Trying to find a place to live, help? -

Okay, I am trying to figure out a good place to live, I am just going to name the things me and my friend want and maybe you will know of a good state and maybe even a specific town.It has to be in the US.Have the temperatures during the summer being at the highest 90 F.Snow every year. Not too expensive. Not a crowded place.Somewhere that we could afford 1 to 5 acres of land. Thanks to everyone that helps. :)

i would say virginia i live in northern virginia it snows every year, we just got 22 inches of snow where i live, last summer the high i believe was 91 degrees but that was the hottest it got. Virginias not too crowded like florida or ny. Northern virginia is expensive though not all of virginia is like that. Land is expensive in virginia you could find it easy but its probably really expensive.

Montana, South Dakota, North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, or the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. There will be times when the temps get above 90 F. It is almost impossible to find a place that does not get above 90 F in the contiguous 48.

South NJ-cheap land,4 season..if you miss big city -drive 2-3 hours and NY is there.

Trying to understand parking meter signs in NYC? -

I just moved to a new neighborhood in Queens, and am dealing with metered parking now. When a meter s sign says 2 hour parking, 8am-7pm , does that mean that after 7pm you can park there for longer than 2 hours? Or do you still have to pay the meter between the hours after 7pm and before 8am? Maybe both?Seems silly to wake up every 2 hours to feed the meter or to move your car to another one in the middle of the night!I know it probably sounds dumb, but no one here can give me a straight answer! They all say Good point, I m not sure . I tried to find the answer on the NYC parking regulations website, and even that s not clear about having to pay after the posted hours.Help! And if anyone has any parking tips (or a spot for rent) in the Elmhurst/Jackson Heights area, please please please share!

Once the regulation expires, at 7 PM, and if there are no other signs posted, it s a perfectly legal parking space for as long as you want. Always assume a legal parking space if nothing is posted. It s legal unless there s a sign posted saying otherwise.Parking signs state restrictions, not permissions. This sign states a two-hour restriction that is in effect from 8 AM to 7 PM. After that, the restriction is removed.Just have your coins ready at 8 AM, though. They ll be waiting.

By the way, what everyone else is not pointing out is that it is illegal to park in that spot for more than the posted time during the posted hours. To park there and drop coins in the expiring meter is not allowed as the meter is designed to allow for the turnover of parking spaces in order to promote business to the local stores and the convenience of the shoppers that want to buy things there. That being said, that part of the law is not usually enforced in NYC.

If the sign says 2 hour parking, 8am-7pm it means you can only park there for 2 hours between the hours of 8am and 7pm and you will have to feed the meter every 2 hours, otherwise you will get a parking ticket. If you park after 7pm and before 8am, the next day, you will be fine.Good luck

Are there any special events going on in New Orleans the weekend of January 22, 2010? -

I have a friend coming to visit and am interested in any special events happening the weekend of January 21-24th, 2010. Also, any suggestions for fun nightlife locations? Fun places to go on Bourbon Street? My friend does not eat seafood even though New Orleans is famous for it.. any suggestions for some great non-seafood dining? Thanks!

I can t think of any special events arond then, but check the paper when the dates approach:http://www.nola.com/entertainment/The Palm Court restaurant is very nice, has moderate prices, and offers traditional live jazz starting at 8:00pm: 1204 Decatur Street, tel 504-525-0200 (reservations are important and they are not open every day). The Palm Court is closed from about mid-July 25th to sometime in August each year: http://www.palmcourtjazzcafe.com/Maximo s Italian Grill has great food and atmosphere: 1117 Decatur Street in the French Quarter, (504) 586-8883. www.maximosgrill.comTujaques Restaurant (823 Decatur Street) is very traditional and has moderate prices: www.tujaguesrestaurant.comCafe Degas is a very French restaurant near City Park at 3127 Esplanade - which is not within walking distance of downtown (5 to 10 minutes by taxi). They are closed on Mondays Tuesdays (504-945-5635). www.cafedegas.comThe Napoleon House restaurant is at 500 Chartres Street in the FQ, and has a menu of great local dishes: www.napoleonhouse.comMore restaurant suggestions: http://www.10best.com/New_Orleans,LA/ResThere is always music, but the bands change: Go to www.bestofneworleans.com and click on Music then Listings or to www.offbeat.com and click on Listings, then Music. Note that music clubs often advertise No Cover , meaning there is no charge for entering. However, clubs with No Cover often require that customers buy a beverage each for every set of music (which can be every 20 minutes) so KNOW THE PRICE before you sit down. Clubs do that because some people will sit in the club all evening drinking nothing (clubs only make money from the drinks they sell - not from the music). It is also a good idea to pay for each round of drinks (in clubs on Bourbon Street) as it is delivered so there can t be any confusion at the end of the evening. An incomplete guide to bars clubs: http://www.10best.com/New_Orleans,LA/Nigwww.neworleanscheapdrinks.comAbout certain alcoholic beverages: Realize that some famous drinks are VERY potent compared with regular cocktails that have only 1 to 1 ? ounces of alcohol. For example, a Hurricane is basically 3 or 4 ounces of rum in something like red Kool-Aid, and a Hand Grenade has at least 4 ? ounces of Everclear + rum + vodka mixed with melon liquor. They dont necessarily taste like an alcoholic beverage and it is easy to over-indulge.I hope you have a great time!

NOt many festivals in january. Why don t you check out what bands are playing and also you can maybe checkout a hornets game. All restaurants have choices other than seafood. New year in las vegas? -

Yes and the fireworks are back. LV Review journal on line edition or vegas.com will give you any updates. It is wild here. Enjoy, come and see us.

I lived in LV for 6 years and I never went to the strip for NYE. Too cold, to many people and too dangerous. Not to scare anyone but last year the authorities were on alert for possible terrist attack. I rather stay safe and warm and have a party at home instead. But that s just me.

Flew into Las Vegas one year for New Years. I cannot say that it was much different from any other night in Vegas. All in all though I think it is an enjoyable place to spend the holiday.

A great place to celebrate NYE. The Strip is closed and there are fireworks at midnight, just like NY Times Square. The issue is getting your room reservation and the restaurants and shows you want before they are all booked

Fun place to be New Years Eve.

I ve lived here my whole life. New Years is crazy, crowded, and dangerous. lol.

Yes, there will be a new year in Las Vegas.

Im going to NYC tomorrow and I want to get to Canal St/Chinatown via the subway. Which subway should I get on? -

I looked at like, a hundred maps and i m extremely confused!

Before I can tell you which subway to ride, it would be helpful to know where you are starting from.

Well, that depends on what part of Manhattan you re in.If you re on the west side, you can take the A , C , E , N , R Q or W train (Blue and Orange Line on the subway map) to Canal Street. You can also take the #1 train (Red Line) to Canal Street. If you re on the east side, you can take the #6 train (Green Line) to Canal Street.I hope this information is very helpful.Good luckNative New Yorker

Funny...I guess if you are not used to the great subway system of ours, it can seem confusing. Subways run 25 hours, 7 days a week. Canal Street/Chinatown is available by many subway lines. The best one is the R, W, N, Q and 6 train because they drop you in the heart of chinatown. You can take B/D train to Grand Street or the A/C/E to Canal Street (closer to the west side). Have a great time in Chinatown! Hope this helps.www.lirr.org for subway maps.
