Anything to do in NYC? -

so me, my mom, her friend, and my friend are going to NYC for christmas/my birthday. is there any suggestions as to places we can go as recreations/amusement? we re not going there as tourists, but just like a place to hang out. so is there anyplace fun to do there? ex: Coney Island (if its still open then)

Go visit the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, two landmarks of New York City. To get there by the ferry, you need to purchase round-trip ferry tickets at Castle Clinton National Monument in Lower Manhattan. Ferries from New York operate on a loop, stopping first at Liberty Island and then at Ellis Island before returning to Battery Park, New York.Directions to get the ferry dock:http://www.nps.gov/stli/planyourvisit/puGo visit the Empire State Building, one of the many landmarks of our city. It is located at 350 5th Avenue. To get there by MTA subway, take the 1, 2, or 3 (Seventh Avenue Lines), A, C or E (Eighth Avenue Subway) to 34th Street/Penn Station. Or take the B, D, F, N, Q, R or Path to 34th Street/Avenue of the Americas.Go walk across the Brooklyn Bridge, which is, if I m correct, which I might not be, is the oldest structure in the city. If not the oldest structure, the oldest bridge. To get there, and walk across it, take the 4, 5, or 6 to the Brooklyn Bridge/City Hall stop. Another option would be to take the J, M, or Z to Chambers Street.Go visit Coney Island, the home of the world famous Cyclone roller coaster. The amusement park will be closed, especially in the winter time, but the aquarium is open year-round, and sometimes the pier is open, so you can get some snacks -- they have fantastic corn dogs on the pier. To get there by train, take the D, Q N or F train to Stillwell Avenue, which is the last stop. This takes about 45 minutes from midtown Manhattan, and sometimes longer, depending on where you are coming from.Go for a ride on the Circle Line. There are numerous different cruises C one is the Full Island Cruise, which takes you around Manhattan on a three-hour cruise. The Semi-Circle Cruise sets sail on a two-hour cruise down the Hudson offering a stunning panoramic of the famed New York skyline and a close-up view of Lady Liberty. The Liberty Cruise turns 75-minutes into a quick and inspirational way to see New Yorks highlights from the water. There is also a Harbor Lights Evening Cruise, which allows you to view the hotspots of New York City from the water at night. Then, there is The Beast. Its a boat that travels at forty-five miles per hour down the river to the Statue of Liberty. Both cruises are fun and informational, and are a great way to kill some time if you dont have anything to do.Here is the Circle Line schedule:http://www.circleline42.com/site/schedulCircle Line special events:http://www.circleline42.com/site/browse.Go to visit some museums. There are so many, that listing directions to all of them would be a waste of your time and my time, so instead, I will give you a list where there is a list of all the museums of New York City. You can pick some that sound interesting, and then you can find directions to that place, either from the website, or from Google, simply by typing in directions to and insert the museum you would like to go to beside it. why is early corpus christi history significant in early American history

I would put this under Homework Help or History as this is for US travel.

How to I get from San Jose to Sacramento without a car, plane, or Amtrak? -

Amtrak is having blackout on the days that I need to get to Sacramento. I cannot afford a plane ticket and I do not have a car. I have no idea what I should do.

Your best option as far as safety and cost is Greyhound. No reservations are necessary when you travel with Greyhound. If you know the departure schedule, simply arrive at the terminal at least an hour before departure to purchase your ticket. Boarding generally begins 15 to 30 minutes before departure. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. Advance purchase tickets do not guarantee a seat. When Greyhound fills a regularly scheduled bus with passengers during times of peak demand, Greyhound plans for additional buses to accommodate passengers beyond the seating capacity of a single bus for any given schedule. However, our ability to add extra sections depends on the availability of buses, drivers and the number of passengers. When picking up passengers en route (such as at a rest stop), continuing passengers who de-boarded at the rest stop are given priority to re-board.Greyhound buses travel around the clock, so you can travel by day and enjoy the scenery through wide panoramic windows. Or, select a night service, and relax in a reclining seat with reduced interior lighting. Most buses make intermediate stops to pick up additional passengers en route to their destinations. In addition to stops en route, buses make rest stops every few hours, and meal stops are scheduled as close to normal meal times as possible. If you prefer not to travel on a bus that includes multiple stops en route, be sure to ask your ticket agent about our express schedules, which are available on select routes.Departures for tomorrow as an example:Select Departure Schedule for Sunday, December 13, 2009Select Departs Arrives Duration Transfers Carrier Schedule- 11:20am 03:10pm 3h, 50m 1 GLI 6774- 04:30pm 08:10pm 3h, 40m 1 GLI 6742- 05:05pm 10:50pm 5h, 45m 1 GLI 677011:25pm 03:00am 3h, 35m 1 GLI 6766Here are the fares- One WayNon-refundableWeb only fares. Adult$29.50 $29.50 Go here to purchase a ticket online:http://www.greyhound.com/home/ticketcentAlso if you want to know what are some good foods to take on a bus:http://www.examiner.com/examiner/x-29058

Amtrak runs multiple trips daily between San Jose and Sacramento. The trains do not sell out. Take Amtrak! If you have some sort of promotional ticket with blackout dates, just use the tickets another time.If that does not work for you, another option is to take the ACE train from San Jose to Stockton, then transfer to an Amtrak train that runs from Stockton to Sacramento. This takes more time and probably costs more money, too. See http://www.acerail.com and http://www.amtrak.com for details.

What do you mean Blackout ? The train runs daily to Sacramento from San Jose,Just pay the full fare and use your Blackout tickets for another time. The Greyhound goes to quite a few places in Sacramento so call Greyhound and ask them and then take the light rail system in Sacramento to get you around.edit: Just was in Sacramento Dec 15 and I drove right behind a Greyhound bus and past the Greyhound station

You seem to be *extremely* mistaken. I looked at Greyhound, and there are FIVE buses each day from San Jose to Sacramento.

A few options:Bus or CalTranTaxiHitchhike?Airport ShuttlePay a friend who is willing to make the tripIf you have a driver s license, rent a car

Take you a bus there. I hear the that bus tickets are not that bad.

go by foot, bike, hitchike

take a cab, bike, walk, hitch hike lol

Need romantic spots to show my man a good time in Oahu Hi. Not tourists, but new to the area amp; on budget...? -

We re from Boston. I moved here to be close to my mom and am hoping to convince him that hawaii is his home (or at least that I am). Don t want to get him crazed with big touristic bills but want to show him paradise... views he s never seen... places to be merry and realize what we have... Wouldn t mind a few hot spots. When I say hot spots I mean... beaches pools with great views along with other cool people to mingle with while sipping tropical beverages, not clubs.

First, don t forget to have a decent digital camera so you can take photos and remind him of the wonderful time he had afterwards ;-) !!* One location right out of Tahiti or Bora Bora is Haiku Gardens, probably the most beautiful tropical setting in Oahu. Under the Koolau Mountains in Kaneohe. The restaurant has been there forever (since the 60 s) has changed multiple times from privately-owned to Chart House to currently Haleiwa Joe s which is not expensive. Food is above average , you re going for the setting...http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/zlTf4mD9k* Expensive breakfasts are cheaper than lunch or dinner. For a knock-out breakfast, the buffet at the Plumeria Beach House is pricey ($30 buffet breakfast) but the 100% kona coffee, fresh fruit, cook-to-order omelettes right on the beach at the Kahala Resort is total class. Free valet parking.* If you want to select one dinner that is slightly more $$$, for romance I would choose the Hau Tree Lanai, at the Kaimana Beach Resort, just east of Kapiolani Park. The terrace dates from the early 20th century, you eat under the same hau trees that famous poet Robert Louis Stevenson sat under when the original mansion stood here.http://www.kaimana.com/dining.htm* For casual breakfast (weekends only), try the Waioli Restaurant in Manoa Valley, on Manoa road, about where Oahu intersects Manoa Road (not EAST Manoa road), adjacent to the Salvation Army camp. You eat outside on the patio, at the beginning of the rain forest that backs Manoa Valley, about $8 per person.* Speaking of Manoa Valley, are you into hiking? Manoa Falls at the end of Manoa Road is a short hike through the rain forest (including a bamboo forest). If you like to hike, Maunawilli Falls in the back of Kailua is a more strenuous (you have to hike through the stream at least 4 times) to a hidden tropical pool-and-falls where you can jump in the water, surrounded by giant ferns. Really, right out of a South Seas movie...http://www.hawaiiweb.com/html/hiking/man* You can buy him (and yourself!) a lei! Visit Mauna Kea Street, next to chinatown, mauka from King Street. The street is famous for the dozens of small florists that string their own leis, orchid dendrobium leis start as little as $4. In any case, some of the leis are worth looking at, are small works of art in themselves.http://www.cindysleishoppe.com/* Agree with the other respondent that the view from Nuuani Pali Point lookout is spectacular. From downtown Honolulu, take the Pali Highway towards Kailua. GET OFF on Old Pali Road, which meanders through a small rain forest then connects back up to the Pali Highway before you get to the lookout itself.* Snorkeling in the coral reefs of the submerged caldera Hanauma Bay, and pointing out spotted tropical fish to each other is wonderful. Arrive early before the tourists both scare away the moray eels and sea turtles, and kick up the sand and cloud the water (and also so you can get a parking space!). You can rent equipment from a concesssion on the beach. If you buy a disposable camera for under-water pics, note they will come out very bluish, unless you have a decent flash.* Don t forget about the beauty of Hawaiian music and Hawaiian dance (the hula). You can go for drinks (food is very expensive) at Chai s Island Bistro at the Aloha tower. On Saturday nights, Danny Couch sings, famous for the (unofficial) state song of Hawaii. Also look for concerts from Keali i Reichel, they are great.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xOLo9-gSx* You can buy him a Hawaiian keepsake from Na Hoku, the big island jewelers. Prices are reasonable if you stay away from gold...http://www.nahoku.com/NaHoku/MensJewelryYou should show him the touristic side of Waikiki on a Friday night, and there is a (free) dance show from legitimate hula schools (called halaus) 3-4 times a week next to Duke s statue. On Fridays, the Hilton Hawaiian Village has free fireworks on the beach at about 8PM.

Aloha! how lucky to live in HI I m so jealous! = try the following:Drive up the Pali lookout - free - historic site with amazing views Hike Diamond Head Crater - $5 and amazing viewsValley of Temples - $5 gorgeous Boyodo-in-Temple amid rainforest dramatic cliffsLanikai Beach - voted most beautiful in the countryWaimea Valley Falls - believe free or very cheap - and very beautifulWaimea Bay on the N shore - amazing tide pools, and great surf views, watch the prosSnorkel Hanauma Bay - $5 best snorkeling on OahuAlso try snorkel or kyak at Kalua BeachHike to the Makapuu Lighthouse - great views, good whale watchingHalona Blowhole - fun spot and great whale watching, close to Sandy Beach for body surfing!Lyon Arboretum - inexpensive and so pretty!Pearl Harbor - USS Arizona Memorial - free and a huge part of Oahu historyWaikiki Beach - yup its touristy but amazing location, great people watching just lots of funLots and lots of free museums galleriesChina Town - awesome place to site see, buy fresh flowers, fruit, fishDuke s - great place to get a drink watch the sunsettons more to choose from, this is just a start
