Why is washington DC not in washington state ? -

washington DC should not be in maryland, that makes no sense !

Well you have a few things wrong...1) Washington D.C. is not the capitol of Maryland, that is the city of Annapolis2) Washington D.C. was set up separate from Maryland so technically it is not in Maryland or Virginia. It was a created city that was named after General and President George Washington back in the very late 1700 s (talking about 1795-96). 3) Washington State is not a city at all, hence the word state .4) In the late 1700 s the still fledgling U.S. had not expanded westward, so the land that would become Washington the state, had not been ceded by treaties or force to the U.S. (using ceded not discovered , as the land had been discovered just not named as such.)5) Washington the state did not become a state until 1889 and it s capitol is Olympia

When Washington DC was established, there was no state of Washington. It was named Washington District of Columbia after President George Washington (Columbia being named after Christopher Columbus). The US capitol was originally New York City, but at the end of his final term, Washington moved the capitol to the border between Virginia and Maryland so that it will be as close to the center of the United States as possible without being in a single state. At that time, the United States was only made up of 13 states on the East Coast. The District of Columbia is not in a state, and it s not a state of it s own. It kind of has its own special status because it is the capitol of the US.The state of Washington didn t become a state until almost 100 years after Washington DC was established. It was also named after President George Washington, but it has nothing to do with the capital, Washington DC other than the fact it has the same name and it s in the US.

My patience is wearing thin.I will explain.Washington D.C. Is the District of Columbia. It has been designated as a Federal District. It is where all of the important Federal Buildings and monuments were to be located. It is the Federal District of our United States government. Washington D.C. is not a state. It has different police and different laws that govern its small area. The White House is fine where it is. People just need to become better map readers at some point in their life to understand the difference between Washington D.C. and the state of Washington, 3.000 miles away.Maryland is just a state which is next to Washington D.C.Washington state is NOT THE CAPITOL OF THE USA.

its not in maryland wow im 13 and even i know thisDC stands for district of Columbia and its, its very own little state thing yet its not in the united states but it is at the same time it gets very confusing but the white house is not in maryland it in the district of Columbia its its own little area so yea and washington state is not the capital of the us WASHINGTON DC THATS WHERE THE WHITE HOUSE IS LOCATED im 13 and i know this..... come on

Washington State is a state and it s on the north west corner of the country. Washington DC (District of Columbia) is the US capitol. It is technically not a part of any state. It is its own entity. Washington DC was the capitol city long before Washington State became a state which was in 1888 or so.

Washington DC is the capital city of the United States. It is bordered by the state of Maryland. Washington is a state located in the Northwest of the United States.

Um... Washington state is not the capitol, D.C. is. It used to be in Philly, though so think about that and take another toke.

Washington DC was created where it is because of a treaty between the north and south before the civil war. It was originally in NYC after the American Revolution

Take remedial US history. You need it.

An honest opinion about Las Vegas...? -

My husband and I have just sold our home in Virginia and would really like to move back to the western US. We love the Vegas area (not the strip). I know that the housing is really low right now and would be a good time to buy....BUT...I need to know about the potential for employment. I am finishing my degree in environmental management and will be done by June. My husband will continue at his job in Iraq until next fall, but then he will need to get a job in Vegas also (his field is occupational safety). I know what I ve read about the employment rates out there, but can anyone give me advice on these the availablity of jobs in these two fields? I am a licensed massage therapist and nail technician as well and could do spa work to tide me over if necessary.

You re right, it s definitely a buyer s market right now. With the skills you mentioned you should be able to find work just fine. Your husband may have a little harder time. Check out indeed.com. It consolidates all the job postings in the area to one site. Good Luck!

Not looking good for you to move. I only recommend to move for someone who has a concrete offer in writing for a job or someone who is retired. The job market here is at it s lowest and quite frankly I see it going even lower. Visitors who come want the cheapest vacation possible. They aren t spending money like they use to. No money spent equals no jobs available. Spa s have been hit big time as they are used by the higher end spenders who just aren t coming. Might be worth reading this webpage.

It would be wise of you to look now, at least to see what is available. Being a Calif resident, I can only suggest that you do the same as I do and look at the State and Counties websites for openings, besides the usual Monster, Careerbuilder, etc........hope you like hot summers :]

You want to move to this uber ****hole? Why? What do you like about the Vegas areas around the strip, staring at homeless people and being robbed? I would move out in a second if I didn t have a high paying job here.

Employment is the pitts. 14% unemployment and growing. Cities, county and State are laying off people. NOT the time to move to Vegas

How do I get into Gettysburg Battlefield at night? -

From what I am aware it closes at 7pm but I want to go at night and don t want to take a stupid tour. Anyone ever done this?

You can be arrested and prosecuted for trespassing. Is that really worth it?

Do you really want to put yourself in jeopardy? Risking injury is just plain dumb. Anyone trespassing on Federal Park Property will be fined at least and jailed at the worst. A simple stay out after dark, should be sufficient. Here s a link:http://www.nps.gov/gett/planyourvisit/ho

Just walk in and if you respect the ghosts then they ll respect you and let you walk out w/o any NPS interference

Whats the most secluded place in the US to take a vacation? Any state? -

The Brooks range, Alaska, away from the National parks

Alaska is good but very cold. I recently did a 2 week rafting trip down the Grand Canyon. Camping every night. Floating on the river every day. Hiking every now and then. Cell phone doesn t work. No electricity. No running water (except the river.) You do have to go with a group and you have to book it a year in advance. I recommend the company I went with, Arizona Raft Adventures. It was fantastic.

New york state- the adirondacksa private property with private cabins is really secluded.

Denali National Park in Alaska.

The wilds of Alaska. many places you have to be flown in to and flown out again.

what kind of weather are you looking for?
