We are supposed to go to the Virginia Beach / Richmond area Sunday thru Thursday for a fishing vacation and there is severe flooding throughout that area with water in the streets and the governor declared a state of emergency. Does travelocity or Ramada have to refund our money as this is something we have no control over? (No, my husband spend the extra money for travel insurance.)
Getting your money back reduces to I no longer want to fly there. That isn t a basis for a refund. However, if the flight is canceled, you might have luck going to the airport for departure and getting a travel voucher for another time. That s risky thoughthey might fly you to someplace close and then bus you there. If you bought travel insurance, this would be the time to read the policy s fine print and see if a hurricane is covered. If so, file a claim quickly.
If the hotel is open, ready for business, and can rent you the room that you paid for, then they are under no obligation to refund your money. Good reason to never take the prepaid, non-refundable rate on a hotel. Call the hotel first, as you won t get anywhere with Travelocity. And Virginia Beach and Richmond are almost 100 miles apart. So which are you going? Richmond isn t near the coast and should be much better off than Virginia Beach and Norfolk.
You might be btter off if you can ask them to postpone the trip, rather than canceling it all together.
call and ask.
