What would be the best neighborhood in NYC for me to live in?? Help!? -

Hi, I m leaving Iraq and am going to attend CCNY in UWS Manhattan. I m trying to find a neighborhood in Manhattan (money won t be an issue) that would suit me best. I obviously really like city life...i.e. the nightlife, skyscrapers, crowds, etc. From what I hear, the UWS and UES might not be the most happening places, although I could be wrong. Chelsea maybe? SoHo? Midtown? ( I hear not too many people actually live in Midtown?)...I basically want to find a busy, funky, happening neighborhood where I can fit in (22 year old student)...I do NOT want to be in a calm and quite residential neighborhood, and would love to live near or among the nyc skyscrapers! Sorry if this question is a bit odd...I ve only been to NYC a couple times when I was younger and don t remember much about the place!

The UWS and UES are both residential and quiet. If you want busy/funky/happening/young people, I would suggest the East Village or Chelsea. Chelsea if you re gay, East Village if you re not. (I m mostly kidding about that.) Stay below 14th street.Skyscrapers are mostly office buildings, so the neighborhoods full of skyscrapers (midtown and financial district) have no nightlife and I would not recommend living there, based on your description.

SoHo is my favorite! I ve never lived in NYC but my best friend does so I ve visited frequently. That s my favorite part of town, too. Also, I really like Greenwich village. It s super cool and very trendy. Best of luck and welcome home soon!

I think Harlem would fit you perfectly. Its very high class now and its not to far away from where you want to be. Its also not to residential but has a huge population of people your age doing what ya doing.

If money is no object, I think Chelsea could work for you since it would give you nice access to clubs. No skyscrapers in that area, through.

The Upper West Side will be perfect, you will be about 10 to 15 minutes from CCNY. UWS is a very active area, so you ll be find.Good luck

Try Upper West Side. It s really nice. Good luck!

if money is no object..central park west.

Visa process to america? -

im a 23year old man, from the UK, and im planning on travelling in 2011, to america, australia, new zeland, canada and mexico. but im having some problems understanding the visa process.....for america i want to stay for around 6 months, australia 3 months, and the other 3 6 weeks.iv been mainly looking up the american visa, and i know i need a B-2 visa, but im confused as to how to get one......i know i need to fill out a DS-156 and DS-157 form online, and print them out, but how long are they valid for?how much is a B-2 visa?how much is the visas for australia, mexico, new zeland and canada?any suggestions would be appreciated.

You would apply at the nearest U.S. Embassy. 6 months is the absolute maximum you can stay in the U.S. without applying for permanent immigration status, and while you re here you probably would not legally be allow to accept any type of work.

You need to fill the DS-156 form online and print it out afterwards; hand-written forms are not accepted. The DS-157 needs to be printed out and filled using a black ink ballpoint-pen. Since based on your age administrative processing is required which may take up to 60 days I recommend to apply for the visa early in advance. Visa issued in the United Kingdom are valid for 10 years, with multiple entries and a stay of 6 months can be granted for each visit. The fee is $131.I recommend to read the website of the Swedish Embassy; it has excellent information what type of documents need to be forwarded. http://stockholm.usembassy.gov/consulate ..For the appointment for a visa interview see the website of the London Embassy: http://london.usembassy.gov/cons_new/vis The waiting time for a visa interview is 4 working days at present. You may stay visa exempted in Canada and Mexico for up to 180 days.http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/visas ..http://www.inm.gob.mx/EN/index.php?page/ ..New Zealand also grants a six months visa waived stay for British passport holders.http://glossary.immigration.govt.nz/Visa ..For Australia you DO NOT need to get an ETA through a travel agent and pay the service fee of AU$20 [10] and whatever the travel agent charges for the service.http://www.immi.gov.au/visitors/tourist/ ::European passport holders can apply online for a free of charge e-visitor. The e-visitor is a label-free visa; you will receive an e-mail from the Australian Immigration Service stating that you are eligible to travel. The e-visitor is valid for one year and can be used for several visits and up to 3 months stay.http://www.immi.gov.au/e_visa/evisitor.h ..http://www.immi.gov.au/visitors/tourist/ ..

You simply need to follow the directions for those forms on line, then you will get a page instructing you on how to make an interview appointment. At that time, you will get a page telling you how long the wait is for interviews and how long it takes after the interview to get your visa if you are accepted. The cost is exactly $131.00usd and you will be instructed how to pay that. Do Not fill out the forms until you are ready to go in for an appointment...appointment wait times are usually less than one month. You do not need a visa for Mexico, just a tourist card you will get on the plane or at the border. You do not need a visa for Canada for a visit of up to 6 months. You do not need a visa for New Zealand. See 1st site below and scroll down to the list that shows all the countries you may enter without a visa...they are on that list. You do need an ETA visa for Australia. See 2nd site. The fee is 10 pounds.

Is the university of Santa Barbara hard to get into? -

has anyone applied to or gone to this school?

UCSB is kind of difficult to get into, but you should apply even if you think you re not quite qualified, as long as you meet the UC Eligibility Index, and if you re a CA resident, have an A - G gpa of 3.0. They admitted almost 50% of the Fall 2009 Freshman applicants, admitted Freshmen applicants had a mean 3.85 gpa, 1801 SAT. Just about 20% of those admitted enroll. http://www.admissions.ucsb.edu/QuickFact(For comparison, very selective schools, like the Ivies, admit 7 - 10% of applicants and 85% are qualified to attend. So UCSB isn t too bad.)Here is info to help you:http://www.admissions.ucsb.edu/Selectionhttp://www.admissions.ucsb.edu/SelectionAlso, you might consider a community college transfer program. Here is an example:http://www.pasadena.edu/transfer/specialLast year UCSB had to cancel full classes 5 days before school started. SBCC canceled 120 classes. Hopefully next Fall will be different.Good luck!

There is a mixture of requirements only you can answer. Go to the website and look at their requirements for GPA, SAT and Major courses. That should let you know personally. Are you a proven JC student or just coming out of HS. Go to the website to know for sure.

i was thinking of applying to it. it is a pretty hard school to get into. especially now because of all the budget cuts in the CA education system. i guarantee you will need at least a 4.0 to get in out of high school now.

Yes, it tough to get into. It s the 12th best public school in the country. With perfect weather, ideal location, and lots of social activities; doesn t everyone want to go there?

Do you need a passport to get back into the US traveling by land in 2010? -

I am planning on going to Canada in a couple months and I need to know if I need to buy a passport to get back into the US.

Yes, unless you hold a US.Passport Card or an Enhanced Driver s license or Enhanced ID issued by Michigan, New York, Vermont, or Washington state.http://getyouhome.gov/html/lang_eng/inde ..

Yes, the US government now requires a valid passport for every returning US citizen from overseas whether by land or air. But for land crossing into Canada and Mexico, you can apply for a passport card instead of a passport book. A passport card is cheaper it s only $45, but you cannot use this for arriving at any US airports. A book costs $100 but you can use this anywhere be it by land or air travel.

While you can go into Canada from the US with out a passport, you DO need one to get back into the United States.

Yes. Getting into the USA from anywhere requires a passport.

You need a passport now just to get into Canada. so yes you do need a passport

Yes.

Im moving to Dallas, what can you tell me? -

All I know is that it is hot, humid, and pretty. Let me know of anything I need to know, anything interesting, and places to shop. Near Plano or Richardson?

I love shopping in Dallas!

It s ok. You posted in the Houston category but that doesn t mean we can t answer it. I am a Houstonian who has moved to Dallas for work/grad-school. I wasn t too fond of Dallas years ago but after making the move I have come to appreciate it. It is not Houston As Houston has its own charm so does Dallas. I will say that I find Dallas to be cleaner than Houston, a lot more wealthier businesses and client-tel, people tend to be snootier in Dallas based on what Dallasites say but I don t see much difference. Legacy Shops in Plano is very nice. They have it all. I d rather live in Plano than Richardson if I was raising a family. Plano is a distant drive from the core of Dallas but it does distant itself from the middle class and crime that is prevalent in Dallas (watch A E s First 48). Makes you wonder if Dallas has as much crime or more than Houston. All in all I d choose Plano if I was settling down... the next choice would be Frisco. There is life over yonder in the distant north side of Dallas :) Being that I am still young and not faced with responsibilities of raising a family I chose to live in the hustling and bustling mix of uber-trendiness and young professional sprawling among lounges, restaurants, and boutique shops all within the walking distance of vibrant Uptown (located near Downtown Dallas). This is where daily living meets distinction and elegance for the workaholics who prefer to live next to their office, where students prefer to live it up off trust funds, where sophisticated individuals (or at least what they may think in their head) go to spend money, laugh, wine, dine, and shop. The exact replica of this could be found in Plano at the Shops at Legacy for a more mature crowd. Plano is a great locale among others in Dallas where many of the new-money is going to and where wealth is abundant. Richardson is just a suburbia that boasts alot of old and new money but I can t say much about it as I don t have much experience spending time there. Lastly, Dallas is not humid. No where near how my hometown of Houston is. It gets alot chillier living up in North Texas and it isn t rare to see snow come down.

You re right about the heat scenery but I think you goofed this is the Houston section sweetie . You will get more reponses in the Dallas section. Plano Richardson used to be nice areas but IDK about now. Colin Creek used to be a real nice mall.

You might ask in the Dallas category, NOT the Houston category.

I agree, posting this in the Dallas section will get you more results, and they will probably be more accurate.

Dallas is not as humid as Houston.

They have the Dallas Cowboys! woooo go cowboys lol

post this in the dallas section. maybe they can help you since this is the houston travel section. what would we know?

Is there any place in miami or near areas where i can find a cheap mri/neurologist cheap for my dog? -

for my little 4 months old maltese (dog). I am really worry cause I went to a hospital for dogs and they charge me $2000 just for mri, please I need help.

Yeah there is in Miami and other areas in Miami-Dade County. I can t tell you specific details right now as I don t remember exactly where right now, but when I had a my puppies I used to go to one that was recommended by a friend and it was extremely cheap and they do an amazing job, I ve never had a problem. I would recommend to do a little search in google, or while reading The Miami Herald you could look there. Sorry I can t tell you exactly where right now, but I know you will find at least some because if I ever don t find what I m looking for in The Miami Herald which is rare, I just do a quick google search and problems solved. Good luck.
