There are many people living in New York City (as you know already =D) and most of them speak more than just English. You will probably find a lot of people who speak your language and I also feel you will develop your English quickly too. I lived in NYC for a few years and I plan to move back ASAP. I often heard people on the streets, subways, and EVERYWHERE speaking many languages. Most people do have some English though- so I do recommend taking English courses in your home country- that way you will be able to make your way around the city (although most things are presented in many different languages- it is best to know English to have the right tools for getting around.) It would probably be best to apply to and get accepted at a college in NYC before coming- most schools have resources for international students that can help with housing, language, etc. Also- there are all different kinds of jobs but make sure you know enough English to know what you re getting into. New York City is a great place- but there are also scammers and dangerous people. It s also good to have a healthy amount of money saved- as the city is VERY expensive. You can find fairly priced groceries stores and bargains too. Safe + Proper housing is usually expensive though. Be careful with research! Hope I helped!
It would be best to take some English lessons in your home country first and also when you go to college in NYC, if you still feel like you could use the help. However with that said, NYC is such a diverse city with people from all over the world, that there are many people who live there who don t speak English as their first language. So you should be just fine living and finding a job there even if your English isn t perfect.
If u take lessons, then it s going to be okay. You can also use http://www.googletranslate.com to help you with English. Don t worry it s going to be fine. And what s your first language? Good luck!
