HOLIDAY NEW YORK!? help? -

hey guys so my mum has finally caved in and said she will take me and my sister to new york we are so excited!so if anyone has been befor where have you stayed and how long for? where would be the main places to Visit etc ect any info please share?xx

We just got back from NYC about 3 months ago and I m definitely going back! We were there for 3 days, but I think 5 days should be enough. Get the 3+ day NewYorkPass, it will save you a lot of money! http://www.newyorkpass.com/ Also, buy your NYC T-shirt ( 5 for 10.99) at Times SQ.Around Empire State building, they have a lot of cheap NYc sounviers. Hotel wise, book early. We stayed in Chinatown (Hotel 91) but it s clean and fairly cheap- though you can heard the subway at night, it didn;t bother us. Becareful of big and cheap hotel, I heard it s not clean,, The last thing you want is to bring home some bed bugs.Broadway Show: If Wicked was too expensive ( it was for us), so we went to see Fuerza Bruta , we got a coupon online and pay half price =) so check online! .. Let put it this way, we will never forget this show.. we had a blast!http://www.broadwaybox.com/ ? for cheap shows! Ps. We finally watched Wicked In San Francisco, it was great!

If you re coming to NY, I seriously suggest you go see The Rockettes and the giant Christmas tree in Rockefeller Center. I ve been all over NY, and Manhattan is definitely the place to be... if you like huge crowds and big shows. If you re looking for something calmer, ice skating in Bryant Park, I think... And of course, if none of those fit then you can just hang out on 42nd St/ Times Square. shopping central. great displays during the holidays.I ve actually seen the Rockettes every year since I was 6, and they never get old. It s so classic. New York City Ballet is good too. I saw the Nutcracker last year and it was so cool. You d totally love it. Hope I helped! Have fun!

Is It Possible For a tsunami to happen in san fransisco ? -

I live right off the water o.o

Yes, and tsunamis have hit several times (keep in mind a tsunami is moreso defined by a long traveling wave cause by some natural disaster... if that wave is 1 foot high, it s still a tsunami). A 20-30 foot tsunami is considered quite high, and that obviously wouldn t even get over the cliffs. Even a 100 foot tsunami - which, while they ve happened, are extremely rare and almost mythical - wouldn t get over the cliffs. So the only neighborhood of SF really prone to a tsunami is the Sunset (and parts of the Richmond - the couple streets nearest GG Park.During the 1906 earthquake, a tsunami hit and flooded the Sunset through what s now about 25th Ave. So, I guess if you live in the Sunset between the Great Highway and about 25th then you may have a valid concern. Otherwise... not a problem.

Yes it can. In fact, when I lived in Marin county(just north of SF) we actually did have a tsunami warning once. Nothing happened, but lots of people went to a shelter which was in the Marin county civic center at that time. But, the chances are far less then having a major earthquake in the city.

Anywhere within travel distance of the waves being generated would be at risk. Here is a good article about tsunamis and San Francisco. It references the 1964 Alaskan quake which killed 11 people in Crescent City.So to answer your question: YEShttp://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cg

It might affect the west side of the city if one hit. Inside the Golden Gate, though, you might not even notice a thing until the news reports started coming in.

possible, this is earthquake state and since we are near the falut lines. You should watch the movie 2012- it was a cool flick.

Do you like living in New York? -

After finishing up my education, i would love to move to New York. Personally i think it s amazing. But, i need an opinion of a person who is actually living in New York at the moment. What is it like? What is it to do there?Do you like living where you live?In what kind of house/apartment do you live?Etc...And oh, pictures of the real new york life(that you have taken...)are really appreciated...I m tired of google pictures. Thank you very much in advance.

I love it! I ve been here for two years. And what is there NOT to do here? I really don t like my living situation right now and it s also VERY expensive to live here, so those are negatives for me. I think it depends want you want out of life. I m a big city girl (originally from Detroit) with big city dreams. If you come from a place where people are basically well mannered, etc. You may not like it. People here are always on edge, but a lot of natives may not think they are because it s just the way of life here. All I can say is visiting and moving here are totally two different things. Good luck.

too much pollution and people...its too crowded

Wheres better to relocate, Victorville or Palmdale? -

You might want to include what you are looking for, what you need to have.

How do you apply a student metro card? -

The green kinds thats for students.

The school you attend issues them based on the grade you are in and the distance between your house and your school. You cannot apply for one independent of your school. And you cannot apply for one as a visitor. They are only for elementary, middle and high school students. Not for college or beyond. If you go to high school in NYC and you think you are entitled to a student metrocard, ask your guidance counselor.

Depends on school grade, you get Student MetroCard.Student MetroCard issued by New York City Board of Education is only allowed to be used on Metropolitan Transport Authority s Bus, Subway, Staten Island Ralway including Roosevelt Island Tramway operated by Roosevelt Island Operation Corp.Student MetroCard issued in Nassau County is only accepted on Long Island Bus uses only.Student MetroCard issued in Westchester County is only accepted for Bee-Line Buses only.

how i remember it is, if you live a certain distance from the school you have to go to the main office and ask them if your eligible for a student metrocard , if you are, they will give you a form you have to fill out and when its completed you will receive a card within a few days. What you can do while your waiting for the metrocard is, ask the school for a letter that informs the bus driver your waiting for a card, that way you wont have to pay while waiting for the card. Since this happen to me you, should keep in mind that you only have 3 rides in the card, each ride gives you one transfer, so if you use it up your card is done for the day and even if you dont use up your rides after a certain time it will stop working mines would stop working at 7 o clock or 6 cant remember. it tells you what time it stops at the back of your card, and it doesnt work on weekends, thats from my experience i had to learn the hard way the rules to this card. sorry for the long answer Hope i helped ^_^

If you attending public or private schools in the 5 boroughs of New York City, Nassau or Westchester Counties, you will need to go the principal s office and request for one. The card is distributed every school year and you only get two cards per year, so try not to loose it or damage it.Good luck

How much of a risk are tornadoes/hurricanes in California/the West Coast? -

I know that the main risk on the west coast is seismic activity, but are there hurricane risks as well?

Not really, they do have high winds storms but it is called a storm nothing more. Tornados have happened in many West Coast areas, including Water ones.

From time to time, we do get tornadoes in the Central Valley. That s the only part of the state that really gets the kind of atmospheric conditions required for tornadoes. On average, the state gets something like 4 tornadoes a year, and they are pretty weak F0 ones - strong enough to smash out some car windows, but not really catastrophic damage.Hurricanes, not so much. The water in the Pacific is much too cold to sustain a hurricane. The cold water is why surfers here have to wear wetsuits. As someone mentioned, there is a rare but possible risk of a tropical storm, but it s not something to really worry about. Now, we do get severe weather. We get some pretty bad winter storms, sometimes warm storms from tropical water, but more often colder storms from more northern water. We sometimes get near hurricane-force winds with these storms that knock out trees and power lines. We get snow storms at high elevations, and sometimes at much lower elevations. In rain storms, we can get flooding. Our summers are dry, and right now our water supplies are perilously low after several years of drought (the storms we have been getting are not enough). In the mountains, the weather is quite different, and they get frequent thunderstorms in the summer.

Earthquakes, mudslides, and wildires are enough.California has felt the effects of tropical storms four times since 1900. A tropical storm made landfall near San Pedro in 1939. The remnants of three storms that were previously hurricanes were felt in the state in 1972, 1976, and 1997. The reason is that the eastern Pacific is much colder than the western Atlantic. Summer water temperatures off San Diego are similar to what one would find off New York at the same time.

hurricane risks , yes, eathquake risks, yes, however on the west coast there are mountains and tornados seldom occur because the mountains interfere with the wind pattern.

very very low even hurricanes

Where is a 18+ rave in San Francisco on New Years Eve of 2009-2010? -

Personally, I will be attending Sea of Dreams. It s expensive, but promises to be amazing.http://www.seaofdreamsnye.com/ for more info.

Hmmmmm, I would try going to like the ferry building, possibly at the slanted door. I would try going to momo s right near the ball park or somewhere around there. Just go to one of the many clubs :)
