Anyone been to a Detroit Red Wings game? -

I live in Ontario, Canada and HATE the Leafs. My team is from the West, the Vancouver Canucks. Anyway, my husband bought us hockey tickets to the Detroit Red Wings vs. Vancouver Canucks game for March 3, 2010 as a birthday present for me, but he s now telling me that his work friends (who just went to the Detroit vs. Anaheim game this weekend) are saying it s not such a great idea to cheer on Vancouver while I m there, or to wear a jersey, or even acknowledge that I m a fan of anyone but the Detroit Red Wings, otherwise I m going to get threats, or beaten up, sworn at, or shot.Anyone know if Detroit fans are really as violent as my husband s friends are making them out to be, do they really act like that towards fans of the visiting team, or will it be okay to cheer on my team?

You will have no problems cheering on the canucks or wearing a jersey. Redwing fans are the best no matter who you are cheering for. Been to many games and have sat by people with other team jerseys and never hear or see a problem.

NOOOO, that information is way off. Youll be fine- go ahead and wear your jersey and root on for your team. Thats only true if you open your mouth and try to talk trash about the wings- then youll have some drunk fans get a bit hostile which is unfortunate, but dont worry about it (especially with your husband there- they dont usually bother the ladies in any case). My buddy went wearing an Avs jersey (there huge rival) and didnt have any issues. Enjoy, and GO WINGS!!

The things his friends said are entirely untrue. Wear your jersey, paint your face, get excited! Nobody likes a heckler, but don t be ashamed to root for your team. People in Detroit are very friendly, and although loyal, aren t going to start a fight with you because you aren t from the area. Red Wings games are a great time. Don t worry about it for a second!

Lol. Wow. About the most violence you would come across wearing an opposing teams jersey is about what you would expect out of the same at your teams home games. You ll be fine. About the only thing you might get is some nasty comments or a evil glare or two from of the drunks. Go ahead and cheer on your team. Be warned, Wings are pretty awesome. lol

I think you will find most Red Wing fans are TRUE hockey fans and will not give you a hard time.Come down and cheer your team (but don t be disrespectful of the Wings!) and you will have a great time. While your here, stay in one of the downtown hotels and spend a lot of money! Our economy needs all the help it can get!

Oh my god. That s crap. The games are really fun, and Detroit is not like that. If you cheer on your home town Red Wings fan might BOO you, but nothing violent. The games are so much fun!

If anybody gives you any grief about the Canucks jersey, tell them to TRY to take it off of you. But check the teams standings first. If the playoff race is tight by then, look out.

lololol no, no at all. If you talk **** about the Wings the whole game, you or your husband might end up catching a beer or two by the end of the night lol.

that is the dunbest thing ive ever heard. your husbands friends are ignorant. maybe they get threatened because they act like idiots.

Not true, at all! You will be fine. Cheer for your team.Go Wings! :-)

I was in a sports bar in Chicago the night of a Redwings/Blackhawks game, and I was wearing a Wings jersey. Someone told me that it might not be such a good idea to wear that jersey in a Chicago bar when the Chicago team was playing. It was just a good-natured ribbing, and just as good-naturedly, I responded that I d like to see anyone try to take it off me. Nobody really meant anything serious by it, and we all enjoyed the game while we were drinking, me cheering for Detroit while several others cheered for Chicago. (And even some of the Chicago people cheering for the Wings.)Wings fans in Detroit are loyal and vocal, and you might get teased about cheering for the visiting team, but hockey fans are HOCKEY fans, regardless of team. Nobody in Detroit is going to threaten you about supporting your team, and for damned sure won t be beating you up for it.ENJOY the game, don t just sit in silence.(At least WIngs fans don t riot and tear up the streets when the Wings win the Stanley Cup, not like baseball fans when Detroit wins a rare World Series.)

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO i been to a redwings game nothing like that happens when i went there was a kid there from another state he was there for the basketball finals he decided to go to a wings game he got picked on but nothing mean. he was joking around to. that is all bull sh** i am so sick of people thinking people are like that in detroit. I live on the west side of the state. my son goes to redwing games alone and nothing has happened to him. ever major city has crime its not just in detroit, my best friend went to Boise Idaho and she got megged in daylight in a store parking lot. tell them to get their heads out of their A**** s we are not like that. there were people getting exited with the other team scored a goal nothing happened to them

How far and what is the time zone in wilmington? -

what time is it in wilmington right now, its 9 o clock in st.catharines ontario i just want to see what time it is and how far it is from here, i wanna see if they behind or ahead of us

North Carolina is in the same Time Zone as Ontario. According to Google Maps, that s about about 1400 KM by car (13-1/2 Hours by car via I-95) and 1100KM by air. We use the 12 hour clock here instead of the 24 hour clock.

Thats what i assumed, and there still the same time zone as you, no difference, eastern time. Its a little over 800 miles, otherwise know as 1300 kilometers, or about 13 hours drive with the time waiting at the us border and in good weather. (if your flying its just about 3 hours flight).

What is the overriding idea of this cartoon from New York Times? -

http://archives.newyorker.com/?i=2009-04when you arrive at the website, close the pop up and the picture is seen on the right you can zoom in to read it. What is the authors point?

Just a collection of obvious scams to which most people would react if it seems too good to be true, it probably is. Then the punchline is they re offered by Bernie Madoff, whose Ponzi scheme investment scam should have brought the same reaction. It s actually The New Yorker, not the New York Times, a weekly magazine which is well known for its cartoons. You may have seen the Seinfeld episode where the character Elaine submits a cartoon to the magazine. In this case, though, it s not simply a cartoon but a cover illustration for an issue that focused on the Madoff situation.

Well, first of all, it s NOT from the NY Times! It s from the New Yorker! The Times is a daily newspaper (which also has it s own magazine that comes with the Sunday edition.) The New Yorker is a news/literary/cultural magazine that come out once a week on Mondays. I subscribe to both publications, though I don t get to read the New Yorker as much as I used to. The cartoon is a parody of all the scam-like ads that you used to find in the back of magazines in the old days. It appeared on the front page of the magazine that month. I remember seeing that cover.

The New Yorker, where this cartoon is from, and the New York Times are entirely separate publications, but both NY icons. The Times is a newspaper, the other a weekly news magazine. The theme of the cartoon refers to Bernie Madoff and how people got duped into investing with him. It is a parody of ads that appear in the back of some lesser regarded publications with these over the top promises of fantastic products. Who doesn t remember X-Ray Specs?

Please pick an answer as the best answer, even if it is not mine.

Aaaaaa....that s pretty much all West Virginia is....pretty much the whole state. Your question should be where are there NOT wildlife areas, mountains, forests and wildlife areas. It is a beautiful state.
