What would be the best neighborhood in NYC for me to live in?? Help!? -

Hi, I m leaving Iraq and am going to attend CCNY in UWS Manhattan. I m trying to find a neighborhood in Manhattan (money won t be an issue) that would suit me best. I obviously really like city life...i.e. the nightlife, skyscrapers, crowds, etc. From what I hear, the UWS and UES might not be the most happening places, although I could be wrong. Chelsea maybe? SoHo? Midtown? ( I hear not too many people actually live in Midtown?)...I basically want to find a busy, funky, happening neighborhood where I can fit in (22 year old student)...I do NOT want to be in a calm and quite residential neighborhood, and would love to live near or among the nyc skyscrapers! Sorry if this question is a bit odd...I ve only been to NYC a couple times when I was younger and don t remember much about the place!

The UWS and UES are both residential and quiet. If you want busy/funky/happening/young people, I would suggest the East Village or Chelsea. Chelsea if you re gay, East Village if you re not. (I m mostly kidding about that.) Stay below 14th street.Skyscrapers are mostly office buildings, so the neighborhoods full of skyscrapers (midtown and financial district) have no nightlife and I would not recommend living there, based on your description.

SoHo is my favorite! I ve never lived in NYC but my best friend does so I ve visited frequently. That s my favorite part of town, too. Also, I really like Greenwich village. It s super cool and very trendy. Best of luck and welcome home soon!

I think Harlem would fit you perfectly. Its very high class now and its not to far away from where you want to be. Its also not to residential but has a huge population of people your age doing what ya doing.

If money is no object, I think Chelsea could work for you since it would give you nice access to clubs. No skyscrapers in that area, through.

The Upper West Side will be perfect, you will be about 10 to 15 minutes from CCNY. UWS is a very active area, so you ll be find.Good luck

Try Upper West Side. It s really nice. Good luck!

if money is no object..central park west.
