What should I wear for New Years in New Orleans? -

I am going to the Sugar Bowl this year, which is in New Orleans, which means I will be spending my New Year s in New Orleans! But, I m not sure what to pack, as the weather is completely different from where I live (Ohio). I m not sure if I should pack a heavy or light coat, scarves, or gloves? Someone please help!

even if it s really cold unless your going to be on the top of a building for New years eve you probably won t need the heavy coat.bring the scarf and gloves just in case.if you ll be walking around the French Quarter don t wear your most expensive shoes.

I have to say yours is a difficult question to answer. Winter weather here is feast and famine. We can find ourselves using the air conditioner in the morning and later that evening can be using the heater. I ve had visitors from a notoriously cold country talk about how cold it is was here when they visited. The wind combined with 80% humidity and cold weather will cut you to the bone. Those same visitors a week later were sun bathing in the back yard in 60 degree weather, (we all thought they were nuts). In general I d say that it s going to be cold, but I can t promise you it will be cold. I d say your best bet would be to layer your clothes, bring a scarf, a pair of gloves, and I m not sure what the light coat v the heavy coat would be, but a wool pea coat or lined trench coat combined with layered clothing should get you through. Then there is always the option of a hot toddy or irish coffee break somewhere before you go back out. : )

Things can change over night. It can be high 50 s and then over night turn to the 30 s I would bring a light coat and gloves to be safe. I wear my light north face when it gets cold here. Your best bet is to check the weather when you are packing. There has been new years eve when a nice tank top and pants were fine and some when it has very very cold. I never wore scarves here. Gets to hot.Check the weather before you come. That is the best you can do.

Jude s got it. I work with a guy from Michigan, lives here now. He always bichez about how cold it is. That is due to the fact that it is a wet cold. That moisture in the air adds to the affect. Layer it up, thin gloves, light scarf. Maybe a wind breaker type jacket or something with Gore Tex to ward off the moist wind. Remember, for the game you re going to be in the dome so you want to choose somehting you could take off and tie around your waist so you won t burn up.

Take the advice from Jude. Pack for highs in the upper 50s and lows around 40. Check the forecast the day before you leave home and make any needed packing adjustments.

Moving from Europe to the U.S. (East Coast). What was your experience like? -

I m considering moving to the U.S. (East Coast) and work as a software engineer there...Any Europeans in this newsgroup who moved from Europe to the U.S. ?Any experiences you would like to share? Is it worth it?What s the work culture like, work environment, benefits, vacation etc.?I understand that it doesn t make any sense to make generalizations when it comes to the U.S. because it is such a big and diverse country. However, I always think it is worth hearing about other people s experiences(bad and good) to get an idea about what it _might_ be like. So - to stress it - I m not looking for generalizations, but more individual experiences.Americans who ve moved the other way (from the U.S. to Europe) are welcometo join the discussion.

To legally work in the United States an American company must sponsor you for a work visa. Those are extremely hard to get with the U.S. in a recession and 1 in 9 Americans out of work. Luckily for you a Degree in I.T/ Engineering is one of the few careers that may qualify you. Now all you need is that sponsor. Good Luck.PS: At the present time the Washington D.C. area is relatively prosperous compared to the rest of the U.S.

Can anyone recommend a hotel and restaurants in New York City? -

I need some recommendations for hotels restaurants in New York City.?I ll be in New York for several days the week before December and I m looking for recommendations for hotels and restaurants. I m not looking to spend too much on a hotel (nothing extravagant). I don t plan on spending too much time in the room. Something in a good neighborhood near a lot of things. I m thinking near Times Square.Restaurant wise, I don t want anything too touristy. I ve done that already. I would like good food and service nothing totally vegan or sushi. Any recommendations on things to do for fun while I m there. Daytime nightime.

I don t know too much about hotels. For restaurants, I can recommend a couple of things. Times square and theme restaurants are overpriced and usually mediocre. Two blocks west of there is Ninth Ave where you will find score3s of restaurants where locals eat. Many ethnic cuisines are represented here. They are mostly concentrated between 42nd and 57th street. A little further south, at 37th street is an NY icon known as Manganaro s Hero-Boy. Italian style plates and heroes reasonably priced. Possibly the best Hot Dogs in NY can be found on 7th ave and 37th street at Papaya King. One restaurant that I have always enjoyed going to is a Spanish restaurant simply called Spain and is on 13th Street, just west of Sixth Ave. Skip the appetizers, they will bring several complimentary. Many people enjoy walking around Greenwich Village, which is where this place is. You can also find music clubs in the area. While in NY look at those boxes on the corners with the free newspapers in them, they have a lot of entertainment listings in them and usually come out on Thursday. The best ones for that purpose are Village Voice, NY Press, and Time Out NY. You could also check the internet for their websites.
