Help with baseball (spring training) in PHX, ARIZONA please.? -

Okay, some questions background info. I ll be driving in from Las Vegas thusly will have a car. Will be picking up a friend from the airport (there in phx). Most likely stay 3 nights (maybe just 2) depending on $ situation.I ve been to PHX a few times, but this was a decade ago. Budget isnt huge. Where to stay? Is downtown dificult to navigate, park, etc. The biggest cost of them all will be lodging. I m used to places like days inn, holiday inn express, fairfield, clarion. Needs to be safe, clean. Doesnt need to be fancy. Suggestions? Also, what about booking lodging and tickets? Do it now? Cant remember when tickets become available (buying direct)? But, some ticket joints like stubhub already have offerings available i guess. Is it true that games sell out often?I want to see Seattle for sure (for suzuki). I ve actually been to the stadium in Peoria. Is that still where SEA plays?Restaurant suggestions? We both like mexican food. For the most part our $ is going to be dedicated to:tix, lodging, food that s about it. Thank you.

Your M s share the complex with my Padres. This is the address with some watered down directions:Peoria Sports Complex16101 N. 83rd Ave Peoria, AZ 85382 Driving Directions:Take either I-10 or I-17 to Loop 101(Agua Fria Freeway) Take Loop 101 West, if traveling on I-17, or Loop 101 North if traveling on I-10. Exit Bell Road east (exit 14) Turn south on 83rd Avenue Peoria Sports Complex is approximately one-quarter mile down on the east side of 83rd Avenue. This shows a lot of hotels in the area.http://local.yahoo.com/results?stx=hotelOn Bell Road there are a ton of eateries. Many Mexican food joints. When should you book? Well I would say to book your hotel ASAP. You can buy your tickets a little later if you need to. The reason I say this is that there are so many Snowbirds coming to Phoenix in the winter and spring that they really take up a lot of the rental rooms. I d say that the valley s population increases by almost 20% this time of year. You can really tell by the drop in traffic congestion when they leave.

Has anyone ever driven from New York to New Orleans? -

We are planning a road trip to New Orleans for Mardi Gras in Feb 2010... I am looking for some information on the route down, meaning attractions, sights etc... I ve never driven down that way before and am wondering if there is anything worth stopping for on the way down??

I have not driven between NY and NO, but have driven from New Orleans to North Carolina (most of the way). The most direct route from NY is via Harrisburg, Knoxville, and Birmingham. A more interesting route would probably be via Washington DC, Charleston, Savannah, Jacksonville, and Pensacola/Mobile - but it would also be a longer trip (though only about 250 miles more.).All of the states and cities have tourism websites.Realize that traffic and parking are the absolute number one problem in New Orleans during Carnival. Don t try to park on the street - it s a recipe for being towed away by the City. If your hotel is in the French Quarter most of the FQ becomes a pedestrian mall starting the Thursday before Mardi Gras Day. Ask your hotel how to get your car into the no vehicles area, and remember the nighttime crowds may be very thick. Go to these sites for info about Carnival in New Orleans, and the FAQ sections may be very useful:http://www.mardigras.com/http://www.mardigrasguide.com/Hope you have a good trip!

Why do Americans drive on right side of the road? -

I know that most european countries began with driving on the left (even though most now drive on the right), so im wondering when they settled in america why did they change it to right? Do you know why they changed in europe too?Im Australian and we drive on the left.... its always baffled me why some are left and some are right!

When America gained its independence from Great Britain, our leaders tried to do as much as possible to be different from the British. Since the British drove on the left, we started driving on the right.Although it can t be proven, the story goes that Napoleon changed Europe to the right side. Most countries have changed to conform to their bordering countries.66% of the people in the world live in right driving countries while 34% live in left driving countries.

I did,nt know that most European countries drove on the left, i thought it was only the UK....Has,nt it got something to do with the Commonwealth or ex-Commonwealth countries? The idea of driving on the left originated during the war against Napoleon: allied soldiers marching on the left hand side of the road would be better placed when attacking/defending the French enemy coming from the right??

because back when the Romans ruled, and they invented roads. Road lanes are wide enough for 2horses side by each to run. which is why cars are the size they are today, to pit on the roads. roman roads where right side of the road because it makes more sence to swing a sword (for a right handed person) and some one you were riding by on your left. because having a cross swing like that also offers protection.

you know idk but i think its because a lot more people are right handed so everything is in easier reach...ergonomics at its best.... plus because people are right handed they are more inclined to do things on their right side like a right of way i guess :)

Because it s the right side of the road. That s why. lol ;)Edit: Aww I was only tryin to be funny Mr. thumbs down...why u gotta hate.

Cause we like to be different.Originality FTW!

idk O_o

to keep from having a wreck

i m a Malaysian and we also drive on the left. i believe the reason Americans, and other countries such as Germany and Spain, drive on the right because by default their cars is left hand drive, instead of right hand drive like our cars. by driving on the right, drivers can see out of their left window for incoming traffics. its easier and safer that way.for experiment, try sitting on the left side of your car and imagine driving it on your normal roads. it will be hard right? ;-)

American s are lame.

Is the MTA in NYC really planning on cutting out the student metrocards? -

You got it. Check out the link below.Good luckNative New Yorker

It will not happen. The MTA always comes up with these plans that are extreme that they will have to implement unless they somehow get saved. they always do and the citizens end up paying in some way. The free passes are mostly given to young impoverished people who may not be able to attend school if that were not the case. The city will not cut them loose. The MTA instead should look for ways to cut the fat internally. The way that the system is structured allows for a lot of excess and wasted time. For example, train operators and conductors have a very lucrative overtime capability. The dispatches who do assignments have to be instructed to hand out assignments in the most efficient way possible. Then there has to be a review process to insure that this is being done. I
