Well heres the Travel DistanceDetroit to Chicago - 4 Hours 45 MinutesDetroit to Indianapolis - 5 hours 15 MinutesDetroit to Columbus - 3 hours 23 MinutesDetroit to Pittsburgh 5 hours 40 MinutesThats a good break down of how long it will take you to get to these places, anywhere in Michigan can take from 2 to 6 hours, if you want to go somewhere really nice. There is really nothing to do in Michigan, and its extremely cold, I would recommend either Chicago or Pittsburgh. There is nothing to do in Columbus or Indianapolis, they are very boring towns, I would recommend Pittsburgh, because there is less people there than there is in Chicago, and notably because the Drive to East is much better than the Drive west, you drive to Chicago you will be fighting the elements such as Snow, sleet, ice, and extreme wind which is coming or on its way to Detroit and all of it technically comes from the west. Driving East you just follow the New York City road and its well warmed in my personal opinion. If you do decide to go, have a Safe Trip!
I would go to mackinaw island or Chicago.
