to the Orange line.It s hard to say if it will be safe. They do have security at the stations. I have noticed that it s ok up on the platform; you get into trouble when you go downstairs into the station. Mostly, you will be on top of the platforms. Once you re on the train, don t be afraid to walk to the first car and sit in the front if someone is harrasing you.I once got out of the train and quickly got onto the next car, leaving my looney looking daggers at me from the station as the train pulled away with me on it!!
it s possible, according to googlemaps.com and tripsweb.rtachicago.com. google maps says to walk to sherman noyes and get on the N201 bus to the howard train station. Then take the red line to roosevelt where you would transfer to the prange line, you take this all the way to midway. Or tripsweb says to get to howard via the purple line but the train wouldn t arrive until 6:30, there are several purple line stops that go past the northwestern campus, you would then do the same thing as if you used the bus.I personally would not approve of this because midway is located on the southside, to get there on public transportation you would have to go through some bad parts (back of the yards=scary!!) and weird people would be getting on the train. Not even rogers park by the train station is very safe at the time. So, no you couldn t take the purple line if you want to leave at 4am, if you waited until around 5:30 you could take the purple to the red to the orange, and tripsweb.rtachicago.com says that you would get to midway before 7am.
I take the Blue Line to the Orange Line every other day at 5am.Its pretty safe, same ol smelly bums around.

Is Oakmont/Verona/Penn Hills, PA a good place to move to? -
Penn Hills is a little questionable in my opinion. I would move further out to Monroeville.
Which National Park do you like better: Yellowstone or Yosemite? -
Oh, thats easy...YELLOWSTONE!I love winter time in Yellowstone the most. Summer is too crowded, winter, you get to see the animals up close, except the bears, spring and fall are best for bears.
Yellowstone: it is much larger, has much more variety, and the ability to view wildlife in their natural habitat is second to none. In addition, winter access and variety of attractions is phenomenally amazing.Even during its most crowded times, it s possible to drive or hike a mile or two and be completely alone, yet in beautiful and scenic surroundings. In Yosemite it requires a bit more work to get away from the massive crowds.
Yosemite.Simply more beautiful than Yellowstone.

Road trip to Grand Canyon from Tulsa...? -
Route 66 goes most of your way, and its best stretches are in Oklahoma. Library books and online sites can tell you exactly how to follow it and what sites (modern historic) to see. Are you visiting the south or north rim? Along the Interstate, I suggest:1) Cadillac Ranch, just west of Amarillo, TX: 11 tailfin Cadillacs embedded in a wheat field like teeth.2) The barb-wire museum in McLean, TX. Nearby is a steakhouse where you get your 72-oz. steak and all the side dishes trimmings free... if you can eat the whole thing in like an hour.3) The Painted Desert.4) Petrified Forest National Park.5) Tucumcari is a good place to stop for the night. It s in the desert and there are plenty, plenty of motels but it s a smallish town (7000?) so there won t be much congestion or getting lost.6) Maybe an hour west of Tucumcari, where the Interstate crosses the Pecos River, is Santa Rosa, a very nice town for a stop because of the parks based around the river, some swimming ponds, and a 105(?)-foot diving pool ( Big Blue or such). Upstream is a dam, downstream is a hamlet where Coronado stopped to build a bridge.7) Albuquerque has loads to see. I like their Old Town. Petroglyphs National Monument, on its western outskirts, is worth a look. There s a tram on the eastern outskirts, too.8) Acoma, a 1000-year-old town atop a mesa in western NM, is the oldest continually-inhabited U.S. community and open to tourists.Alternatively, you could go/return on a route north of the Interstate, which would take you through the big Indian reservations, the NM big mountains, Bandolier Nat l Monument Santa Fe Glorieta Pass, or perhaps the 4 corners rest stop, Taos, Cimarron National Grassland, and Capulin National Monument (a volcano). Route 666 has its fans. Have a good trip!
Oh, you lucky couple! Go I44 to OKC then take I 40 to Flagstaff. It is a Route 66 trip done on the Interstate system. It is fun. We have done it. You will take in the the Cowboy Hall of Fame in OKC along with some other stuff, Cadillac Ranch near Amarillo and maybe even Palo Duro Canyon, Albuquerque s wonderful attractions, the Painted Desert and lots to do and see in and near Flagstaff which is of course, where you would go a little northward to get to the Grand Canyon. Just remember the chorus of Nat King Cole s famous song:Well it goes through St. Louie, Joplin, MissouriOklahoma City looks mighty pretty. You ll see Amarillo, and Gallup, New MexicoFlagstaff, Arizona, don t forget Winona,Kingsman, Barstow, San Bernardino. You will be doing lines 2 through 4!Have a wonderful time getting your kicks on Route 6 6.
Grand Canyon has awesome sights (was there last week). If you don t find good places along the road at least you know you ll love the Grand Canyon!Hope you have fun!
