What form of transportation would you recommend me taking to go to Los Angeles? -

Also not trying to brag about his family but that s the truth. I would not move to a place like that without help.

I ve traveled from one coast to the other on both buses and trains, and believe me when I tell you it s way more comfortable on a train. You can get up and walk around on a train to go the lounge or cafe car, etc. The bathrooms are WAY better, the women have an extra one the men aren t even allowed to use. I think the scenery is better too as on some routes the train will go where there are no roads. I think the atmosphere is more secure and congenial on the train. I definitely would recommend Amtrak if you aren t going to fly.I hope you have an enjoyable trip!

If on eastern or middle take a plane the one i reccomend is southwest. if on western shore take a bus, train or car.

Perhaps you should mention where you are coming from!

train planes and automobiles -- you will need a car while here.

Plane, Car, Bus or Train.I m pretty sure those are your only options.

Just hop on a train

A hotel to relax in while watching the Macys Thanksgiving Parade in 2010? -

I want to plan a trip in 2010 (or 2011) to New York to watch the Macys Thanksgiving Day Parade. I thought it would be nice to watch it from a warm hotel room from a large window or balcony instead of the crowded street. I don t know if this is actually possible though. I hoped to have several friends and\or family members join us. Does anyone know of a good hotel or something that I could rent on the parade route that would give us a good view?

mellylynne, I visited New York last summer and had a great time. The hotel I stayed at was OK, but I wouldn t stay there again. I found a list of hotels in New York here: http://www.findclosesthotel.com/New-York I m sure you can find a hotel to call and help get you situated.I hate Maine, maybe I should move to New York...

there are quite a few sites that you can search that will likely show you great hotels at the best prices available. check out the website BookMe and you will be able to compare prices on all the reputable travel sites in just a couple minutes. it s very convenient and will save you a bunch of time and money. Also, make sure you buy them online... otherwise they charge much higher fees for phone orders. good luck.

Hello San Diego! Where to visit? -

My husband and I will be visiting San Diego next week. I need something to do while he is tied up with business during the day. Can anyone give me some suggestions as to where I can sight see or shop that is within walking distance of the Hyatt Manchester Grand Hotel?

First off let me say that you picked a great hotel. You are within walking distance of almost everything downtown San Diego has to offer. Walk around Seaport Village and browse the unique shops they have there. That will kill about two hours.Next walk north a few blocks and take a Harbor Excursion Cruise to see San Diego from offshore. It s a good photo opportunity. San Diego looks very different from the waterside. Tours run either 1 or 2 hours in duration. Cost is $20-$25. Check it out here: http://www.sdhe.com/san-diego-harbor-touAnother way to kill an entire day would be to take a cab to Balboa Park and visit the museums and the Zoo. This area is less than four miles from the Gaslamp area where you will be staying. I wouldn t recommend walking because it s uphill. You could take a bus, but a cab ride is nicer and only a few dollars more. When you re done pick any of the Bistros in the Gaslamp area and have lunch, sit in a sidewalk patio area and order a Margarita or two. The hotel will have these little tour booklets for you to peruse through when you check in. If anything else strikes your fancy...Go for it!

Seaport Village is nice. It has tons of cute quaint shops along a beautiful sea wall looking out to Coronado Island. Coronado is also a great place to visit. Ocean Beach is great and also has tons of shops. Balboa park is beautiful place to relax and spend time outside. The Gaslamp District is also full of things to do and see.

Lucky you. That s a great location. When you re done with the Gaslamp Quarter and Horton Plaza you can walk or take the trolley to Little Italy - lots of great little restaurants and some really cool little boutiques. Then hop back on the Trolley and go over to Old Town and if you still haven t had enough shopping, you can take the trolley all the way to Fashion Valley.

Seaport Village, then cruise over to Coronado on the water taxi. Enjoy!

How old do you have to be to stay in a hotel? -

18 to rent a room

There is no age limit to STAY in a hotel, as long as you re with an adult. To rent out a room, you have to be 19 in Canada- I m not sure if it s 18, 19, or 21 in your area, but you could ask someone you know.

18.....legally an adult

Would a California boy like it at MIT? -

I from the bay in California, thinkin about MIT. I never been to the snow. I know you dont know me, but do you think i could like it there??

Besides the snow, the fact that it s in Massachusetts is really irrelevant. The fact is that MIT is a very competitive, nerdy university. Your academic qualifications in high school would put you near the bottom of the MIT incoming class (assuming you get in) and it s going to be very difficult for you to survive and do well. So I don t think you will like it. But, like you said, none of us know you, so we can t really say.

If that s the case you ll probably fit in pretty well in an academic sense. I m from Cambridge and a high school dropout from my hometown probably as more of an academic strip than your average Los Angeleno with a degree. That being said, you probably will have a tough time of it socially outside school, and you ll definitely have a tough time getting adjusted to the speed of life. Even if you re assertive and aggressive by SF standards, you have seen NOTHING till you ve seen the 8am morning rush at Downtown Crossing. Also, people are the inverse of those here: people here are friendlier from the get-go, but are probably more apt to be disingenuous when it comes down to the wire. People there are more blunt and stanoffish or guarded from the get go, but at the end of the day, more people have your back than you had any idea.If you do go there, go to HiFi Pizza on Mass Ave. Local institution. Oh, and forget decent Mexican food :(

If my daughter who went to high school in LA thrived in college in Pittsburgh, a San Francisco guy will do fine in Cambridge. My daughter looked at MIT and Harvard and did not like the overall vibe of the place. She felt Pittsburgh was a more interesting place.

I don t think you would like it there. Not so much because of the snow, but because of the slush. Really no need to worry, though. If you write like that, you not goin MIT anyhow.
