Neither. Try the ladies mile area that runs along sixth avenue between 14th Street and 23rd street. You can hit Burlington Coat factory, Filene s basement, Marshall s and Loehmans (Loehmans is one block west at 7th Avenue and 18th street.)Or you may want to hit New York s historic textile district which is located between Wall Street and Tribeca. Clothing stores in this area include: Century 21, Dijone, Daffy s, Syms, Dress Barn and many others. Look for the stores on Nassau Street, lower Broadway, Broad and Rector among others. There is also superb shopping at the South Street Seaport, although not as cheap.
You could try the Woodbury Common Premium Outlets. If you are fine with the rails, follow the MetroNorth train tips below and be sure to hold on to your rail ticket.
