we are planning to visit houston, tx from Dec 24-26 this yr. are there any awesome Christmas light display and big Christmas events in Houston that we should not miss? thanks.

Lights in the Heights is nice. Also, Moody Gardens in Galveston has a beautiful set up. Pick up a free edition of Houston Press for shows.http://www.houstonpress.com

Angela,Light in the Heights is amazing! So much fun...and FREE! I m not a fan of the Moody Gardens thing. It s like paying to walk around looking at a bunch of plywood yard art.Take a look at our Houston Events Calendar. It s full of things to do in Houston, and there have been a lot of Christmas events listed recently. We maintain listings of all kinds of fun and interesting events going on in the Houston area. You can sort it by category and by date. New events are being added all the time so make sure you check back before your trip. Enjoy your trip!

Check out Lights in the Heights.

Yep... Those are probably the most known around town... :)

College student seeking beach house help...? -

I am a college student in Arizona and over spring break I would like to rent a beach house in San Diego for a few days with 7 of my friends. However... none of us are 21. Does any one have any experience or recommendations about this? I have found some great deals, but I need a place that allows 18 and over rather than 21 and over.

I m guessing you re not going to find anything. Owners put in those age restrictions in order to avoid Spring Breakers. You re paying the price for the immature and irresponsible students in the past who caused trouble and/or damage in the past, unfortunately.

What can I do to prepare to move out? -

I live in Orange County, CA. I have a roommate that s just as ready to move out as me. We want to move to Huntington Beach in a 1BR or 2BR; which means average rent is $1200/month. Right now I have about $500 saved up and I m hoping to have $1500 to move out with in the next month and a half.I already know about and pay for: insurance, gas, cell phone, $100 rent/ month, storage, car payments, school- classes and materials. I am renting a storage unit right now to put all my stuff into so I won t have to buy much when I move all at once. I will take any tips on how to save money before I move out. and tips on how to continuing saving money while I m moved in. I would also appreciate any advice on what to do, buy, look for, etc. before moving out. Any cool corner-cutters you know about tell me!

I, will instead, remind you of your rights and responsibilities as a renter to keep you from being sued. If you and your roommate have signed a lease you can not leave before the lease terminates without the WRITTEN permission of the landlord / property management company. You MUST give your landlord at least a 30 day WRITTEN notification of your intentions to move. Keep copies of everything. You can be charged an additional months rent if ANYTHING is left in the apartment after the last day of the month you leave. . Take pictures of EVERY room, and demand a walk through inspection on the last day of occupancy to avoid charges for excessive cleaning fees. EVERYTHING to do with renting MUST be in writing. The courts will not accept oral promises or contracts. It MUST be in writing. (Keep this to yourself) Your landlord is required to send you a WRITTEN statement of any money withheld from your security deposit for cleaning within 30 days. And when you move in to the new place take pictures of every room again to note the condition the apartment was in when you moved in.

I definitely wouldn t recommend moving there since its really pricey, and especially if you re not sure you will definitely get a job there before you move because its location is really expensive. Look for places more inland, maybe even Riverside if you have to and live there for like a year and then move after you re sure you have enough saved up and can get a job in Huntington. Try other cities...cheaper

Put everything in Craigs list or do a yard sales. Save all the money you can, grab a bag of clothes and car key and go.

save as much money as possible, have a decent job for at least 6 months, good credit history, and at least 3 friends who will give you a good renters recommendation (as if they were past landlords).

mhm

The thing that struck me was that you are spending money on a storage unit. Wasting it, IMHO. Pup s right about the rental laws. If you want a REAL eye-opening experience, read the stuff in the rental and real estate forum here on Y!A. You would not believe how many people signed a lease without reading it, and just accepting all the conditions in the lease. $500 isn t going to be enough. We generally recommend saving $7500 before moving. In order to save that much, you ll have to give up the luxuries, like eating out whenever you want, or getting the double-latte at Starbucks every morning. In fact, pretend you already have rent, and you should be saving that $1200 per month. Are you making $3000 per month? If not, moving out is a recipe for disaster.

I ve never actually moved out of a place before, but i can help. Save money by moving some of the stuff you own yourself, preferrably the more important stuff (cell phone, money, jewelry, etc.). If the storage unit should be stolen or something else should go wrong with it, what you ve lost isn t as valuable as what you still have. Also, when you do the school supplies thing, it may be easier if you buy the less expensive brands, or if the stuff you want is on sale. For example, buy pens that come with more per pack or are less expensive. You ll save money. Of course, if you are required to bring supplies, don t try to get out of that. I can t think of much else. Hope this helps.

Santa Anna stuck it to the Americans in the fort. Story has it that there were no survivors! Remember the Alamo! Means, no matter if you re outnumbered or not. Stand for what you believe in!

Two European factions fought each other for for colonial control of Native People s occupied territory. The English Speaking one lost the battle.

When? Last night? When Ozzy visited in 84? In 1836?

Is 17 degrees celsius cold in new orleans? -

Umm...Im writing a book and it s set in NEW ORLEANS in December and I live in London so i don t know if 17 degrees is cold or not...Help..?

17 degrees celsius is about 62 degrees farenheit, so that s not very cold to begin with, but with the humidity, that s pretty comfortable. Basically, if it s 62 degrees outside, I d probably be wearing a light sweater or something.

17C would be a normal high temperature for New Orleans in December, though slightly above average. A local would consider it cold once the temperature got down to about 5C.The weather can get quite cold in New Orleans but the city stays green all year most years as it rarely goes below freezing and almost never snows. We pay for the nice winters with brutally hot, humid summers.

0 degrees Celsius is freezing; 37 degrees Celsius is human body temperature; 17 is closer to freezing than human body tempThough it sometimes gets cold in New Orleans, it is rarely freezing. Usually New Orleans is exceptionally HOT and HUMID. In the U.S. we use Farenheit NOT Celsius. New Orleans would typically be between 70 and 110 Farenheit.

17 degrees celsius is the same temperature all over the world

maybe not

New Years 2010 in Times square? -

We are planning to go to times square on the 31st. I was wondering how far away from the front we would be standing if we got there at about 7pm. Is it free to go there and watch all the performances and who is performing this year? Thanks :) xox

One year, I went there at around 5-6pm and there were already so many people that we were only allowed to walk towards the area via Columbus Circle, which was 17 blocks north. We decided to turn around and just watch the ball drop from the television. If you want to see the ball, either go there a lot earlier or buy a ticket for the T.G.I.Fridays or Olive Garden in Times Square.

If you got there at 7 you ll probably not be let in. people start showing up for this that morning. who is preforming and what not is dependent on who you re nearby. the Entertainment is network specific, since this is a public area no network can have a right to sole coverage.another example, though tied to NBC, ABC and CBS can cover the macy s parade on thanksgiving for same reason, it uses public streets.

you ll be wayyy in the back...i don t even know if you ll find a place to stand in times square by that time. if you want a good place, you ll need to get there no later than 2:30 p.m. and you ll have to stand there all day, because if you don t, someone will immediately take your spot. good luck.
