What is Arkansas good for? -

K...... I m doing a report on Arkansas. The project is to pretend u want to move ur company to Arkansas and u have to think of a company tht would be good for Arkansas. Ex: landscaping, moving company, ect. Thanks

Arkansas would be an excellent state to locate a manufacturing company making products such as mobile homes.. Real estate is relatively cheap, there is lots of open space to build factories, taxes are low, there is a large, well educated work force, it is well located to many different transportation systems, and close to a large number of potential customers. Good luck on your project.

well i live in arkansas we do alot of farming (rice, cotten, beans ect.) we do wood working some and well just do some research on it! lol

The majority of the state is agriculture based as the previous posters pointed out, but depending on your region of the state, the environment can be very different. In Eastern and Southern Arkansas, farming, primarily cotton and rice, are dominant. In Central Arkansas, you have the Little Rock metro area which is home to a number of industries, has a large railroad presence, as well as large and growing presences of tech companies like Axciom and HP. Northern Arkansas (particularly North Central) and the Hot Springs area are very tourist friendly with lakes, springs, and lots of recreational activities, so hotels and tourism based industries thrive there. Northwestern Arkansas is a technology and business hub, home to Wal-Mart, JB Hunt, Tyson, and 300 of the Fortune 500 have major offices there, as well as a World Trade Center, so any type of merchandising, marketing, technology, or sustainability research company tend to be centered out of that metro area. There are also large colleges or universities in Northwest Arkansas, Northeast Arkansas, and Central Arkansas, so higher education related businesses succeed there.

How to get more Asians in Miami? -

Miami is a major global city, it s one of the most important cities, and it s the leader or if not the leader, the top three in everything. There s many Whites (Little Moscow, which is an area that is mostly Russian), many Blacks (Little Haiti, which is a area that is mostly Haitian), many Latinos (Little Havana, which is an area that is mostly Cubans). NYC, L.A which are also major cities also have areas like that (Spanish Harlem, Little Italy), but also have Asian areas (Chinatown). In Miami, there s asians, but not as large as NYC and L.A. There isn t a Chinatown or anything like that. I wanted to know if there s any way to have more asians to live in Miami. It would be the smartest thing for asians to move Miami (Miami is the only place in South Florida that has anything city, and the only place that anything city works and that things like Chinatown can exist) because if they open a restaurant or any type of store, they would be an instant success story. There aren t many, so Miamians would go crazy and all the asians would make so much money. I want some actual answers, not some immature answers, or Miami hate answers. So to summarize the question, how to have more asians in Miami? what can the people do to have more here, word of mouth, etc. Please and thank you, and your answers will be highly appreciated.

Ummm what most these people said is untrue and incorrect. For one, yes Miami was never huge on Asians in the beginning, BUT as it has been documented and as Miamians that pay attention, since years ago, a lot of Asians have moved to Miami and still live here to this day, and more and more keep coming as time goes by. There s even an unofficial Chinatown in North Miami Beach, now even though it s not a real Chinatown, it s a big and good start for a city (even though it s not Miami, but all of Miami-Dade County is considered to be part of Miami) that was never big on Asians. Like I said, more and more Asians keep coming to Miami and for good reason, there aren t many Asians here, if they come here and open up authentic shops, like the NYC Chinatowns and Californias, they will very sucessful in a short amount of time. Second, to the person that mentioned Broward County, Broward could be 90 Asian and there still wouldn t be a Chinatown or Koreatown or anything of that sort because of how Broward County is, it s all suburbs, nothing city or urban, it s made and meant to be all quiet and slow, suburbs, and nothing going, and just stores like Starbucks, extremely expensive, mostly white population, and so on and so on, everything that cities (Miami, NYC) are not. And I have to disagree with what that girl said, yes Miami before was not important in certain things, but like someone said, Miami is a city that things can change in a day, and Miami now is very important, and grows and becomes better and bigger every single day. Like I mentioned before since many years ago, more and more asians came to Miami, and more and more keep coming as time goes by, it s only a matter of time before we see an official Chinatown, Koreatown, Little Tokyo, etc in Miami. It would be the smartes thing for asians to come to Miami, theres already so many in NYC and Cali, if you go there you will have so much competition and arent guaranteed success, but in Miami, there isnt any competition and theres so many people here that want at least a Chinatown and will support you. You are guaranteed succeess. I could write more, but I doubt me wrting this on Yahoo Answers is going to have such a huge impact. But if any asians are reading this, MOVE to Miami, any place in Miami-Dade County, but Miami preferable because Miami is an actual city, and unlike North Miami Beach which is suburbs, you can actual open shops and be successful. The Chinatown in north miami beach is a plaza , which makes it hidden, and it s not good or success and not a real Chinatown. It s better to go to the city of Miami.

sweetie just no .. i live in miami and i BARELY see asians and it should stay that way. miami is basically hispanics and Haitians (but mostly hispanics)go take over new york or some other city but you will never change the fact that miami is overall hispanics

They re scattered. Most of them are in the West Coast (California) for the obvious reasons.

So to summarize the question, how to have more asians in Miami? There are plenty of Asians in Miami (And Broward County) including a number who immigrated from Latin America the Caribbean. But there is no concentration that can be labeled Chinatown. All of the cities I know of that have identifiable Chinatowns are either in the far west where there was huge Chinese immigration in the 19th century or are a lot older than Miami. Miami practically did not exist before the automobile. It is one of first great Automobile Cities there was no reason for any immigrant group arriving after the automobile to concentrate in any one area to engage in trade commerce with itself. In short: There was no housing discrimination in Miami to force Asians into a certain area all those who arrived after about 1920 had cars.

asians like anybody else move to a city because they like it or because of opportunity. there are plenty of chinese rest. in this city i have noticed not one korean which i love. i think there are a lot in Ca since the proximity to the east from there and in NY because of the ports as well. i think asians are not attracted to this climate and culture either. there are many factors involved maybe they like good public transportation which is not available here. bottom line is you just cant wish them to be here they have to be attracted to the area and they just are not! i dont blame them. Miami is nothing like NYC or LA, very different value system. i love this city but definitely not because of the people that live here. oh and the economy here is nothing short of awful. we rely on tourism!BTW Miami is not an important city financially in the US, nor in education, nor in transportation. this is a sin city, people come here to party and let loose and enjoy the warm weather while it is 20 degrees elsewhere. it is a hub with latin america but does not play an important role in US economy. there are many more asians living and working in orlando.

Is dipping popular in the deep south? -

I assume that it is, but the few people I know who dip are transplants, from the midwest. (I think younger people are becoming generally more savvy about the perils of cancer, even from dipping -- so I think/hope it s on a decline.)

not everybody in the south does tobacco, there are some people in every part of the country that deeps.

Skoal is the Bomb.

How long would it take to drive from new york to south california? -

how long would it take if i drove for 17 hours straight every day, using the other seven hours to eat and sleep, and what would the quickest route be?

If you drive like I do around 72 to 80 hours If you drive like more normal people then 90 to 100 hoursNormally the fastest route is I-80W to I-15S b/c you will go thru very few cities and very few mountainsThe reason that I say normally is b/c this time of year weather up by the Lakes and then across the Plains can be a deal breaking issuePlan B would be I-78W I81S I-40W I-15 S-

Question about NYC...? -

When you taking a taxi does it matter how you say, the cross streets, like 44th and 6th ave or 6th ave and 44th ? thanks.

It s customary to say the street first and then the avenue, like 42nd and 3rd. BUT if the avenue name is not a number, like Lexington, then it s customary to say the avenue name before the street name. Take, for example, Lexington and 42nd. Hope that helps!

well, the vernacular is cross street, then avenue. 57th 3rd, 34th lexington. the only real issue are the low numbered streets downtown.

does not matterEX.If I were too say Crosstreets Pandora St and 67th Ave or 67th Ave and Pandora St does not matter.Think of it as multipcation 4*5 is 20 5*4 is 20does not matter

Either way will do.Good luck

It doesn t matter at all. Just let him understand u. Good luck!

How often is Highway 50 closed going from Sacramento to South Lake Tahoe, CA? -

We are going to Tahoe this weekend but we can t leave until tomorrow morning because my husband has to work tonight till midnight. I know there is a storm coming in tomorrow and they are calling for ridge gusts up to 100 MPH. I have chains but I am worried about them closing the roads anyway. Also how likely are the winds over Echo Summit to blow the van around? That hill looks scary when its sunny outside!

It really does not close all that often, that said they will hold traffic for avalanche control if the snow gets too heavy.Right now there are chain controls from Twin Bridges to Myers, which is not that far. This is supposed to be a warm storm so the snow level should remain above 5000 or so.Here is a link to Caltrans to get updated road information.http://www.dot.ca.gov/cgi-bin/roads.cgiYou can also call 1-800-427-7623 and get the same information. It is a pretty hairy drive going over the summit, just take your time and watch out for other idiots and you will be just fine.

Great I am glad to hear you had a safe trip Report Abuse

I hate this drive in the bad weather. Good luck to you. Take your time. I have been there when the road is closed and had to wait in line for it to open. Glad we were in our motorhome. Comfortable wait. If they close the roads, the CHP is anxious to get them back open when it is safe. Cal Trans has a road info hotline: 1-800.427.7623

I won t repeat the same info the others have already given, but there is really only 2 sections of that road I d imagine you would be nervous around generally, and they are both short lived. Just take it slow and enjoy the drive!

What are the disadvantages of hotels? -

high cost.

Well, for one, they cost money. The good hotels cost alot, and the bad ones have their own list of disadvantages.Second, any bed other than your own tends to be less comfortable. Regardless of weather it s a hotel or not.Third, not all of them serve food, and in the ones who do, there s no guarentee it s good food.Fourth, Bed covers. Ultraviolet light. I m not gonna go into any more detail than that because it s gross. (And for the record, in bad hotels, it s not just the bed covers). But personally I think those are all minor considering the pluses that most good hotels have.

A big downside of hotels?? Thanks to all of the unchecked visitors (legal and illegal) to the US, we have seen a resurgence of bedbugs........

Usually cheap ones are dumps and good ones are expensive.

Hotels might suck were ever u go. The gist of it is, good hotels are expensive and nice, bad hotels cost like 30 bucks and have bugs and drippy toilets

well, you dont know how many people have spooged in the bed before you slept in it.

everything

Los Angeles, California: please help if u live there or have been there? -

i am planning on getting tickets to the 2010 peoples choice awards that is in january. i live in Georgia, and ive never been to California, so i was wondering if u could give me the names or websites to some hotels around that area that have good prices. i dont want anything too expensive. im planning on arriving january 5 and staying for a week [till the 12th] if i can. any info will help. it will be for two ppl [me and my mom]. also any other info that might help me will be greatly appreciated! (:

Contact the venue and ask them your question. They have people in place to help you.http://www.nokiatheatrelalive.com/ There are many hotels in that area. And please be more specific when asking questions like this. We do not know what too expensive is for you. That will differ from person to person.Keep in mind you are coming here during the week of the NCAA National Championship Football game. So most hotels will inflate their prices for this event. This year that game is on the 7th.

Ash, the show is at the Nokia Theater (at the back end of LALive and across the street from Staples Center downtown....If you are going to be there a week there is no way you should stay downtown just because that s where you ll be one night....There is more action in West Hollywood. See if you can find your hotel price there...

I hope you are traveling with a parent, or someone over 21. Hotels CANNOT rent to a 16 year old. Minors can t legally enter into contracts, and a hotel rental agreement is a form of contract. Plan on most hotels in that area to be at least $100 a night or more.

I live in LA, the best hotels will be in beverly hills, hollywood, santa monica, downtown los angeles, westhollywood, lax, hotels such as hyatt, best western, hollywood inn, etc.

I was in LA this year and booked all my travel through www.expedia.com and got great prices... I did come over there from New Zealand though so there are probably some better local websites for you to use but i found expedia cheap easy to use

We see this every day in this forum: Everyone who wants to visit here is looking for cheap/affordable and safe . However, such a place just doesnt exist; the two terms are mutually exclusive. It s all about supply and demand: If it s in SoCal, then it s not going to be cheap to begin with. If it s a safe area, then it s more expensive. An average hotel room runs $125 per night. The best site to use IMHO is tripadvisor.com, because it allows you to compare prices between travel sites. As Perro said, this is going to be a BUSY week on the LA area, since the national championship game is going to be held that week. Prices for hotels are up, and many are already booked solid. I m not a big fan of staying downtown. Since LA is so spread out, there is no single place that is close to EVERYTHING. Most people who come here tend to stay in Hollywood, Santa Monica, or Anaheim. In Hollywood, I recommend the Orchid Suites, Hollywood Celebrity Hotel, or Holiday Inn Walk of Fame, all near Hollywood and Highland. (One of those would probably be best for you-- You can take the Red Line Subway to downtown to get to the Nokia Theater). Another one is the Best Western Sunset Plaza. In Santa Monica, the Holiday Inn Santa Monica is close to the pier and reasonably priced. In Anaheim, I recommend the Howard Johnson (HoJo) Anaheim, and the Candy Cane Inn. There is also a nice place in Burbank called the Best Western Media Center, very close to Warner, NBC, and Universal Studios.

In which hotel to stay; San Diego? -

Hi everybody..I ve got a few days off around the new year and i m thinking of going to San Diego..I havent been to the city before.. i ve been browsing different locations/beaches and i cant decide..I am looking for a beautiful beach (white sand, clear water, volly ball.. etc) and at the same time close to the other activities (sea world.. downtown.. etc)..anybody been there and can help? or prob a city native? :)BTW: is the timing ok.. i mean can i swim if i go around the new year?thanks in advance..

1. Hotel Del Coronado, Coronado 2. Catamaran Hotel, Mission Bay ( This one is not on the ocean but is very nice. It is on the bay)3. Best Western Blue Sea Lodge Pacific Beach4. Pacific Terrace Inn Pacific BeachNew Years the water temperature is too cold for swimming.

I ll keep it short and sweet. your a Dr. so you can afford a good hotel:Hotel Solomar (Downtown)HiltonOmniHotel Del (Beach)or if you have any military ties try the navy lodge over by NAS north island, its a private beachand beautiful that is right beside a golf course!!anyway the water is cold but you can get a wet suit at a reasonable price and rent a board in la Jolla shores!!

I would suggest looking at hotels around Mission Bay. The Bahia is very nice. Ocean water is too cold for swimming at that time of year.Hotel Del Coronado is also very nice but you have to cross the bridge each time you want to go to the city. Traffic can be a problem.Enjoy your trip!

I used to live in San Diego, and I visit my family there two or three times a year. A really nice place to stay, right on the beach, is The Best Western Blue Sea. It has a pool for you to swim in - the ocean will be very cold that time of year.

Hotel For Dogs. Just Kidding, I have no idea where that movie was.

oh what about Hilton Hotel !

There are lots of great hotels in San Diego. The ocean will probably be too cold for swimming on New Year s....I d recommend a nice hotel near the beach with an outdoor jacuzzi for that time of the year.I always love Pacific Terrace...it s located right on the beach in Pacific Beach. It can be pricey, but sometimes they have specials. Check their website. The hotels in Mission Bay are centrally located for different activities. It s right off the freeway. San Diego Hilton Resort has lots of rooms overlooking the bay. I ve stayed there several times and always enjoyed it. Some of the rooms have their own private fire rings outside their rooms....perfect for a private bonfire. If you love partying at nightclubs, you might think of staying in the Gaslamp Quarter so you can walk to the clubs without worrying about parking and driving. For specific ideas on great places to stay visit http://www.sandiego-romantics.com.Have fun!

You first must know this: ITS COLD THERE IN JANUARY.The beaches in San Diego don t have white sand or clear water. You also cannot drink on the beach thanks to some frat boys from the Univ. or Ariz. San Diego is NOT a tropical destination, its a high desert, all that green and palms you see there are just good landscaping and a waste of much needed water It is also overcast at the beach most of the time, there is something called a marine layer of clouds that only hangs over the beach. . All the sewage from Baja gets dumped out into the Pacific and so does all the street runoff from the city. In January the rainy season starts and it will be probably 55 degrees at the beach (during the day) and the water will be probably about the same temperature. Forget about swimming. The wind from the ocean will make you want to put on a scarf and gloves, and NO ONE will be playing volleyball. Hotels/motel if you do go: Cheapest and closest to the beach and freeways- Premier Inns. I don t know how cheap you want, but this place was like $50 a night when I first got into town, very comfy beds, no better or worse than the Comfort Inn next door or any of the places in Hotel Circle and their was a free continental breakfast. Honestly.....I would suggest Miami or Florida s Gulf Coast (Clearwater, Fort Myers, St. Pete. etc.) The water will be warmer along with the temp and the beaches are much more beautiful and cleaner (cheaper too), no cliffs like in SD, but still gorgeous.
