Tell me why i should or shouldnt move to Florida? -
Florida is a great place to live BUT not right now. Florida has one of the HIGHEST unemployment rates in the nation, depending upon the county it is 11.4% to 17.8%. The national average is at 10%.Our crime rate is very HIGH. We have pockets of crime that are among the highest in the nation. Pay is very LOW in Florida, expect minimum wage pay for many jobs in Florida. The employers do not have to pay high wages because there are 12 others willing to work the same job for less..More and more people are having to work two part time jobs.. both at minimum wage because employers are not hiring full timers right now. This way they get out of employee benefits that are only offered to full timers. While you can get an apt for $600 to $800 a month a minimum wage job will not allow you to afford the rent. If you are going to buy a house, which are very affordable right now, the house insurance is astronomical and homeowners taxes are high and going up Think over your decision very carefully
Try and line up a job first. Otherwise, you might find out that you either can t find one, or the ones that you do find might not pay what you re used to. Depending on the tyep of job you have, you might not be able to afford to live near the ocean. Remember, you re competing with the many northerners who are looking to buy either full year or part year retirement homes near the ocean, and they have a lot of money to spend. Also, keep a few things in mind. If Florida is a place where you ve only ever been on vacation, it can be difficult getting used to the idea of having to live and work, and eventually it is just another place to live. Plus, if you ve never been to Florida in the summer, you need to know that it s very hot and very, very humid.
Shoredude is right.Actually, if you don t mind cooler weather, North Carolina makes a great inexpensive place to live. You get an occassional ice storm vs.Fla, but that s about the worst of it.I lived in Raleigh over a decade, but I decided that Florida had a better economy. There s a tradeoff in mentality though. There s a lot of crime, con artists, and schemers in Florida. People in North Carolina tend to be more downhome. Personally, being from the nyc area, I feel more acculturated in FL, but someone from Nebraska would probably feel more comfortable with NC culture.
I live in Florida and love it. There are crimes everywhere in this world, and if you are careful nothings going to happen. The weather is gorgeous especially the winters here, and of course the beaches are amazing. Maybe if you live in like Miami or somewhere is might be more of a problem, but i live in a serene gated community about 20 minutes from Miami, and it is the best. What s not to like about Fl. And plus you get to go have fun in Orlando for vacacatiuons. Its the best. =)
Florida is high crime. The crime rate in the city of Orlando is three times the crime rate of the city of New York. And right now, there are no job opportunities there. It has one of the highest unemployment rates in the nation. And the jobs it does have are primarily low paying jobs in tourism.
aye, ill tell you about florida (native floridian born and raised here)aight so florida in a nutshell has two seasons hot, and hotter, except for january mornings at 4 am before the sun rises, education system here sucks were ranked like 48th in the nation, yeah we got beaches but only the atlantic beaches are nice, tend to be kinda rough sometimes and alot of the times they have animals (jellyfish, sharks, etc.) in them which make them unsuitable for swimming and even more often we have ripcurrents which will suck you down in them in a heartbeat (or 2), driving here is like trying to drive on a 4 laned road with a bunch of blind people, its ridiculous, its because of the stupid tourists that come here and the old farts (who mostly live in Northern Fla.) who think they know how to drive, and teens who die almost everyweek. ATTRACTIONS WE HAVE DISNEYWORLD, UNIVERSAL STUDIOS, BUSCH GARDENS, AND SEA WORLD, disneyworld, universal, and sea worl are all in orlando, or near here (O-TOWN BABY 407) most are pretty awesome especially around halloween (HALLOWEEN HORROR NIGHTS) ummmmm what else?? PARTIES lmao best partiesin the nation, around miami, you want drugs go to miami, you want beer, go anywhere in central/southern florida, anything in or south of central florida is full of hot chicks/dudes and beer, Crime is pretty dang bad here, like really bad especially in orlando, just the other day we had a shooting in downtown orlando, college is aight, UF is a major party school, and FS AND MIAMI SUCK!!!!! Most floridians are pationate about there state and hate touristsSo you decide do you want to live here?OVERALL its not that bad but it takes some getting used to
