If a person is traveling at 40 miles per hour, how long does it take to 1 mile? -
Going to Boston, late January. What type of outerwear should be appropriate to stay warm? -
Wow, these other people are trying to scare you. It might be really cold out but if you re dressed correctly you ll be plenty warm. The best thing to do is to dress in thin layers of clothing and if you get too warm you can always remove something.I wear a layer of silk underwear consisting of socks, long johns, and undershirt. Over that I would wear wool socks with slacks/jeans and a shirt. Over that I might wear a fleece vest. Over the vest I would wear a warm windproof/waterproof jacket, it doesn t have to be too heavy because the layers will keep you plenty warm.Don t forget some waterproof boots/sneakers with a warm hat and also waterproof insulated gloves (mittens are even warmer) with a silk liner. If your coat doesn t have a hood then wear a scarf on windy days. If it is below zero degrees farenheit then also wear a balaclava which covers the face and head:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balaclava_(A snowsuit would also work but they are big and bulky and are more suitable for when you are outside for long periods of time with little physical exertion like when you are ice fishing or snowmobiling.
The temperatures in Boston in late January can range from the low 60s to below zero. The cold can be accompanied often by a biting wind. Obviously bring clothes for such extremes (a hooded coat is recommended instead of a hat, earmuffs and scarf). And bring insulated, waterproof boots!!!
basically, a parka LOL. I suggest a fleece zip up underneath a down feather jacket- you will need gloves, a hat, and some WARM wool socks. Boots that are waterproof and some warm pants.Gooooood luck!P.S. Temps range in jan from -10 degrees to around 27 degrees so be mindful.
If you want to stay warm, wear fleece. Also, layer up your clothes. Wear a hat (you ll be much colder without anything on your head), gloves, scarf, heavy coat, and warm socks. Focus on staying warm as opposed to looking good.
fleece! and LAYER. it will be cold, probably at least a bit below freezing in january. leggings/long underwear might help too.
underware? Forget that get a snow suit.
Urban Desert where it never snows! Sounds like paradise to me. You really don t want to come here in January. New England winters are downright nasty. No fun at all. just very cold, sometime to the point that it hurts. And the snow, is overrated at best. Snow is cold, wet, ugly and makes the roads dangerous to drive on. You could live a full rewarding life without ever seeing that white sh*t, ever. Trust me on this one. Anyway, to answer your question, you will need a heavy winter coat, some sweaters, gloves, boots and a wool hat, perhaps a scarf. Most days, that will be sufficient, however, on the coldest days of the year, no matter how much you bundle up, you will still be cold. My advice, unless it s absolutely necessary, cancel your trip and come back in the summer. American Eagle stores are common in shopping malls in New England. Here is a store locator for American Ehttp://www.ae.com/web/storelocator/defauThe nearest one to Boston is in the Natick Mall, about 20 miles outside the cityhttp://www.ae.com/web/storelocator/store
Best thing to wear would be a car with a good heating system. It is going to be so bleeping cold you can t imagine. Listen to the Jimmy Buffett song Boat Drinks , that was written while he was in Boston in February one year.If you want to go for fashion, wear a long black wool coat (below the knees) w/scarf and a hat (stocking hat). You will also want some warm boots (Uggs). You can wrap the scarf up around your face.If you want to go for warmth, change the coat to a long nylon shell down coat (also below the knees) w/scarf and hat and boots. A hood on the coat with a fur (faux fur works) trim to keep the wind out is good too. You can find these coats at LLBean.com, my wife has one.Under that you will want turtle neck shirt and a sweater.Don t forget mittens or gloves.Be aware that if it s snowing or raining the Ugg style boots are not the best choice as they won t keep your feet dry. The key to staying warm is to keep your head, back of your neck and feet warm and dry.
Would a Ford Focus, or something of that nature, be ok for driving from Denver to Vail in the winter? -
I ve been driving Ford Focuses in metro Denver for 10 years now. Most front wheel drive do pretty good in the snow ( 1-6 ) after that it gets a little iffy. The low profile. If you don t get caught in a storm, you ll be fine. Good luck.
How experienced are you with driving on ice and snow? They plow I-70 but not down to pavement. It frequently has packed snow and ice. Still dangerous to drive with a very small car unless you are very experienced. If it snows, they clear some of the snow and the rest stays on the Hwy until it melts. I lived in the mountains for many years, and slid up and down I-70 many times. I wouldn t have driven it in anything but my all-wheel drive.
We drove up there in a Nissan Altima (front wheel drive) and it did better than we expected in the snow. We are from the south and in no way experienced with driving in those conditions. I think a Ford Focus would be as good as any. Be careful and have a good trip.
Yeah - just dont drive like an idiot or you ll end up kissing the retaining wall... PS if our on a budget, forget Vail you ll end up spending 100+ on a hotel room, and 50+ a meal. Check out Breckenridge or Keystone.
Sure, why not? just be sure to include the optional tire chains, and make certain they will actually fit the car. Better safe that stranded along the road.
I have a ford focus and live up in Craig. It s a great car in the snow and ice!
i live in Denver too. hi
How can you move to new york all by your self? and stay alive!!? -
The rents in Manhattan are very expensive. If you can cover that expense, the rest is easy. And you ll love living there!
One day in the Florida Keys - what to do and how to do it? -
We were there this past week. On the downside, it s almost a 4 hour drive between Miami and Key West. And the roads will be extra busy that time of the year, so the trip may take even longer. I would think by now, all the inns/hotels/resorts in Key West are probably booked during the week between the holidays. If there s a place left, it ll cost a small fortune for one night. Unless your staying in Key West for a few days to truly soak in the care-free atmosphere, I might pass. Key West is not especially kid-friendly, but it depends upon what the boys find amusing. There s plenty of oddities in the heart of Key West. On the other hand, friends might be disappointed if you can t tell them that you visited The Conch Republic. So a one day trip is in order. A lot of people do that...8-9 hours driving just to be able to say, Yeah, I was there. Besides, the drive down is rather spectacular with the narrow flat keys, bridges. and colorful waters. The big tourist spots and popular photo opportunities in Key West are...the famous buoy monument located at South and Whitehead Streets marking the southernmost point in the continental USA. It s always good to have that photo of the family in your scrapbook. Choose a decent-looking person to take the photo for you and give him a buck for the effort. http://cache.virtualtourist.com/1145438-(That s not us.)Parking should not be a problem there, so visit that first. Then in the heart of town, parking is difficult, highly restricted to the resorts or metered, and it s closely monitored. Ernest Hemingway s old hangout, Sloppy Joe s Bar, is a must visit. A pix of everybody standing outside Sloppy Joe s on Duval Street will get your husband s beer-drinking buddies cheering. http://www.trykeywest.com/wp-content/uplJust around the corner from Sloppy Joe s is Mel Fishers Maritime Museum. The museum has an amazing collection of hands-on old Spanish treasures. Skip the intro movie and take the 1/2 hour tour immediately. Then across the street from Mel s and next to the docks are the shops with their unique Key West collection of odds and ends. The sun sets just before 6 pm, and since you ll probably be right there at Mallory Square and the docks, take in the Sunset Celebration between 4 and 6, with the mini-carnival atmosphere of street performers, crafts, and munchies. http://z.about.com/d/goflorida/1/0/M/d/KThen I would high-tail it out of there for the drive back to Miami. Key West. Maybe the long drive is worth it, just to be able to nod your head with a smile and say, Yeah, I was there!
Miami Must See s = Vizcaya, Coral Castle, DownTown/Brickell area, South Beach, Holocaust memorial, Miami Art Museum.. All of the above are close to eachother except Vizcaya + Coral Castel. Really Miami can t be done in this short of time but yea...Key West Must See s = Southern Most Point, Hemigway Home/Museum, The Beaches! Duval Street, Key West Lighthouse and Keeper s Quarters Museum, Mel Fisher Maritime Museum...Hope you have fun in Miami !! =)
Key west has its charm but if you only have a day it may not make sense to drive all the way there and back. I would say check out some things in Miami /Fort Lauderdale and head to Key Largo for cheaper activities Key Largo Parasail has good dealsyou can also get better rates on jet skiing there is a glass bottom boat tour as well.i believe some snorkeling is available before key west too.Key largo is about a 2 hour drive.Enjoy!
Yeah, first find accommodations. Anywhere in the Keys, but get as close to Key West as you can. Expect for pay big bucks for a not-so-great place. Get into Key West early and park as close to Duval as possible. Take the convenient trolley tours. Hop off and on wherever you want and visit the places on the tour.http://www.trolleytours.com/Key-West/
http://www.youtube.com/results?search_quHere s some youtube videos of people driving around Key West. However, getting there isnt as scenic as you d imagine. You see water at Key Largo, but before that its mostly tall swamplike grass beside the road. I thought it would be just gorgeous and it really wasnt worth the time. I couldve just stayed in Fort Lauderdale and viewed the ocean there. Key West is pretty tho. Im not sure about activities, and lodging as we had to drive back. Our boat left in the morning from Ft Lauderdale. http://www.fla-keys.com/keywest/ Official Tourism Site See along the left hand column for attractions etc.
