My grandmothers brother has cut wood for her for the winter with a permit. Can he bring it to CA from Oregon? -

He heard he couldn t through someone. He has a valid permit, but supposedly because of a bug or something he can t bring it through a station. Can he or can t he, and where did you get this answer? Please help!

If you are carrying any plants, plant products, or animals from out of state, you must stop at the Agricultural Inspection Station near the California border to declare them. Agriculture is a vital industry to California so they are trying to keep foreign insects out. They are picky about what pine products they allow in from Oregon. They are OK with things like a couple of pine wreaths, but not OK with bringing in huge trees without a certification that they are free of bugs. Firewood is not specifically mentioned as OK or not OK. A permit to cut is not the same as a certification that it is bug-free. I would suggest calling the CA Dept of Agriculture at (916) 654-0312 to get a straight answer. If they say it s allowed, ask them to send it in writing so you don t get the runaround at the inspection station.
