Texas guy about to visit Monticello,Minnesota. What do i need to know? -

So I live in Texas all my life and never even been out of state before. But i am going to be visiting a friend in Monticello,Minnesota And i would like to know any helpful tips or advice.what i should take to keep warm.what i should be wearing..anything you think is helpful since i am not use to cold weather.Give me some insights for minnesota..what can i expected?

BRING LAYERS AND LAYERS AND LAYERS!!!!!! we just had a snow storm in minnesota it s really not that bad of a storm considering i ve seen about 3 feet of snow in one day, but in some areas its about 2 feet at the highest, you are coming at a bad time to visit, especially if you are a Southerner who has never seen snow! and you may want to learn about windchill, i ve noticed people in other states don t really know what windchill is, don t listen to what temp the actual weather is going to be, look for windchill, it s what it will actually feel like! but minnesota is a very nice place to be! and if you go anywhere its POP! not soda! (: lol and its hot dish! and no we don t say eh? or you betcha, and it is polite to smile at people when you walk by! so yes we are minnesota nice lol! but if you are really not used to cold weather, seriously be prepared, i m used to 20 degrees, that s a pretty nice day out! this week it s going to be in the 10s and may drop below 0 which is not unusual for this time of year, actually it s been pretty warm, and yes we do have lots of lakes over 22,000 to be exact! and if you are a southerner with a heavy accent, then expect to think we have funny accents, when i went down south, i had many people comment on my accent but over all it s a very nice place to be! in the summer you should come up here and rent a cabin on Superior, or in the fall! in summer we get pretty warm around 80-90 but we won t need to think about that for awhile (:hope you love it here!!!!!!!!!! if you have any more questions about minnesota or minnesotans feel free to send me a message! i ve lived here my whole life (: and love it!

Well its a bad time for you to go because we just had a snow storm a few days ago! lol! we ve been getting negitive temps but for somebody who lives here isn t to bad but since ur used to hot hot weather then it may be a little weird! Report Abuse

o and i GARUNTEE YOU WILL SEE SNOW!!!!! we usually have snow in november!!!! there has never been a time we haven t had snow then!!!!!! i garuntee you will se snow!!!!!!!!!! Report Abuse

What to do in Chicago? -

My girlfriend and I are going to Chicago for the first time and I am looking for some advice on nice sights, good restaurants and other activities.

If you like art there is a fine museum on Michigan Ave where impressionists abound. I recommend that as well as a guided architecture tour to see a feww of the iconic buildings there. Frank Lloyd Wright s stuidio is in nearby Oak Park. The Science Museum is world famous. In it they have a Boeing 727, a train and a U-Boat.For entertainment in the evening I can recommend Second City, the breeding ground that gave us so many comedians that we know and love. Many have gone from there to Saturday Night Live. And the Blues!! Several Great Clubs. I like Kingston Mines on Halstead. Sometimes a college ID will get you in. $3 beers. Some great soul food very reasonably priced and two bands giving you six hours entertainment. Shows start at about nine or nine thirty. Rosa s is a good club as well. There is also another club right across the street from Kingston with the famous BLUES sign. Of course ther is Buddy Guy s club, BB king s and the House of Blues, but I think tha6t is more of a tourist thing. You are supposed to eat a Chicago Dog and deep dish pizza, but I think that they were both terribly overrated.

Lots of things to do in Chicago. Do a search on Chicago tourism or consult a guidebook [either printed or on line, e.g. Fodor s, Frommer s, etc.]. Millenium Park, MoSI, the restaurant/bar near the top of the Hancock building. You may have to pay for a drink, but it s cheaper than paying for the observation deck, and if you go at the right time, i.e. after lunch hour and before happy hour, you might even get the view for free. Your girlfriend should definitely check out the ladies room there! Shedd Aquarium, the Art Institute, gallery-hopping in River North, window shopping on the Magnificent Mile.If you want an amazing, adventurous, VERY expensive dining experience, try Moto. The food is molecular gastronomy , the latest fad in dining. They have a website. Dinner will be $100 each without drinks. It s a once-in-a-lifetime treat. [I was lucky enough that someone treated me!] Another interesting spot is Heaven on Seven on the 7th floor of an office building downtown [they have a website, too]. It s Cajun, etc., food in a fun setting - good place for lunch. The dirty burger is great!
