Is it long distance if you live in Illinois and you call Kansas and your phone company is Cricket? -
Thoughts on Lousiana? -
In a nutshell, New Orleans is a City while Lafayette is a medium size town with some sprawl. New Orleans consequently has more urban problems than Lafayette. New Orleans has also been politically dominaed by Marion Barry type administrations for the past 3 decades - though it appears we will mostly finish throwing off that yoke via the 2010 elections. At least from a distance, Lafayette has apparently been reasonably well run.New Orleans is one of the world s special places and remains so even after the devastation of Katrina in 2005. NOLA is also very tolerant of alternative lifestyles, though Lafayette (actually all of southern Louisiana) is not as conservative as most of the rest of the South. Lafayette conserves its Acadian/French ( Cajun ) culture more than New Orleans conserves its Creole/French culture.New Orleans has 5 full universities, 2 law schools, 2 medical schools, a pharmacy school, and numerous other colleges. Lafayette has the University of Louisiana. Both have airports with good connections to major hubs, and New Orleans is served by AmTrak (you could get on a train in :L.A. and get off in NOLA).I am not familiar with L.A. so can t directly compare. From my CA friends, I know New Orleans doeas not have anything like the gang problem found in L.A. There are also few celebrities living in NOLA, and the ones who do are able to live almost nortmally (no Paparazzi, etc). You should to visit both before making a decision.Good luck!
