Should i run away to new york? -

i live in nevada and i m tired of my family. i think i m going to run away to new york tonight with my boyfriend with 17 kids (all with different women, might i add), whom my parents have never even meant! i know: yikessss.

why new york?

Good idea. There are a lot more women in New York than there are in Nevada, so your boyfriend will be able to sleep with more women and father more kids here in NYC than he possibly can there. He s probably already running out of Nevada women. Also, the Jerry Springer Show s studio is nearby in Connecticut, and it makes sense for you both to live within a convenient distance.

Do not come to New York unless you plan to be a prostitute working the streets. This is one of the highest cost of living areas in the nation where the most miserable, tiny apartments cost over $1000/month. I get the feeling that you are either, A) Pranking me. or B) Young and very foolish. If B, as I surmise, a move to New York will end with a meeting with a Pimp, sweet-talking and an offer of shelter, followed by gang-rape and a life of sexual slavery. If you are a Christian, remember the story of the prodigal son. He had to swallow his pride and return home. It s time for you to do the same, or move in a shared apartment with a few friends and get a job.

NO! to run away is very dangerous! Please stay and give your parents a chance or get help from school or someone you trust.New York is a large city and there are strange and bad people would pray on kids. Please don t do it and get help.

Not yikes. But stupid for sure. (Sorry, it s true.) NYC will eat you a live. If you can t handle family disagreements over a boyfirend, you can handle the streets.

You know, or at least should know, that this forum is not open to twelve year olds. Questions like this is one of the reasons.

new york is a great place, but that s too many kids

What the hell man.

Best place to live in Manhattan for someone in early 20s? -

I m going to be moving to NYC soon and I m starting to look into apartments in the Manhattan area. I m in my early 20s, I m a very artsy-fartsy type of person, I love visiting museums, doing anything creative, shopping, and going to restaurants. I don t really like to party or go to bars or clubs so I m trying to decide what area would be best for me. I ve been focusing on the Upper East Side, I spent some time around there this summer and although some people say it s bring it s seems to be a nice pace for me. Any other areas I should check out that aren t extremely expensive (I m trying to get an apartment in the 1,500 - 1,650 range) and that would fit my life style? What is it like to live in Midtown or Greenwich Village?

Actually, there are lots of small places available on the Upper East Side. I mean small, like a one room studio. The village is much louder and more expensive.

The Upper East Side is the most expensive place to live..... you can t afford it. Sorry to burst your bubble..... but you probably can t afford most of Manhattan. Move to Brooklyn.

I think Chelsea would be more of a fit for your lifestyle and it s less expensive. Good luck on whatever you decide though! =)

How can i work in NYC? -

i would really like to move to New York city in the near future, but iam unknown how i can do this. i might start a career in nursing but would there be opportunities for British people to work there? also could i be able to maybe volunteer at a medical centre first?

Do you have a degree from the UK. I ll be honest without a university degree already it will be difficult. It will be difficult anyway because of educational inflation in the US (practically everyone has a bachelors degree). If you do have a degree, even in nursing, you have to make sure that you can still get certified to work here as a nurse. Not to mention you will need several thousands dollars saved up for a deposit and first months payment on an apartment. As far as your question are there opportunities for British people? . It s NYC, probably the most diverse city on the planet, there are opportunities for everyone no matter where you are from but it is very much a meritocracy, so be prepared.Hope this helped.

There s an opportunity for any kind of person to work in NYC, as long as you have the education and some kind of experience in it. Volunteering is a good way to start for sure, theyyy loveeee volunteersss here !

diverse there s that word againnursing school

Whats Garden Grove in Los Angeles like? -

Is it a nice place to live? Is it a wealthy place? give me the ups and downs. i am thinking of moving there. just tell me all the details about it. whats the crime like? everything about it. Thanks very much in advance.

We get a couple questions a day, mostly from people in Ireland, and the United Kingdom, asking how to move to the U.S. Don t the schools in Europe teach its pupils that to immigrate to the United States you MUST apply for permission to immigrate at the nearest U.S. Embassy. To qualify you MUST prove that you have enough money to support yourself, or have a relative here that will sponsor you. We do not allow people to enter our country if they are going to become a burden on the U.S. tax payers. Also you can NOT legally work in the U.S. without a work visa. An American company MUST sponsor you, and with the U.S. in a recession the ONLY job categories to qualify for a work visa is in Advanced Medicine or Engineering. Trades people will not qualify. To answer your question Garden Grove is a very nice city. My sister lived there before passing away.

It is pretty much the same as Westminster and Huntington Beach now,a Vietnamese resettlement areas. Its not that its an older city it is just not an updated city for the most part. Its a lil cheaper there due to the low income, moderate crime, its just a residential city basically. I was raised there, and its so changed. I would suggest the areas of Knott to Valley View, and the Garden Grove Fwy *22 Fwy to say Katella is the only area Id now live in if I had to move back there.North border KatellaSouth Border 22 FwyWest border Valley ViewEast Border Knott AveSome areas of Cypress are nice, some areas of Los Alamitos are nice too.

It is a large suburb of Orange County(not far from LA). It does have a fairly large Vietnamese population. It has some very nice homes, no real ghettos that I m aware of. If you have a job offer there, you should be able to find a suitable home there as well, or inn a neighboring town. Keep in mine the LA/OC area is non stop city from the mountains north of LA to the Mexican border 140 miles south. Look at a map and see what I m talking about. The crime stats should be available through public records and local papers(LA Times(LA and OC copies) and Orange County Register). The area is expensive to live in, Taxes are high, gas is high, rent, home prices, etc....

well first off, it is not in LA. it s not even in the same county. Garden Grove is in the north part of Orange County. although garden grove is relatively expensive to live in(like the rest of orange county), it is actually considered one of the less wealthy areas in orange county. i live in a place called rossmoor in OC which is about 10 min away from garden grove. my area is pretty nice. garden grove is known for having some crummy areas, but even that said, it is safer than a lot of areas in LA county. orange county in general is a very safe area. so bottom line, if it is a must for you to live there, you will be fine as long as you find a decent area.but i would reccomend other cities if you can afford it such as huntington beach, cypress, Los Alamitos, Rossmoor, Seal beach. all of these areas are within 10 min of garden grove. good luck

mostly Koreans and other asians live there its not that bad , better than LA for sure , look up the crime stats in the web ,if you like korean bbq its the best place to eat there ..

well you going hard to find garden grove in Los Angelesbecausse its NOT even in Los Angeles COUNTYits in orange county not Los Angelesits a nice city being next day to anaherim

It s all right. A lot of Asians and Hispanics, some whites as well. Crime is average, schools are decent.

It s an okay city... not too bad... a little too cityish for my taste... but yeah it s in the OC and there are A LOT of asians...

It s in Orange County by the way.

yeah, that s not even in LA, which explains why ive never heard of it.

Whats the road condition like in snoqualmie pass? -

im thinking of going there on thursday. is it icy?

Yes, you will likely run into winter driving conditions on the pass. Check the Washington State Dept of Transportation website for exact conditions. It s been snowing up there a lot in the past few weeks. If you make the drive, make sure your car is in good shape, with decent tires on them. Bring chains and know how to put them on. Plan to drive across mid-day to increase the chances for above freezing weather and better driving conditions. Have warm clothes, food and water with you in case the pass gets closed and you are stuck in your car for a while.

How it is right now is no indication of how it will be Thu. Check the Washington DOT website the day before/day you re going - http://wsdot.wa.gov/Traffic/passes/snoqu This will tell you what the current conditions are like and if there s any restrictions (chains required, closed due to avalanche, etc)

Im thinking of moving to Portland, OR. Any suggestions or comments about Portland? -

I am planning on moving in the early spring. Portland is at the top of my list. If anyone that lives there could give me some info, suggestions or comments, that would be great!

I just moved here in June. I love it so far, and have no sales tax is a definite perk. (: I will warn you that Portland s unemployment rate is freakishly high at the moment. Be sure that you can get a job secured before you move here, or apply like crazy, which is what I did. Portland proper isn t cheap to live in, either, but if you re willing to expand to the cities that border it (such as Beaverton, Hillsboro, Aloha, etc.), then you ll find that the costs of living lower dramatically while still giving you convenient access to the town. The transit system here is WONDERFUL, you can literally get anywhere you need to go. (See Trimet.org if that bit interests you.) There s always something going on, too. Bored? Just go downtown and you re guaranteed to find something to do. Last time I want down there, there was a Tiki man dance going on in the park. That was entertaining. Oh, and yes, it rains quite a lot. It s humid and very overcast a lot of the time. Sometimes the drains will overflow into the streets. This usually happens in the heart of the town, however. You re guaranteed to meet a ton of cool, like-minded people, though, and that s a plus. Once you secure a place here, you won t want to leave. My biggest suggestion is just to make sure you can get a job, because that s really difficult here.

I VE LIVED HERE SINCE 1989 AND LOVE IT! IF YOUR INTO NATURE- ITS A GREAT PLACE TO LIVE. WITHIN 1 HOUR-SKI,BEACH S,MOUNTAINS, AND MORE. JOBS ARE HARD TO GET NOW- SO LOOK BEFORE MOVING. THE DOWNTOWN SCENE IS COOL- BUT I M INTO NATURE AND THIS IS WERE YOU CAN YOU CAN GET BOTH. FOR HOUSING AND JOBS -LOOK ON CL

Several friends of mine live there and absolutely love it. They moved from the Bay Area. They find it very cultural, good music scene, cheaper than SF, and more laid back. And it s easier to get a job there too, at least if you re in the tech scene.
