How do I get a job in Alaska? -

I have heard of people who go there like for three months or so. And the go back tho their places of residence with hard cash. I ll like to do that sometime. Don t get me wrong, I know is tough to even live there, but I have a free spirit and really would like to try sometime. Thank you

You can try the state employment commission s website.Craigslist too though they tend to have a lot of spammers on there.

The seasonal Alaska jobs you are referring to pay $7.15 an hour. Mostly, only foreign nationals work them because that is a lot of money in their homeland. There is virtually unlimited overtime so they can work 80 hours per week and get 6 months worth of income in only 3 months. The jobs are working in seafood processing plants and most people find that working with smelly, oily fish guts to be a disgusting occupation.Due to decades of overfishing, the days of working on a fishing boat and making a fortune during the summer months are gone. Those jobs are selectively given out to family and friends and many of the people I know who are in that line of work barely break even. When the price of fuel spiked last year they got hit especially hard and couldn t make enough money off the fish to continue operations. You would make more money if you stayed where you are and worked 2 full time minimum wage jobs because it would spare you the cost of getting to Alaska and back.On the other hand, if you have a degree there is a shortage of qualified job applicants in Alaska. Teachers and nurses are especially needed, as are engineers, surveyors, and other specialized jobs.

Need suggestions on neighborhoods with low crime, racially diverse and are family orientated in/near Denver? -

We are a family looking to move from the Milwaukee, WI area to Denver. Ideally, we would love to find a neighborhood/s that are family orientated, has a very low crime rate and is somewhat racially diverse. We are an African American homeschooling family. Any suggestions?

Lakewood, just west of Denver. http://www.lakewood.org

Suggestions based on your questions criteria: Aurora, east of Denver, very large, mainly lower and upper class on separate sides of town, new and old homes. Lakewood and Wheatridge, west of Denver, mostly middle class. Mostly older homes. ALL cuturally diverse. That being said...You are moving to Colorado. I thought I saw a gang member once, turned out he just had a poor sense of style. Crime is low, so many of us are armed for hunting that the criminals are scared. As far a racism, we are having too much fun outside to worry about the color of your skin. My true recommendation? Hit the mountains, about 20 min west of Denver. Morrison$, Evergreen $$, or Gennesee$$$ Get a taste of the state and then choose where you want to live.

African American? Wth?!

What is so special about living in Chicago (10 points for most thorough answer!)? -

As someone who lives there, what kind of things do you go out and do?Any information about the city I look for just shows tourist information/attractions.Also if one were to move to Chicago in their early to mid 20 s, what would be a good way to go about it? (financial preparation, job access, affordable areas to live)Is it better to live in the city or outside? Better as in financially, socially, job opportunities. What areas (in and out) of the city are best to live? and what s there to do outside of the city? What parts of Chicago are not safe?

10 points for all those questions?Things I do are not necessarily the same as tourist sight seeing quests.I do enjoy the lake in summer, Both at it and getting a break from heat when theres an east wind. In Winter it is warmer near the lake than in the hinterland. There are about 50 museums to visit. Many people don t know about most of them and think there are 4 or 5. Some are real hidden gems.Preparation for the move? Pack up and stay at a friend s apartment. That s what I did until one opened up in the same bldg. Get a job first. Chgo is hit by the Bush catatastrophe as much as anywhere I guess but there are jobs to be found.I suggest living close to downtown on the north side as a single. There are several areas with nightlife and single bars. If you have kids maybe a nearby suburb would fit you better. In general, the closer to the lake, and downtown, the better the neighborhoods. This is not completly true on the south side. Stay away from there anyway as it is not that friendly to newcomers.Bad things....Taxes are higher here than anywhere else. As a result, food, fuel, transportation and most other things are higher than you would expect. Traffic is congested with a lot of construction projects fixing the falling apart superstructure that has been neglected. Construction soon stops but snow will start. Commuting will continue to be long. Public transportation is fairly good although people complain. There are 2 tracked systems and 2 bus systems that serve the entire area. 95% of the city and suburbs is accessable by public transportation.Wisconsin is close for escapes to the north and Indiana and Michigan have great beaches within a couple hours.

What are some good date ideas in Portland, OR? -

I want to take this girl out and make sure she has fun. It has to be something where we can talk and joke and i can show her how amazing i am. any ideas?

Not sure of your age, so some of this may not be possible, but:Harvey s Comedy Club or Darcel s - if you re brave. Some of the funniest things I ve seen is at these two places. The zoo, the Japanese Garden, and OMSI are all all age date locations. As a female, I would enjoy something adventurous like OMSI, or fun like the zoo/comedy club. I d find the Japanese Gardens romantic. However....if you two don t know each other that well, take her someplace very public (not so much the gardens) to make sure she isn t worried about her surroundings. Location can only do so much though. If she thinks you re amazing, it will help, but if the chemistry isn t there - no amount of window dressing is going to make her buy the house.

Keep in mind its not what you do, its how you interact when you are together and whether you have fun or not. I used to live in Oregon, and I remember there being an amazing restaurant, The Portland City Grill. It s on the 30th floor and overlooks the city. Expect to pay WAY too much, but the view is wonderful!http://www.portlandcitygrill.com/page/hoOne thing I did for my wife is take her to Powell s Books and give her $100 gift card to go on a spree. Millions of books means endless conversation starters. The Portland Spirit lunch or dinner cruise is nice too (I have heard). What s playing at the Keller?Walking along the river is nice, especially in the evening/night.I believe the first Thurs. of every month the art galleries are all open late and free.

Go to the zoo, plenty of time to talk, and just be yourself, The animals will give you both amazement and amusement. Which both are needed in a date, especially a first date.

I don t know if theyre open or what but how bout the Shanghi Tunnels?
