Trip to Maine or Chicago? -

Ok... I m from the Carolina and having two options for winter break: either go to Chicago or Maine. Since its my first time to either of the places, I m in need of help to choose from either of them. Your reply would be helpful. Please help!!!

Chicago all the way, although I am a homer. There is more to do in Chicago. http://www.chicagotraveler.com/chicagos-

Be prepared for snow. In Main you can go cross country skiing. And have the place to your self.Chicago, the sears tower, the museums, the stores are all open. There is skiing in Wisconsin. Are you a city person, or a country person.

Where can I have a romantic amp; affordable vacation that is within driving distance (lt;10 hrs) from Georgia? -

Due to scheduling issues, we are looking at a 4 night vacation during early June. I don t want to spend a lot of time on the road, nor do I want to spend a fortune. I want it to be romantic and not focused around kids/family activities. I don t want to spend our vacation in the room ;) Because we are newlyweds, I also have to be cautious on how much the entire vacation is going to cost. We want to spend no more than $1,000 for the room, food, entertainment, and any other expenses. Any ideas?

Is New York, New York a lonely place to live in? -

I ve always dreamed of living there. Recently I went on a trip to New York. Yes, it s bustling with people, street vendors, and countless stores, but it has such an.. unfamiliar feel. Does that make sense? It s like..you re in a crowd of people but no one knows you or cares about you.So, is it true?

You wrote - you re in a crowd of people but no one knows you or cares about you. To be perfectly honest - this is one of the things I truly love about NYC! I call it being alone in a crowd. It means I can be myself, be private, not worry what everyone thinks of me every time I go out. People have private conversations in public here. You don t have to fear that you will run into someone you know everywhere you go. And when you DO run into someone you know, it s a pleasure rather than a pain!Of course people have friends here. But we don t have to be friends with everyone. The other people are just sort of background noise. Of course if there is a reason to pay attention to someone - if someone is lost and needs help for example - New Yorkers are usually great at helping out in situations like that. But we can t be friends with everyone we meet! We just see too many different people each day! It would be nuts! This is a great place to live, and some people actually love this lifestyle. I moved to a small town for a short time when my husband had a job there. I just hated it! Everyone I met knew me and knew my business. It was just awful! I prefer it here. Of course this kind of life isn t for everyone and maybe it isn t for you. Only you can tell. But lots of people love it here.

people are more likely to feel lonely when they are surrounded by big crowds. and even though the city can be lonely sometimes because everyone is so fast paced and in a rush to get everything done, once you ve familiarize yourself with the city and meet other people you ll feel less lonely and learn to love the city like we do.if you do decide to move here, you ll meet your neighbors, people you work with, or you can join clubs or other activities that can help you build connections and friendships. it can be intimidating and lonely when you first come to the city but once you re here and you get use to everything, you wouldn t want to leave.i ve lived in nyc all my life and i went to buffalo four four years for college. i cannot tell you how much more satisfying and entertaining the city is compare to other suburban areas.

Of course it feels unfamiliar, you don t live here. Most outsiders only see the hustle and bustle that makes up a part of New York because that s really all you can have access to if you re only here a short time. The warmth of any place comes from it s people and it sounds like you didn t connect with any while you were here.True, many New Yorkers are hard to get to know...it takes time before you can crack the outer shell of some of them, but once you do, they can be just as friendly as people anywhere else. But you can be as alone as you want or have as many acquaintances as you want here. True friends are harder to find and take much longer to cultivate as they are anywhere. There are some neighbourhoods in NYC where everyone knows their neighbours, the mailman s name, address the person they get their coffee from each morning by their first name. Groups of friends get together in each other s homes or go out together, families thrive here, the odd situations that can happen here can result in finding a friend in an unexpected place.Don t write us off just because you didn t look closely enough.

You re from out of town, of course you feel aloneWe who live here develop bonds with those around us we see often enough, more so when you re in a routine. Also, life is pretty fast paced. no, you re just going too slow :). I m just kidding, we have to move fast, time is money, and we have places to be.

only true because you arent from here and didnt know anyone, so you are right. No one knew you and no one cared about you. your just one in a crowd. just like anywhere, if you lived here you would make friends and have a social life. unless you suck, then no one will like you.

Someone a while back coined the phrase the lonely crowd. That is exactly what you are talking about. Many places that you go people don t even know their neighbors. It is not hopeless, you just need to try a little bit.

Well, oddly enough, as crowded as it is, yes, you actually can be lonely, very lonely, in New York City!NYers are very friendly and close with their own circle of friends, usually people they meet through work or through their boyfriends or girlfriends, but if you re not part of a circle of friends, it can be VERY hard to make friends here because, as you state, No one really stops to smell the flowers for very long if at all... and NYers really tend to mind their own business to the point where if you don t know them, you don t really even exist for them!I mean, for example, I live in an apartment building with five apartments on my floor and I have only a nodding relationship with one or two of the residents of those apartments, and have never even SEEN the residents of the other apartments. Unlike in the rest of the USA where it s assumed that you know your neighbors and probably chat with them all the time, here in New York City we don t even know who lives six inches away in the apartment right next door to us sometimes! So, it all depends, oddly enough, on where you work when you live here, because most folks are friends with people they work with, and the people that those people know, too, so, if you do move here and look for a job, be VERY aware that that will not only be your source of income, it will also be very much your source of a social life, too, so pick your place of employment VERY carefully, because it could spell the difference between success or failure here in New York City on a personal as well as a professional level, too!Good luck!

What scenic road in the mountains of Virginia should I drive through next weekend? -

I bought myself a Dodge Challenger R/T a few months back and since the weather man says it s supposed to be sunny next weekend, I want to take it up to the mountains with my mom for Thanksgiving. I live just outside of Richmond, Virginia. so I m looking for a pleasant, beautiful road to take up to the mountains and one that rolls and twists through them to drive. Not really looking for anything extreme, however, if a few good hairpins come up I might be inclined to smoke the tires a bit.I m open to all suggestions, looking for a 400 - 600 mile trip. Please tell me about and the name of the road and I ll look into all of them. Thanks guys!

What are the child care options at Walt Disney World? -

I have three little ones ages 18 months to 6 years. I am planning on a big week long vacation to Walt Disney World for us. The only problem is that I am a single mom I can t get anyone to come with me to help watch the kids to make it any less stressful. I was just wondering if any of the theme parks or hotels have a service where I can hire a babysitter to come with us on rides go through the parks. What other child care options does Walt Disney World have?

in fact there is a program called kids night out where a person that specializes in childcare can actually go to the parks with you and help you out. it can get very pricey though.here is a direct link to all of the childcare options disney world offers including the one i mentioned above:http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/recreat

Disney offers babysitting services, but they are at the hotel only... like if mom and dad wanted a romantic dinner alone kind of thing. The children have to be at least 4 yrs old and potty trained. There is something called Kids Night Out Caregivers. They will accompany you to the parks, but beware that for 3 kids it will cost you approximately $19/per hour. You can call 1-800-696-8105 (press 0 for reservations). http://allears.net/pl/childfaq.htm*~*~*~*Have you really asked everyone you can think of to join you? I can t believe that a trusted friend, co-worked or family member wouldn t want to accompany you to Disney World... Maybe you can offer to pay for their tickets?*~*~*~*I am a big fan of Disney, and don t think there is a single age that is too young for Disney, but if you haven t even checked in yet and are already feeling frazzled maybe you should push the trip back a few years. Disney World isn t going anywhere, and at least your kids will be a little older and a little more self-sufficient.

I have not heard of a sitter that comes to the park with you. The WDW resorts have kids clubs that they can stay at-play and eat. We did this for our 6 year old when we wanted a dinner to our self. She loved it. We were at the Polynesian. WDW resorts have babysitters you can hire to stay in the room with the child. these options are not cheap.

Question about downtown vegas casinos? -

we go once a year to downtown and i never really know what casino is the best to gamble at.i know it doesnt matter and if we are going to have luck we will and if not we wont no matter where we play-but i would just like some opinions on where anyone that goes dwontown likes best or thinks is a good place to try:)thank you

Most of the casinos have their specialties.* El Cortez has the lowest rake in poker in all of Las Vegas. Good place to cut your teeth.* El Cortez has the best edge in blackjack. There are fully 6 tables with single deck full pay blackjack. Virtually the only casino in Las Vegas with such good odds.* Main Street has the best craps rules in the city. They permit up to 20x odds on a baseline bet. There are only two casinos that permit 100x odds. (Eastside Cannery and Casino Royale on the strip). However, this is only a single table, and very few people can afford to risk that amount of money on a single roll of the dice.------------------------------------A quick explanation of free odds is that they are a bet with no house edge. But a casino must have a house edge somehow. So they require to place an initial bet with a small house edge. The second bet (the free odds) is constrained to be some maximum multiple of the first bet. ------------------------------------Ideally you want to have the smallest dollar amount for the first bet , and the largest permitted multiple for the free odds bet. Although a minimum bet of $3 happens during the day on occassion, usually it is $5 in the downtown casino. Since Main Street Casino permits 20X odds, you can bet up to $100 on the free odds bet (20X$5). The statistics say that if you make 495 pass line bets (which will probably take all weekend) you will lose 251 times and win 244 times (for a total loss of (251-244) * $5 or $35) . The free odds bets of up to $100 each time have no expectation of winning or losing. --------------The odds of the dice roll are expressed as lose/win/tie.If the odds are 6 /5 /25, the bet pays $120 for $100 or $6 for $5 bet. If the odds are 6/ 4 /26, the bet pays $150 for $100,or $6 for $4 be.. If the odds are 6/ 3 /27, the bet pays $200 for $100, or $6 for $3 bet..In other words the payout is exactly the same odds as the odds of you winning (there is no house edge).--------------Now you aren t required to take the maximum amount of free odds , but it s nice to play in a casino that permit large multiples. In contrast if you play craps on the strip they will require you to play $10 or $15 or $20 for the initial bet, and then only permit smaller multiples on the free odds . It is common to let you play 3X, 4X, or 5X depending on which number is rolled. That way you always are paid 6X your initial wager.======================Many people are horrified at the idea of playing $105 on each roll of a dice, but they are very happy to feed $1000 into the slot machines over the course of the weekend and often lose it $1 at a time. Dice players would rather make large bets knowing that the expected house edge is very low. Whether you win or lose is simply luck (or what is known as variance in statistical terminology).====================If you are horrified at making the large bets then go to Four Queens and play 6/9 video poker. It is called Jacks or Better and there is a small sign on the machine that says 6/9 video poker . There are only half a dozen machines. This game is easier to explain. -------------Video poker games pay at a different rate for a (1) a straight, (2) a flush, or (3) a full house. A 6/9 machine pays $6 to $1 for a flush, and $9 to $1 for a full house. Many other machines pay less, where the most common payout is $5 to $1 for a flush, and $8 to $1 for a full house. A 6/9 machine will return (on statistical average) over $99 for every $100 played. The nice thing is you get these odds without having to remember blackjack strategy or without playing a lot of money on each pull, Most casinos have pulled these video poker machines in favor of games with a higher house edge. But four queens casino still has a few for devotees.====================Finally for the devotee of the past, there are a handful of machines downtown that still let you play with real quarters, and plastic buckets.====================In general the bigger the jackpot, and the lower the minimum the larger the house edge. Megabuck slots are the most profitable machines in the house for casinos, but people are attracted to the possibility of winning life-changing money for a few dollar bet (much like state lotteries). Remember if you buy a lottery ticket on Tuesday, the odds are higher that you will be dead by Saturday than that you will win. However, hope springs eternal.

If you play blackjack, you want to try to find single deck blackjack games. Single deck is better than double deck. Double deck is better than multiple deck shoes. If you play craps, you want to find the highest odds offered. (After you make your point, you can increase your bet up to 100 times... depending on the rules of the casino. They advertise this as 100x odds or 50x odds etc.)So the answer depends on what games you prefer. If you like video poker and slots you need to find machines that pay back as close to 100% as possible. Fitzgeralds usually has a row or more of slot machines advertised as 103% payout or something like that. The low roller places like El Cortez and Gold Spike are usually the ones with the best odds for players. Avoid Golden Nugget! It s the nicest property downtown but the worst for gambling.

Downtown was once the locals hangout but now there are casinos closer to neighborhoods so most of us avoid Downtown. The odds are the same regardless what casino you enjoy, Downtown, Strip or Local.

I have found the best casinos to gamble at are The Four Queens, Fitzgerald s, and El Cortez.

I like the Four Queens, then Binions.

How do I find jobs at Hawaii? -

The same way you would find a job anywhere. Newspaper ads, employment agencies, internet sites that specialize in employment. But it isn t easy. You really need to have a profession or skill that will allow you to earn a good living. You will not make it on minimum wage, that much is for sure.

this is tough only ones ive seen are in the resort industry my wife is a r.n and im a emt im hawaiian and can legally own land and its very hard to find much of anything.

pray. and if that does not work turn to the Internet. and if that fails try and find a job locating agency. good luck.

Hows the traffic on the I-15 from Los Angeles to Las Vegas around Christmas? -

I m thinking about spending a few days in Vegas over Christmas... traveling by car from LA to Vegas on 12/24 and back on the 12/27. I ve spent Christmas in Vegas in the past but I flew there most of the time. I think traffic to Vegas on the I-15 would be impossible between 12/26 until after new years.. but hope it ll be lighter before 12/26. Please advise, thanks!

With the economy the way it is Vegas has become less popular, so I would guess it s an easy commute, your right about New years though, it will still be crowded then regardless of the economy.

Should be lighter than closer to NYE but best you think of rush hour traffic times

Shoplifting at age 21 in New York City for $481. Whats the punishment according to NY law? -

I am an attorney and I know a lot about this subject. Do not take this as creating an attorney-client relationship. You may, however, find it helpful.Theft of $1,000 is usually charged as petit larceny under the laws of New York, Penal, Section 155.25. It is a Class A misdemeanor. The maximum penalty is imprisonment for not more than one year and a fine of not more than $1,000. Penal, Section 70.15 and 80.15. (If you Google, Laws of New York you can read these laws yourself.) I emphasize that the penalties listed above are maximums. If you are a first offender, I think that actual jail time is unlikely. What you absolutely must do is consult an attorney. There may be a diversion program available. If you are admitted to the program and you complete the requirements successfully you may be able to avoid having a criminal conviction on your record. Even if diversion is not available, an attorney can advise you on your best strategy for minimizing the punishment you will have to face. Do not expect judges, prosecutors, or other court staff to give you good advice. It is not their job to protect your interests. Some of them perceive an unrepresented person as an opportunity to quickly process a case. That usually means that the consequences for you would be worse than if you are represented by a lawyer. If you cannot afford an attorney, contact the public defenders office. If you can t find that in the phone book, contact the court and ask who does the public defenders work in the area. Sometimes that work is assigned out to a list of private attorneys.Although the criminal proceedings are the worst part, unfortunately you will probably have to deal with something called a civil demand. Laws of New York, General Obligation Law, Section 11-105. The maximum penalty is $500. This is separate from the criminal proceedings. You may have already been banned from the store. If not, you can expect to receive a ban in the mail. If you go into the store again or even onto the parking lot, you can be arrested for criminal trespass.Your name may be entered into a national retail theft database, whether or not you are ever convicted. This database is not open to the public, but it is open to any member retail company. The retailers check this when anyone applies for a job and if your name shows up on it you are usually not hired. So, do not ever expect to work in retail.

Well here in the city, if the total value the item (s) is below $1,000 (in this case $481), you will be charged with Petit Larceny and criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree, both class A misdemeanors. If you shoplifted in large department store, such as Macy s, you are most likely to be detained, arrested, and booked. The police will probably give you what s a DAT (desk appearance ticket),although they are known to sometimes process shoplifters at Central Booking in Lower Manhattan. If that happens to you, you will seen by a judge in about 24 hours and released until the next court date. Please note, a desk appearance ticket is an order to appear in county court for an arraignment. When a DAT is issued, you are considered to be under arrest from an administrative standpoint. You must report to arraignment on the date shown on the DAT; from that point forward, your case is like any other legal case. If you fail to appear for a DAT, the prosecution can request and a judge can issue a bench warrant for your arrest. If you re convicted of the offense, you ll have a criminal record because shoplifting is classified as a misdemeanor crime in New York. A fines will be levy on you, which you ll have to pay, and you ll be ordered to do community service. Although some jail time is possible, it is not probable in this case.I hope this infomration is very helpful.Good luckNative New Yorker
