Should I move to LA????????????????????????????? -

Most people who ask this question are unprepared, unrealistic, with no money, no experience, no skills, (no visa), and no plan.If you are outside the United States, you will need a visa. The nice folks in the immigration forum can help you with that.Next, you need a plan: First item on the agenda is rent. A decent 1BR apartment in LA currently goes for $1200, give or take. Nicer areas and areas closer to the beach are much higher. Don t expect to move to Santa Monica and get an apartment on the beach for that much. Or Toluca Lake, or Beverly Hills.Next, you will need a car. Los Angeles is VERY spread out, and train service is extremely limited. If you don t have a car, you will have to take a bus, which takes 3 times longer to get anywhere than a car.All told, it generally takes about $3,000 per month to live here. If you don t have a job that pays that much or skills that can get you that kind of job, stay where you are. If you are unskilled and work for minimum wage (or for tips like bartending or waiting tables), you ll only make about $1200 per month. And speaking of jobs, they are rather hard to come by now. College grads seeking employment are having a very tough time of it right now, since the job market is flooded with experienced people who were laid off. Unemployment is over 12% right now. Not exactly the kind of job market you want to move into. Finally, you will need money. Landlords want first month s rent and a security deposit up front. You ll need money for food, transportation, utilities, etc. The consensus in this forum is that you need about $7500 to start out.So there s your plan. It s probably better to be stuck wherever you re at with friends and family, rather than suffer out here alone.

Wow, I don t know wheter to be flattered or angry. Obviously someone else has mastered the cut-and-paste.Everything there is true (since you plagiarized one of my answers), even your little ad-lib at the end. Best to be satisfied in all circumstances, rather than coming to LA because of a fantasy and becoming an item on the 6:00 news.My guess is that you re a disgruntled fan of mine. You went to a lot of trouble to create an account... is that the only reason? Like I said, I don t know whether to be flattered or angry. I ll get back to you on that.---------Hollywood Sharks are plagiarizing me too? That s it. I m calling my lawyer.

Congratulations ! You, almost word for word, plagiarized Obviousman s answer to those asking about moving to the Los Angeles. Shame on you for not giving him credit. In the literary world that is an unforgivable no, no .

you should add the disneyland thing to your column, everyone thinks disneyland is the center of the universe here in LA, it drives me nuts!

I agree with everything you wrote.

I see you ve been reading Obviousman s answers to this.Yes, that is all pretty accurate.

This exceeds the bounds of flattering immitation.....STOP THIEF.....You should at least give Obviousman some credit or a mention....even the Hollywood Sharks do that...

Is it snowing in Columbus Ohio? -

Idk the places its snowing and i like knowing stuff (: So.. is it snowing in any places in ohio

No. Snow showers are predicted for Tuesday and Wednesday. Please be advised that weather forecasts in Columbus are accurate four hours in advance and two hours in arrears. For about two hours afterward, they are pretty confident they know what happened, then all the data comes in and they are confused again. If you Google weather columbus ohio you can have access to several weather services.

http://www.intellicast.com/local/weatherNo. Currently 24 degrees and clear skies.

no snow in cincinnati.

Have you encountered bed bugs in Las Vegas hotels? -

Look at these reports: http://www.bedbugregistry.com/hotel/NV/Lhttp://www.bedbugregistry.com/hotel/NV/Lhttp://www.bedbugregistry.com/hotel/NV/Lhttp://www.bedbugregistry.com/hotel/NV/Lhttp://www.bedbugregistry.com/hotel/NV/Lhttp://www.bedbugregistry.com/hotel/NV/LI may cancel my upcoming trip... this is very disturbing.

I did not bother to look at your links...sorry...but I don t believe it s necessary to do so.I have an extensive history in the hotel/hotel-gaming industry...I ve worked for Marriott hotels, The Rio Hotel/Casino, the MGM Grand and opened The Mansion at MGM Grand ...am still affiliated with a conference that brings over 14,000 people annually into town, etc etc etc...There are approximately 100,000+ hotel rooms here...in a wide range of properties...in size and quality. Certainly you can find, within that many rooms, across a 365 days/year period...at least some instances where some nasty, unkept, unclean people had stayed/slept there.Key: Don t stay at fleabag properties...quality properties train their housekeeping staff to clean/sterilize everywhere possible...to change linen on a regular basis (even during extended stays the hotels usually change the sheets, etc every few days) and if there are anything even close to bed bugs then environmental services are called in to shut down the room, clean, sterilize, trash, etc anything necessary. If that doesn t sound like the type of hotel you plan to stay at...then either don t come...or stay at a better hotel. As far as bedbug stories...1) people can find bedbugs in any major city s hotel room inventory if you look long and hard enough...heck someone eventually hits a jackpot too...you almost never see it happen, but you ve heard of it...same with bedbugs in quality hotels. 2) if anyone is that worried about bedbugs that they wouldn t come to vegas because of it...then they should quickly go out and buy some industrial bedbug-killing stuff and treat all their personal belonging, bedding, mattresses, couches, pillows, etc and never, never, never stay at a friend/relatives house or any other hotel/motel/inn in the nation...because I ve been all over this nation...and there are no better, more professional, and/or more professionally trained housekeeping staff than in the major Vegas properties....period. Hope that reassures you with facts and info...versus someone trying to get paid for distributing media hype.

No, and I have stayed there many, many times. The reality is, any hotel regardless of price or cleanliness can get bed bugs. All you need is for one guest to bring them in. But what a lot of people do not know is that all hotels, especially in resort areas like Vegas, have a strong extermination policy. What they do is select two floors of rooms at a time. They do not book any of them. They the rooms stripped, inspected and treated. Then they move to the next two floors. This is all invisible to the guests staying there. When they finish the last two floors they repeat the process. This is the same in any resort hotel. Your links are bogus. There is no way to verify those claims. *

I went to Vegas once before and stayed at the Golden Nugget- there were NO bugs there. It s a VERY nice hotel and casino if you dont mind staying downtown instead of on the strip.I will be in Vegas again next week and we chose to stay at Bally s (we don t want to spend a lot of money on a hotel when we don t plan on staying in there much, we d rather spend our majority of money on shows and food) instead of Imperial Palace though because I read A LOT of reviews that said they have bed bugs and it s real smokey smelling in there.

I ve been to Las Vegas many times and never saw any bedbugs. I usually go in the winter and don t have any bug problems. I didn t stay at any of the above hotels.

NO and I live here and have family and friends use hotels. I think those who are complaining brought them with them

What happens in Las Vegas...stays in Las Vegas! I m not saying nothing! :-)

What are some good resources to find information about Seattle, WA tourism and their visiting tourists? -

The visiting part of Seattle s official government site: http://www.seattle.gov/html/visitor/http://www.visitseattle.org/

Natives are very congenial here. The best way to find out what is happening is to ask. There is something here for every interest, so express your interest(s) and you will find the natives helpful. (This ain t a NY sort of place.)

http://search.yahoo.com/search?ei=utf-8 You merely search Seattle tourism and a bunch of sites come up. For any city, I always go with the Convention Visitors Bureau first, then visit the other ones

Well I would definetly try google. But www.wikipedia.com is certain to find most of what you are looking for.

Going on exchange to Minnesota? -

Next year I am going on exchnage to Minnesota, USA. I have been told that they have very different or strange accents, is this true? And also I want to know what they might think of me, I m from australia I do well in school but im deff not a nerd or anything like that and I ll be studying most likely year 12 over there.Seeing as I ll be leaving Australias 35-40 degrees C climate and landing in their winter what clothes do you reccomend i take on the plane with me?Thankyooouu :)

Ooooo Minnesota is really cold in winter. They do have funny accents that are fairly distinctive. You won t find it anywhere else in the US but it s not like you won t understand what they re saying or anything. There are a couple movies that you can watch to see kind of what it s like. Fargo is one a lot of people like but I never cared for it. It really shows the winter weather and the accents tho. Grumpy Old Men is great and it shows the weather but not the accents so much. New in Town is a more recent movie with Renee Zellwiger that isn t bad and it really shows the weather and the accents. Siobhan Fallon plays a character named Blanche that does a perfect Minnesota accent. They are gonna love your accent. We Americans are crazy for Australian accents!!

Answer #1 is sure a good one! You will need warm clothes for winter but since you are arriving for the school year, don t you arrive in August or September? In that case you can arrive with your normal clothes and get some cold weather clothes after you arrive. If you are arriving in January, that s another story. I assume your host family will be picking you up from the airport. If you arrive in the dead of winter your family can meet you at the airport with borrowed cold weather clothes. They can be expensive so since you are not staying maybe your host family can either help you borrow stuff or take you to a thrift shop to find a parka or warm coat and some boots. Then get new hat, scarf, and mittens and you ll have a good outfit. It doesn t get that cold until november or december though so if you arrive at the beginning of the first semester in the Fall, you have time to get your cold weather gear. Minnesotans love Australian accents. You will understand them just fine.

My mom is a native Minnesotan, so I am familiar with the ways of the northerners. You Betcha, those Minnesotans have strange accents, dontcha know. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xHvm9AfXPAs for what they will think of you probably will depend on where you ate going to be. If you are going to Minneapolis/St. Paul (Twin Cities or just the Cities), there is a good amount of cultural diversity, so you won t be thought of as too foreign. The rest of the state is rural, so expect to have questions about kangaroos as pets, Vegemite, Paul Hogan and shrimp on the barbie. They will think you talk with a strange accent. Take the warmest clothes you have for the winter. You will probably have to buy more when you get there. Temps reach below -10F (-23C) with wind chills -50 to-100F (-60 to -73C) There are frequent snows and winds making blizzard and white out conditions possible. If you are interested in snowboarding or skiing there are a number of places to go. Summer temps are fairly close to where you are with greater humidity and giant mosquitoes. Good thing for air conditioning and many lakes.

Hotels near Las Vegas Monorail? -

So, I am coordinating all the trips and meetings for our company executives who are visting Vegas in Jan 2010 for the CES Show. The idea is to have a Suite booked, and the meetings could be held there. Sometimes there could be 15-20 meetings in a day and for the sake of all the people coming in to meet us, I want to make sure that the hotel is close or walking distance to the Monorail. Can anyone help me with the names of the best hotels that are at a walking distance from the Monorail in Las Vegas?

OKAY...BEST ANSWER....from somone who is knowledgeable/experienced with having conventions at the Las Vegas Convention Center!!!2010 CES will be held primarily at the Convention Center...and additionally at the Venetian.I am CERTAIN that you are concerned about access to/from the convention center by monorail...or a monorail-linked property.EASY ANSWERS ALTERNATIVES....and the easiest one for you work with!!!1) Stay at the Las Vegas Hilton...it is attached to the Convention Center and is the most convenient.2) Stay at the Renaissance Hotel...it is a few hundred yards away, has meeting rooms as well as a nice restaurant inside.3) Stay at the Riviera Hotel...it is immediately accross from the Hilton (I used to be associated with a convention that was held split, Hilton Riviera with shuttles to run you across the street...very easy walk too!)4) stay at either the Marriott Residence Inn or Courtyard hotels that are diagonally across from the convention center (careful not to book other Marriott properties down the road or across town!).5) Rent a meeting room inside the Turnberry Towers property across the street...it is a high-end, classy, celeb and socialite residencial property...the first high rise residential towers built in Las Vegas. I am a member there, would be happy to coordinate/assist you with that...you could use a meeting room or rent a high-floor residence for a social/party gathering...if you wished.6) Since the Venetian is an all-suite property and a part of the CES show itself...have you looked into booking a room/suite there?Walking distance from the convention center to any of the properties I mentioned, other than Venetian which should have a shuttle as well, will actually be less walking than people have getting from most monorail platforms in the back of the hotels to the room elevators (then add the walk through the hallways, etc to get to the suites! Most larger suites are at the end of the hallways...but not all of them...f.y.i.)***I used to help run/operate/advise.... some of the Hotel/Casino properties and another major annual convention in town...I know nearly everything there is to know about this town and these topics. Soon, I will have a website available for helping to book these things for you...but for now...if you d like more assistance, please feel free to click on my profile pic and then email mjm to send me any followup questions/concerns. I have many friends and contacts around town in the various shows, hotels, clubs, etc...so, feel free to pic my brain ...lol. Has your company exhibites/etc at CES before?

The five diamond hotels in LAS VEGAS are all a pretty long walk to the monorail.BellagioFour Seasons Hotel Las VegasSkylofts at the MGM Grand HotelThe Venetian and the Palazzo Resort Hotel CasinoWynn and the Encore Las VegasRitz Carlton at Lake Las Vegas (not on the strip)----------------------------The four diamond hotels near the monorail are The Paris, The MGM Grand (and the signature towers), and Planet Hollywood. Rooms at Planet Hollywood can be expensive. The MGM Grand is a nice compromise that will keep most executives happy, and at the same time keep expenses within a reasonable range.

Each monorail station, except for the one at the convention center, is IN a hotel.MGM GrandBally sFlamingoHarrah sHiltonSaharaNote that CES makes the hotels sign contracts stating that they will NOT permit any meetings to be held in residential rooms/suites (i.e. anything with a bed) during the CES dates. So unless your execs like being smuggled in and out like high school kids going to an after-prom party and sitting on the floor or the edge of a bed to meet, you are better off booking an actual meeting room with a conference table.

I haven t read the posts to this yet, however i would like to state that there is a bus that runs up and down the whole strip and drops you off close to Fremont St. It is cheap even for a ALL day pass.We have been to Vegas twice in the past and are going again in Feb. The first year we road the monorail and didn t think it was worth it, it drops your off at the rear of the hotels, where as the bus is cheap, and drops your off at the front of ANY of the hotels on strip.Hope this helps.

What should I expect from Nintendo World in NYC and what is there exactly? -

I am thinking of going to New York sometime soon and I just found out that Nintendo has its own store there. I went on the website for it, but all it said was that the store sells Nintendo merchandise and allows people to try out games. Is there anything else anyone can tell me about it? Considering it s in New York it might be mobbed and I ve heard that when a new Wii or Nintendo DS game comes out, the store does something special for the game around the time of its release. If anyone can give me more information that would be great.

That s pretty much it. It s a small, crowded space. Most of the games are on the 2nd floor. Year round it s filled with unruly kids fighting each other to monopolize whatever game they could be playing at home. And you surely don t want to go there during the Christmas season! (People who have come to look at the tree at Rockefeller Center stop in just to warm up.)

Wheres better to relocate, Victorville or Palmdale? -

You might want to include what you are looking for, what you need to have.
