Which Saint Louis neighborhoods are safe? -

I am planning a move to Saint Louis, but am completely unfamiliar with the city. I am a single white female, mid twenties, and a bit of an artsy-hippie type. In which neighborhoods should I concentrate my search, and which neighborhoods should I be sure to avoid?

Avoid north city and north county. Depends on where you are working as to where you might want to live for an easy commute. City areas such as Soulard, Lafayette Park, Benton Park, Central West End and even the down town lofts are relatively safe and areas with interesting architecture. Mainly young professionals. The Dogtown and St. Louis Hills areas are safer but not as interesting. South Grand area if you are careful about your streets is also a consideration. The University City loop is definitely fun but be careful not to go north of Delmar or east of Skinker. Clayton and Ladue are very safe and classy but not artsy and hippie. Maplewood is getting to be a new area that you should look into. If you want to go to the county I d suggest west or south county. West is a little more upscale and higher priced and the commute can be a bit longer into the downtown area. South county is very down to earth and a bit more reasonable for apartments. Both county areas are extremely safe

AVOID THE AREIN SOUTH ST. LOUIS THAT ALL STREETS START WITH THE NAMES OF THE STATES!!!! AND INDIAN TRIBES!!! (ie: California, Idaho, Cherokee.... But Chippewa is ok!) The area is so scattered as far as the good parts and bad parts..... Not worth the gamble!Avoid north county.Afton, South county, West county, Shrewsbury, Clayton, Brentwood, Maplewood, and Richmond Heights, Sunset hills, Ballwin, The Central West End. This area has a fine balance of homeowners, renters, and businesses. The architecture of CWE is reflective of the rich architectural heritage found in St. Louis. Located just east of Forest Park, you can walk to the St. Louis Art Museum, Zoo, Washington University Medical School, and more.See available apartments in The Central West End.Clayton (pricey!) is recognized for it��s outstanding quality of life. This suburban community provides the best of all worlds. Stately single-family homes, condominiums, apartments, and a vibrant business district offer a variety of living styles. If I were in your situation, I d look into Soulard, Lafayette Park, Central West End, Benton Park, the Dogtown area, Clayton (pricier and many families but still cool), and the U City Loop area. As a single, artsy-hippie type mid-20 s person, you probably wouldn t enjoy living far out in West or South St. Louis County as those areas are generally more conservative and boring. Many parts North County and north St. Louis city should be avoided as well.

I vote Central West End also because of all the Medical folks living and working in and around that area. Night life is more in tune with twenties+ age group. But, if you fall in love with a Doctor, my heart go out to you !!! You ll live a very rich lifestyle but, you ll see very little of your husband because St. Louis city, county and surrounding area s are about 800 sq. miles in the Medical field !!!

I m a New York resident but I m moving to michigan permanently due to federal job, They told me that i can choose between either state for my income tax. Which one is better and Do i actually can choose or I have to stick to new york since I m a resident? If you re primary residence will not be in New York in 2010, and you will have a year-round address in Michigan and primarily reside at that address, and you file your own taxes at the end of 2010, you ll no longer be a resident of New York. You ll be a resident of Michigan and pay only Michigan income taxes.FYI: Michigan income tax rates are a fixed percentage of income, while New York income taxes are staggered. All in all, Michigan has the better rate, but not by much.

They got a lot of the rope off the whale on Thursday, but hadn t gotten it all off at last report. As of Saturday, the surf is really picking up, and big swells would interfere with that work.

Whats the best way to get from Tucson to Phoenix, if you dont have a car? -

Shuttle service looks like it will run you under $35. Seems incredibly cheap to me.

Ok well my niece used to be in Whillimena Modeling but for some reason she s not with them anymore. She sent in an application form and stuff to Ford Models but they haven t responded yet. Does anyone know any REAL modeling agencies that can take her ? Help please. Thank you

Did she leave them or did they drop her? If she left them, she s going to have to explain why she left a top agency. If it was because of school or health issues or whatever, she s going to have to prove to them that whatever the issue was is no longer an issue and won t be an issue in the future. If they have any reason to believe she might leave them for some reason, they won t bother with her. She could be seen as flaky and not 100% committed to modeling if she chose to leave for any reason. But if Wilhelmina dropped her, it s going to be very difficult for her to get another NY agency. Agencies like Wilhelmina don t drop successful models and the NY industry is very small, with many of the agents knowing each other (most move around so they ve all worked together at some point, or know someone who knows someone). If she was dropped because she wasn t booking enough work or she was difficult to work with, she s not going to have much luck with any other agency signing her. The first thing they ll do is call Wilhelmina and ask why she s not there any more.Before she goes to new agencies, she is going to have to have a good explanation why she either left Wilhelmina or they dropped her because that s going to be the first question any new agency will ask her
