What are the best attractions in Roswell, NM? -

My husband and I live on Holloman AFB, and my brother came down from MI for Christmas so we are thinking of going to Roswell since there is NOTHING in Alamogordo. What are the things to see and do there? And is there anything worth checking out on the way to Roswell?

My brother is homeless in NYC, help!? -

My brother, for reasons unknown to me, got kicked out of his cousin s house where he s been staying for months. I know my brother well enough to know that he probably didn t deserve to get kicked out, he is very mild-mannered and sweet, and I know my cousin well enough to know that she is hot-headed and pathetic and he probably refused to do some ridiculous chore for her and kicked him out because of it. So, now my question is: where can he stay in NYC or even Jersey City? Are there still Y s out there for people to stay temporarily? Not shelters, but maybe some transitory places that charge a small amount for weekly rent or something? I mean, literally he has no place to stay. I live in Maryland so he can t come to live with me, so I need some help. He will probably be able to afford an apartment in a month once he gets the security deposit together, but until then he s out on his tail. Any help at all would be great, thank you.

Hostels will only let a person stay for 21 days then kick them out.Others (like the Chelsa International) will do it in 14 days.http://411newyork.org/guide/2008/04/20/hThe Y s mays follow the same rule unless you ae sent there by the State/City.Does your brother have any funds now to pay $25 to $100 per night for rooms? If so, he can bounce from Hostel to Hostel when he reached the limit unless he got one (like the Jazz Hostels) to hire him until he can get a permanent place to stay.http://www.jazzhostels.com/work_exchangeSince you are in MD, your brother would have it hard to get to you but he could City Hall and apply for a free one-way bus/plane ticket as a last resort if you are willing to take him.http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/0Try talking to your cousin. Maybe they will have a change of heart or let him stay until he get gets the security deposit and rent.

Well, if he can afford it, the YMCA has rooms for about $65 a night (see link, below). If he can t afford that, then the only other possibilities I can think of are either a flophouse hotel down on the Bowery, south of Houston Street, where he can maybe get a bed in a dormitory style room for about $10 a night, or a homeless shelter (see link, below).Good luck!

Jamerican Steve offers some great resources, but I think I should add that it is not that expensive to get from NY to Maryland (Baltimore or Greenbelt, specifically). A bolt bus fare is often as low as 1 dollar.
