Where is a safe, affordable place to live in San Francisco? -

I m moving to San Francisco in January, and I m looking for a safe and affordable neighborhood to live in. I ll be working near the corner of Van Ness Ave. and O Farrell St., and I need to keep morning travel time in mind when i select a place to live.Does anyone have any suggestions for areas to look for apartments? I ve heard Daly City is nice and safe, but since I m not familiar with the City s traffic (I d like to drive to work or possible) or public transit system, I don t know if this is the right choice.

I don t think San Francisco is very familiar with the term affordable, but the best place to find a big amount of listings all at once is to surf around craigslist. You can scope everything out by neighborhood. Beware the tenderloin!!

Daly City is nice, but it s pretty far away from your workplace. The Richmond and Sunset districts are nice, too. They re a little more chill and there is less burglary. There is a very low violent crime rate, but the petty crime rate is quite high (pretty much anywhere in San Francisco). The Inner Richmond area is only like a 15 minute bus ride or an 8 minute drive (it s about 2.5 miles) from where you are going to be working so that would probably work out. Some places are a lot nicer than others and I think Richmond is a pretty relaxed, low-crime, affordable place.

What means affordable ? the richmond, sunset area is kind of affordable for $600 to $700 per shared room and easy commute. Some area in Daly city is not safe, and you must buy two transit passes to get SF, bus ride time is 1hr 30min to your work place. All those 3 places are majority Asian( 80% to 95%)

The city is too expensive for you. You should try Daly City and share a place with someone. DAly City is only 10 minutes from the city.If you still prefer the city, there are illegals inlaws studio - which is terrible (condition) to live in.

you may be better off geting a roomate and living in the eastbay.7 or 8 hundred dollars a month is about half the rate for a nice 2 bedroom place in Oakland or Hayward.

You re joking, right ? A tiny studio will cost you $1,200 a month. You can rent a room in that price range. This isn t Mississippi, things are high here. Big mistake, pal. And traffic is a nightmare in the City.

I would check out craigslist for room shares you may..find something a room in an apartment or house. (sharing the apartment/house)

Foster City-ish

Question about air travel prices from LA to Honolulu? -

or even better San Diego to honolulu (i live in sd) What prices should I accept if im leaving the 1st of january? is $350 ok or should I wait for lower prices? and what websites should I look at besides hawaiianair.com? I would really appreciate it! thankyou!

You should sign up for the Hawaiian Air miles and get their email updates. They post alot of specials especially during the holiday seasons. 350 is a great price but search other sites like priceline.com or expedia or even check with a local travel agency in your area, they can help you shop for the lowest fare. Happy hunting!

Look on Expedia: http://www.expedia.com/I m going to Hawaii after Thanksgiving from L.A.

$350 is more than ok... I went to Honolulu in October from LA and I paid $500 round trip!... good luck on finding really good prices...

Beaches in Dallas, Tx? If so are they warm in January? -

So, we want a beach vacation. Going in January. Thought about going to Dallas so we could visit TD Jakes church, The Potter s house. Are there beaches nearby that you can actually swim at? and if so what are some of the beachfront hotels that are not luxury...I m talking about like a Best Western or something..

Dallas is about 250 miles from the Gulf of Mexico so it would not be a short drive for you. There is a lake near the Potter s house, but no beach, and it is too cold to get in the water this time of year. There are several decent motels not too far from the church.

Beaches? Please look at a map. Dallas is not on the coast! There are some lakes near Dallas, but too cold to swim (on the average) in January. The nearest real beach is Galveston, which is roughly 290 miles from Dallas. The weather in Galveston is quite variable in January, but on the average fairly cool and cloudy. Not freezing, but not great beach weather.

There are no beaches in Dallas. Dallas is in north Texas, not on the Gulf of Mexico. There are some lakes in the area with swimming areas, but it s much too cold to swim here in January.
