How would we get to Manhattan from LGA using Public Transportation? -

We are arriving at LGA in the morning and were wondering whether it would be better to take the subway or the bus into the city. From there we would want to go to the Marriott downtown which is located at 85 West Street, New York City, NY 10006. I m wondering which trains and buses I should take and whether buying an unlimited metrocard would cover travel between the airport and all the neighborhoods.

Personally I would take the M-60 bus to the Astoria Blvd stop in Queens and then go upstairs and catch the downtown W to Rector StWhy?1) Astoria Blvd is the second stop on the N/W line which means that regardless of hour you are guaranteed to get a seat 2) By getting off the M-60 in Queens it saves you the trip over the Triboro Bridge into Manhattan3) Rector and Trinity is one block closer to your destination than Wall Bwy is4)If you re hungry the Neptune Diner which is basically under the Astoria Blvd subway stop is a good place to get a bite to eatAs far as unlimited MetroCards go Yes by all means get one b/c they offer an incredible value if you intend to explore this city at allJust so you know :The Hudson Newsstands in LGA sell $4.50 MetroCards ,they have locations upstairs and in the gate areas So make sure that you have a MetroCard in your possession before heading downstairs to catch the M-60NYC buses also take CHANGE But not bills So tossing a roll of quarters in your luggage isn t a bad idea$2.25 buys you 1 ride+1 transferEnjoy NYC

The unlimited card is a great idea. There are a number of buses at LaGuardia that connect with the Subway. Best way I can see is to take the Q33 Bus at the airport to 74th St-Broadway. Take the Subway there. Get on the E line and go Chambers St/World Trade Center. (It s the last stop.) Get off and walk a block west on Chambers St. to West Broadway. Take the M20 Bus on Chambers St. Take it to South End Ave and Rector St and walk a block east to the Hotel on West St. Even though it is not a long way, you really need to take the M20 bus. The M22 bus does not go there. There is a lot of traffic in this area and some of it is restricted due to the proximity to ground zero.

Metrocard is always a good idea and works out to $4 per day for a ($27) 7-day card.http://www.mta.info/metrocard/mcgtreng.hUnfortunately, the Marriott at 85 West Street does not provide shuttle service.http://411newyork.org/guide/2008/01/27/nThe W, R, 1, 4 and 5 are trains that stop nearby the Marriott so from the airport, you could take the M60 Bus and transfer to the 4 train at 125 Street/Lexington Station and ride the 4 train to the Wall Street Station where you can then exit and have a short walk to the hotel.M60 - http://www.mta.info/nyct/bus/schedule/ma4 http://www.mta.info/nyct/service/fourlinHave a safe and wonderful time in New York.Stevehttp://411newyork.org

Yes buying an unlimited metro card would do the trick, you can take the m60 bus into Manhattan directly from LGA, the E train will take you right into the World Trade Center site, which is quite close to West street, and the Marriott should be visible from there. I would recommend buying a weekly or longer metro card depending on how long you are staying. It comes in quite handy in NYC.

Do you really want to drag your luggage on a bus or train, and then through the streets of Manhattan? You can take a taxi from LaGuardia into midtown Manhattan for $25. It s worth every penny.

take the ny airport service bus, they have a special http://www.nyairportservice.com/

Maybe you can take B60(?) bus to Manhattan you should check it again in the bus map

Purchase the unlimited ride MetroCard, you will save a lot of money riding the subway and subway system in the city. I highly recommend it.The unlimited ride card ranges from $8.25 for the 1-day pass, to $89 for a 30-day pass. However, if you re staying in town for a week or two, I would recommend purchasing a 7-day or 14-day unlimited ride MetroCard. The 7-day unlimited ride card will cost you $27 and the 14-day card will cost $51.50 per person. Please note, the unlimited ride card can not be shared, it has to be purchased individually. In regards to how to get from LGA to 85 West Street in Lower Manhattan, here are the travel directions.Step 1: after purchase your unlimited ride MetroCard, take the take the M60 bus from the airport to the Astoria Blvd subway station.Step 2: at the Astoria Blvd subway station, transfer to the Manhattan-bound (westbound) W subway lines (Yellow Line on the subway map). Take the W train from Astoria Blvd to Rector Street. The transfer between the bus and the subway at the Astoria Blvd subway station is free.Step 3: at Rector Street, exit the subway and following the walking direction at the link below.http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d source=sPlease note, W train only operates during the week (Mondays to Friday). If you re traveling on the weekends, you will need to take N train to Rector Street.I hope this information is very helpful.Good luck happy holidaysNative New Yorker

Where do you go to get a birth certificate if you live in mississippi? -

You get a birth certificate from the office of vital records in your state.

It depends on which state you were born in, not where you live. Many states have a department that handles the request, while in some states in the Northeast it s actually handled by the town or city where you were born.Below is the CDC website which shows you how to order birth certificates as well as death certificates, marriage licenses, and divorce decrees from each US state and territory. It also includes the costs and any documentation that may be necessary.http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/w2w.htm

What is the job market in Boston like? -

Wondering if its just as bad as everywhere else? My friend is temping around the boston area, his family lives in a suburb, and he wants me to possibly come up from NJ and get an apt and temp with him. My concerns are that boston is too expensive to live in and around on just a temp job making $12 an hour especially if you dont know if your actually going to get any work.

Boston is EXTREMELY expensive to live in. Even places that are just on the outskirts of Boston charge an obscene amount of money. In Woburn, which is like 20 mins from Boston, you will be able to find a studio apartment the size of a closet for about $800 a month- no less. For a good sized two or one bedroom apartment you are looking in the range of $950 - $1500 a month WITHOUT utilities. Boston is a very very very expensive place to live in- it is not affordable with a $12 an hour salary.

That doesn t sound like a good plan; find the job first. look on Monster.com, etc. to get a feel for your area of (work) interest in Boston.

In the evenings is there anything to do in the jewish parts of new york such as williamsburg and boro park? -

yes, you may walk to the store to buy some nice bread.

Those neighborhoods are not just Jewish, they are orthodox and even Hassadic. You should contact a shul in the area and speak to someone, the rebbe perhaps.
