Going to new york city for a day trip in 2 weeks...what should we do? -

so i just found out i have tickets to see bye bye birdie on broadway! which is super exciting, since i LOVELOVELOVE musicals and nyc.the show starts at 8, so my friends and i have a lot of time during the day. any recommendations on what to do and where to go?thanks:)

Honestly, if you are only going to be there for a day, focus on Time Square. There is plenty of stuff there from the huge Toy s R Us, to the flashing lights and the shopping.I m sure you will be by radio city music hall. Be sure to see the tree at Rockefeller center, and the ice skating rink!I wouldn t eat around there though, if you can avoid it. It s mostly just standard American fare (burgers, burgers, more burgers), and instead go over to 8th ave. There is a lovely little hole int he wall on the corner of 38 and 8 (which is still near Times Square) called Gogo Curry. It s Japanese style curry. Not too spicy! It s delicious, trust me! There are some other good little chains like Grey s papaya, if you like Hot dogs.Hope that helps!

For a day trip- I would focus on Times Square or 5th Avenue. Times Square is very crowded but has many great features. The lights and the atmosphere is awesome. They have the huge American Eagle store, Toys R Us, Hersheys, M M, and other smaller shops. All the theatres are in that area. You could go to 5th Ave where they have the NBA store, the Disney store, Abercrombie, American Girl, and FAO Schwartz. You are closer to Central Park which is really nice. A few months ago I went to see the Little Mermaid with family and friends and this is what we did. We got off the train at Penn Station and took a cab to Central Park. We walked around a little and then started walking down 5th Ave. We hit FAO Schwartz first which is right on the corner of 5th Ave and 58th Street. 2 more blocks down is the Disney store which has 3 floors full of Disney goodness! Most of the things they sell are things you can only buy in Disney World/Land. Across from the Disney store is Abercrombie and the Gap. They have Loubiton and Tiffanys one block down. You can see the Trump Towers which is amazing. I adivse you just go in and use their bathroom because the inside is all gold. Its breath-taking! One more block down is the NBA store and then St. Patricks Cathedral. And if you go down one more block its the American Girl Store and H M. Then we cut down 49 street to 6th ave (avenue of the americas) and saw radio city music hall and went ice skating at rockefeller plaza. After that we went up 49th street to Times Square which is one block up. We ate at Planet Hollywood but I wouldn t advise you to go there. The food is terrible, as well as service and very pricey! But after our show we went to the M M store and the Toys R Us. And took lots of pictures of the signs and lights all over.Have a great time!! =)

Hows Columbia Universitys reputation in NYC? -

Do New Yorkers revere the school or despise it?

Columbia is a good school. Very generally, many of the kids I ve encountered who come out of there are very scholarly and philosophical, but lack the practicality and utilitarian skill to be good additions to a diverse workforce. They may become excellent think tank speculators and or possibly even educators, but if I wanted to hire someone for an operational role, I would much rather go to NYU.

Columbia U has produced three US PresidentsObamaFDRTheodore RooseveltNot as sterling as Harvard and Yale, but still quite impressive. It s a notch better than NYU.

Columbia is one of the best. It has a very good reputation in NYC, although, it is tough to get into.Good luck

I have a question about the Holland tunnel? -

how is the traffic like inbound Holland tunnel at 7:00 in the morning? Good, bad, moderate? Thanks

Ehhh it will likely be slow, but at 7 AM, you might JUST barely beat the worst of it. That said, be prepared sit for a very, very long time on that approach, especially if you don t have E-Z Pass.

Yeah, via the Holland Tunnel, you have to go through lower Manhattan to the Williamsburg, Manhattan, or Brooklyn Bridge. Any of those might be rough, but then again, there s no real guaranteed good way. Listen to traffic reports as you get close. Report Abuse

What should I do in new york city? -

i love skateboarding, malls, pizza, and anything else you might think would be exiciting and be worth while*mark this interesting if you do*

Go visit the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, two landmarks of New York City. To get there by the ferry, you need to purchase round-trip ferry tickets at Castle Clinton National Monument in Lower Manhattan. Ferries from New York operate on a loop, stopping first at Liberty Island and then at Ellis Island before returning to Battery Park, New York.Directions to get the ferry dock:http://www.nps.gov/stli/planyourvisit/puGo visit the Empire State Building, one of the many landmarks of our city. It is located at 350 5th Avenue. To get there by MTA subway, take the 1, 2, or 3 (Seventh Avenue Lines), A, C or E (Eighth Avenue Subway) to 34th Street/Penn Station. Or take the B, D, F, N, Q, R or Path to 34th Street/Avenue of the Americas.Go walk across the Brooklyn Bridge, which is, if I m correct, which I might not be, is the oldest structure in the city. If not the oldest structure, the oldest bridge. To get there, and walk across it, take the 4, 5, or 6 to the Brooklyn Bridge/City Hall stop. Another option would be to take the J, M, or Z to Chambers Street.Go visit Coney Island, the home of the world famous Cyclone roller coaster. The amusement park will be closed, especially in the winter time, but the aquarium is open year-round, and sometimes the pier is open, so you can get some snacks -- they have fantastic corn dogs on the pier. To get there by train, take the D, Q N or F train to Stillwell Avenue, which is the last stop. This takes about 45 minutes from midtown Manhattan, and sometimes longer, depending on where you are coming from.Go for a ride on the Circle Line. There are numerous different cruises C one is the Full Island Cruise, which takes you around Manhattan on a three-hour cruise. The Semi-Circle Cruise sets sail on a two-hour cruise down the Hudson offering a stunning panoramic of the famed New York skyline and a close-up view of Lady Liberty. The Liberty Cruise turns 75-minutes into a quick and inspirational way to see New Yorks highlights from the water. There is also a Harbor Lights Evening Cruise, which allows you to view the hotspots of New York City from the water at night. Then, there is The Beast. Its a boat that travels at forty-five miles per hour down the river to the Statue of Liberty. Both cruises are fun and informational, and are a great way to kill some time if you dont have anything to do.Here is the Circle Line schedule:http://www.circleline42.com/site/schedulCircle Line special events:http://www.circleline42.com/site/browse.Go to visit some museums. There are so many, that listing directions to all of them would be a waste of your time and my time, so instead, I will give you a list where there is a list of all the museums of New York City. Rockefeller is between 47th and 50th Streets and 5th and 7th Avenues. I would also suggest seeing the Nutcracker , which is a Christmas-themed ballet. It s a magical performance, and it s a fun family ballet, and I would suggest that as well. Also check out SoHo and Canal Street for some fantastic shopping. Where is a safe area to live in northeast indianapolis? -

Im moving from California to Indianapolis to be closer to famiy. I was curious if anyone can give advice as to what would be a good location. I was looking from the area by St Vincent Hospital over to Castelton area. I work in medical field so need to be somewhat near hospital. Im late 20s, single and will live alone. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

..hmm. If we re thinking of the same St. Vincent, I believe it is located on the northwest side of town whereas Castleton is northeast. If being near the hospital is a priority, then don t bother with other areas. The northside in general is safe compared to other parts of town, and you should have no troubles whether you moved near the hospital or all the way over to the Castleton area. In fact, given your location, Broad Ripple is a good option for you and I would recommend looking into that area as a potential locale as well (it s slightly southeast of the hospital). Regardless of where you choose, Indianapolis and its suburbs are relatively safe places to live, and I m sure you ll find somewhere that suits your wants and style.Hope I helped! :]

The St Vincent is on the Northwest side. We have hospital on every side of town and out reach hospital out even further from the city. I would find a job first and then get a house. Getting a job will be harder than finding a house.

Megabus (USA) tickets? -

Does anyone know when megabus has $1 tickets?? Whenever I look up the fare, it is usually around $28 one way, and that s not very cheap. Please let me know, and if you know of other very affordable and dependable buses that go to major cities in the Northeast, please let me know of it! Thanks!

It looks like it s a special price and right now the $1 fare is only good for routes to and from NYC.Without knowing what cities you are interested in, the only other one I know of is Greyhound.

Is portland Oregon a good place to live at? -

I am wanting to know about the community for example do they treat people with respect or what and I also would like to know if you guys have any boxing gyms down there because ive been boxing for a couple of month s now but can t train right now since im packing up to move well if you do have a boxing gym down there I would like to know if you could please give me the address and the name of the gym,I would also like to know if it would be easy to make friend s there by the way I am 18 and I currently live in Bakersfield CA and the reason for the move is because I am wanting to go to high school down there it s my senior year and they won t allow me to go to high school here for some weird reason by the way do you think I would be able to go to high school there and I would also like to know what the altitude and the weather is like down there well please answer my question only if you live in portland oregon or used to live there thank you.

Portland is a remarkable place. lots of energy there. i am in portland All the time. I live just an hour away in Seaside. but during the summer i live there with my girlfriend and i stay at our house all the time through out the week. Yes we both are still in high school, she does to a portland high school. as i go to seaside high school.as for the environment, its unpredictable. we get rain, thunder, sunshine everything pretty much can happen in one day. so its unpredictable. Portland is big also, easy to get lost when your driving but thats when your downtown mainly. but there is also tons of shopping places, so thats a plus.

It used to be...we are over run my out of staters. Cost of everything has gone way up, bad economy has made it worse. The beautiful trees and greenery we are known for in the Pacific NW is disappearing before our eyes due to all the new housing, over crowded schools ect. Sorry. It s just what I have seen over my 40plus years living here. Im a native.

If you have money, you will be treated with respect. If you don t have money, you will be ignored by the people who do. Portland is a city of two diverse economic groups. Either you are dirt poor or you have money. The two groups don t mix. . The people with money ignore and disdain the poor. The poor join gangs for companionship and a sense of belonging, and as a way of getting the things they are denied by the people who have money. Portland has a few organizations to help the poor, but they are under staffed and mostly without funds to provide any services. The people with money deny or refuse to recognize they have a problem that breeds crime and gangs.Oregon boast of the most homeless people of any state, has the second highest unemployment of all the states in the nation, and when all taxes and surcharges are combined, has the highest state tax rate of all the states. Many of Portland s public schools do not meet federal education standards.Oregons schools are financed by the state general fund, so the amount of money each school district receives depends on the number of students they have enrolled. You would have to be dead not to be accepted in an Oregon School. On the opposite side of the coin, Portland has the best public transportation system in the U.S. Other cities come to Portland to learn how to do it right. Portland also has a lot of civic activities and nice gardens / parks. Portland thinks of itself as an Environmentally Conscious City and encourages Green activities. In summation, there is good and bad in Portland just like in Bakersfield. How you are perceived depends on whether you work and get money, or join a gang and expect everyone to hand you the things they worked to get.

The schools here are nice and unless you are in big trouble with the law or not an American citizen they will allow you to go to school here. Friends are easily made here, do your best to avoid the gangs though. They only cause trouble as there is not much else they can do. They like to bring new people in so they can cause more trouble, but it will only land you in jail or dead. The gangs here are stupid anyhow, of course most gangs are just stupid. If you have free time there are many places looking for volunteers which leads to a better future, also there are many jobs in the fast food industry, not many other jobs around this area at the moment though. Also, colleges are easy to get into and affordable. So, if you can not get into the schools for some reason, simply go take your GED courses at the college, Mt, Hood and Clackamas Community College are both good schools and both offer affordable GED classes along with being able to help you get financial assitance if you need it.

What are the best directions to quot;Pig Ladys Roadquot; in NJ? -

Me and some of my friends are looking to take a road trip one night and this Weird NJ road stuck out. It seems like an interesting tale, I just would like to know how to exactly get there.

You re looking for Roycefield Road, aka Pig Lady s Road. I read that you should be looking for a gate or a roped off area along a stone wall. Here s a map of Roycefield Rd...http://maps.yahoo.com/#mvt=h lat=40.5546Here s a YouTube video of a couple of guys that reveal a hint of what to look for on Roycefield...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_7hp5_nOsI see quite a few comments in various blogs about the Pig Lady. Maybe an interesting ride on a slow Friday night.

http://www.weirdnj.com/index.php?option= LADY ROAD The Mysterious Pig Lady Attacks!...In the early 1900s when Hills borough was all farms and vast woods there lived a lady who resembled a pig. She lived on a farm secluded from civilization because as a child she was picked on and teased constantly, so she vowed never to have to deal with that kind of torture ever again. One day as she was gardening, a young boy came along with two of his friends and noticed her. The boys made jokes about her hideous pig face and vowed to go back later that night, and place a slaughtered pig head on her door step. They went that night and were never heard from again. Years later as Hills borough grew in population, the missing teenagers bones were found where her garden once was.Legend has it that in order for her to come out, you must annoy her by flashing your lights, screaming Pig Lady, and beeping the horn. Then you must leave someone from the group on the street, and drive off without looking back. Once you get to the end of the road you turn around and go back and see what your friend has witnessed. The whole drive from leaving your friend and coming back takes ten minutes. We all admitted to being scared except for my friend Jenn. She was calling us stupid for being scared and taunted the Pig Lady when she got out of the car. We did the routine and sped off. We arrived back and laughing at how scared we all were, except there was no Jenn. We thought she was playing a joke, so we got out of the car. My friend Shannon heard crying from a nearby bush. My friend John carried Jenn out and we got into the car in silence. After leaving the deserted road we stopped to get gas. Jenn was still crying and I turned to comfort her C that s when I noticed the scratches on her face, arms, and legs. We dropped her off and she never spoke to us again. She moved one year later. CThe Pig Hunter

Could someone help me with Ride-on/Metro question? -

I haven t been on a bus in three years. Do I need a smartrip card? Can I pay cash when I get on the bus? Where can I purchase card? How much is the fare? I will only be using it one night. Thanks!

You do not need a smart trip card to ride the bus, however it is slightly less expensive. The bus fare for smartrip riders is $1.25, while it s $1.35 for regular riders. You can pay cash, but be aware that the bus drivers do not give you change, so if you put 2 dollars in you don t get anything back. So make sure to bring exact change ($1.35) If you will be taking the bus frequently, I d suggest buying a card, but if it s only a one time thing don t bother. You can purchase smartrip cards in certain stations such a metro center, or order one in the mail. Hope this was helpful :)

How is the LAX club in the luxor hotel in las vegas? -

Hi. LAX was THE hot spot when it opened, while the buzz has died down the club still stays crowded Fri Sat, they are no longer open on Thursdays. Wednesdays is their industry night, which can be a great experience, expecially when paired with Cathouse Afterhours (also in the Luxor). LAX will be closed from 12/24-12/29/09. I m a longtime Las Vegas club promoter. Let me know if I can help w/anything. While cheap is good, free is better. http://FreeVegasClubPasses.com/Chris Hornak702.518.2582

LAX is a pretty good club it is run by the same club as ure which is extremely popular. The lines can sometimes get over 3 hours long because it is such a celebrity hotspot. Id suggest using http://www.CheapVegasClubs.com to get in with no line and no cover for only $15 instead of the $30 cover with the wait

LAX is very nice

Is it HARD to live in LA? -

Please only answer if you can give me a detailed response. My female friend is moving from Chicago to Los Angeles, and I am so upset with her! She is going there to become an actress, yet has no reel. All she did was a reality show in LA a year ago, and has some nice head shots. Yet she claims she doesn t need to save much money to move out there, and that she can easily find a temp job to make $$$. Wow, really? In this economy? So its just that easy to pick up and move to LA? Also, she claims her friend is going to let her live with him rent free! I am SO jealous! I am also a actor/writer, yet I don t have a connection like that where rent is free.So all she has to do is save up for a car and gas. Yet she claims instead of buying a car, she s going to rent one- since its cheaper. So with only $2,000 she can afford to live in LA looking for acting jobs? How much is gas? How much does she need to keep up in renting a car? Since she isn t paying for rent (her male friend is a contract worker who will be moving out of LA in May, I guess).I yelled at her and told her she should wait a while before up and moving, but she says she s tired of Chicago (I dont blame her) and that if she keeps being safe, she ll never become famous. She is also a 27 year-old black female, very pretty. So what s at risk/store for her?

Rent free yeah right is he a dude that wants something in return. To get employment here is hard for a good paying job. I hope she has a good resume. Because the average 1 bedroom apartment is about 800.00 and over depends on the area really. If its in the ghetto she will be paying like 500.00 and over. There are a lot of people that rent rooms the average cost for that is 400.00 an over. I suggest she try right now to look for a job and set up interviews maybe something over the phone. The people that are hiring the most right now are Bank jobs like tellers. Also let her know the tax here went up almost 10%. I would say also dont be careful who she puts her trust in. Maybe is she contact a church to help her get started or something like that. O, I forgot she will need a car or learn the bus schedules bcs everything is far from everything. Good Luck !!

I agree with May. This guy has to want something in return, and what if them living together doesn t work out, where will she go? back to Chicago? oh and it s simple, SHE NEEDS MORE MONEY TO LIVE HERE. a LOT more.

it aint cheap living here... the streets are paved with gold. Its just the shovel sets you back a few million,

Excuse the language, but your female friend is an idiot and she needs to come to her senses. She needs to know that millions (literally) come to California to become actresses only to become porn stars, prostitutes, drug addicts, homeless or dead! She also needs to know that Coastal California is the MOST COVETED area which means MORE $$$.Affordability does not exist in Los Angeles. Starting prices begin at around $1000+/mo. and that s usually for a studio in a somewhat decent area.Jobs are also nonexistent at the moment. Unemployment rates have jumped to 13% so good luck finding a job. Even if she finds a job, that job will barely pay the rent (or not even come close to paying the rent.)She also needs to keep in mind she does NEED to buy groceries, hygiene products, clothes, emergency money, gas, electric, water, insurance, car, etc.Speaking of cars, she NEEDS a car in order to live in Los Angeles. The insurance for the car is not going to be cheap since the rate in Los Angeles are high and the gas prices are going to make her want to move back to Illinois.Bottom Line: She sounds unprepared so my best suggestion for her is don t even bother moving to California because we already have a crisis going on and people like her are just contributing to the problem.

Yeah, it s hard to live in LA. But the main thing we tell people here is that the rent is the killer. If she can live rent free (something tells me it s not as free as she says. Usually favors are exchanged) then that s the biggest hurdle. Jobs are really hard to come by here. She better be REALLY pretty, and have something besides looks. But overall, I don t blame you for being jealous. She has a leg up on 99% of the people who try to make a go of it. And I don t blame her for wanting to avoid another Chicago winter. If she doesn t make it by May, at least she didn t have to endure winter in Chicago.

She s probably not going to get anywhere. I would say that she needs to have AT LEAST $20,000 saved up before coming here. It s not easy to find temp jobs these days. It sounds like her friend has other plans for her.I don t want to scare you or anything, but there are many con artists that attract young women to Los Angeles with promises of making it big in the movies, and then push them into stripping or prostitution. I don t know if that is the case here, but I m just saying.
