I from the bay in California, thinkin about MIT. I never been to the snow. I know you dont know me, but do you think i could like it there??
Besides the snow, the fact that it s in Massachusetts is really irrelevant. The fact is that MIT is a very competitive, nerdy university. Your academic qualifications in high school would put you near the bottom of the MIT incoming class (assuming you get in) and it s going to be very difficult for you to survive and do well. So I don t think you will like it. But, like you said, none of us know you, so we can t really say.
If that s the case you ll probably fit in pretty well in an academic sense. I m from Cambridge and a high school dropout from my hometown probably as more of an academic strip than your average Los Angeleno with a degree. That being said, you probably will have a tough time of it socially outside school, and you ll definitely have a tough time getting adjusted to the speed of life. Even if you re assertive and aggressive by SF standards, you have seen NOTHING till you ve seen the 8am morning rush at Downtown Crossing. Also, people are the inverse of those here: people here are friendlier from the get-go, but are probably more apt to be disingenuous when it comes down to the wire. People there are more blunt and stanoffish or guarded from the get go, but at the end of the day, more people have your back than you had any idea.If you do go there, go to HiFi Pizza on Mass Ave. Local institution. Oh, and forget decent Mexican food :(
If my daughter who went to high school in LA thrived in college in Pittsburgh, a San Francisco guy will do fine in Cambridge. My daughter looked at MIT and Harvard and did not like the overall vibe of the place. She felt Pittsburgh was a more interesting place.
I don t think you would like it there. Not so much because of the snow, but because of the slush. Really no need to worry, though. If you write like that, you not goin MIT anyhow.
