What is the land in Louisiana like? -

I am writing a story set in the parish of Ascension for my coursework and I have no idea how to describe the area, is it green and grassy? Bare and dry? Literally any brief description would help Thank you x

It is very flat and soggy. When you walk on it, it feels springy and soft. If you dig you will probably hit water. We have to drive pilings deep into the ground before we build anything, and a lot of the cemeteries have graves above ground. There are bayous everywhere. In southern Louisiana, it rarely freezes, so the grass stays green, and the kudzu is taking over a lot of rural areas. There are beautiful cypress trees in the swamps, with knees sticking above the water so the tree s roots get air. The big oak trees have spanish moss draping from the branches, swaying in any breeze. Think of being in a hothouse...that is what it feels like and smells like here. Lush.

I live next to Ascension in Livingston parish go shopping mainly in Ascension =3In general, it can be damp. We have large rivers several canals. It rains alot in during some seasons sometimes it even floods peoples yards who live next to water sources. In the cities of Ascension its pretty typical. Southern Louisiana has lush greenery, humid air, nutrient rich soil, so most city areas typically bring in that luck have plants everywhere. They seem like other cities I ve been too but with more plant life.

flat, swampy, sinking heh

Green, grassy, lots of woods, always wet enough to squish between your toes.

grass. pine trees. flat. no hills whatsoever.

What to do in New Orleans? -

I m staying in New Orleans on New Years Eve and New Years Day for the Sugar Bowl. I have never stayed there and am a little apprehensive. I m only going with 2 other friends, not really a big group. What should I do to prepare for this trip? Safety wise. What should I be aware of? What should I steer clear of?

I have lived here all my life and nothing has ever happened to me, my friends, or my family! Stay on lit streets. Stay away from walking along and making yourself look vulnerable. If you do not know where you are going take a cab. United Cab is who I have account with and they are great! United Cab number is 504-522-9771. Stay away from bad, and unlit neighborhoods. As long as you stay away from Drug infested areas you will be fine. Be safe and have FUN!Drink!Pat O s, Lafittes Blacksmith shop, Columns Hotel Bar( Not in Quarter But has awesome big porch on st. charles avenue), Absinthe House, , Bombay clubFavorite FQ BAR- Lafittes and Pat o s, Carousel BarRestaurantsBrennans, ( Best Brunch) Awesome redfish and turtle soupJaquimos( Best Alligator Cheesecake and blackened red fish), Rio MarCoopsNapolean HouseCommanders Palace(MY FAV) Muriels(Turtle Soup, Goat Cheese Crepes, and Pecan crusted drum),Clover GrillCoffee Pot (FAVORITE RED BEANS and breakfast),Upperline, Yummy turtle soup and fishLiletteGumbo Shop,Napolean House( FAV. Tipitinas has cajun dancing every sunday night. Go to Preservation Hall.Haunted Places; Le Petit Theater, The Pontalba, Pirates Alley, The Lalaurie House, St. Louis Cathedral and Lafittes Blacksmith shop, The Pharmacy are a few.

You don t need to do anything special to be safe in New Orleans - just use the same basic common sense needed in every city in the world. New Orleans made the news because drug dealers were/are killing each other in disputes and the still-reduced population meant the murder rate skyrocketed (rate = population divided by crimes). Other crime is at or below the national average for cities. To be blunt, stay away from people who buy/sell/use illegal drugs (especially crack cocaine) and your chances of being the victim of anything worse than a parking ticket or hangover are very low. There is really a lot to do but almost all attractions will be closed on New Year s Day. New Year s Eve night will include a Times Square type event at Jackson Square followed by fireworks. Reservations are critical if you want to have dinner in a restaurant downtown on NYE.http://frenchquarter.com/http://www.neworleansonline.com/neworleahttp://www.pubclub.com/newyear/neworleanRestaurant suggestions: http://www.10best.com/New_Orleans,LA/ResAn incomplete guide to bars clubs: http://www.10best.com/New_Orleans,LA/Nigwww.neworleanscheapdrinks.comAbout certain alcoholic beverages: Realize that some famous drinks are VERY potent compared with regular cocktails that have only 1 to 1 ? ounces of alcohol. For example, a Hurricane is basically 3 or 4 ounces of rum in something like red Kool-Aid, and a Hand Grenade has at least 4 ? ounces of Everclear + rum + vodka mixed with melon liquor. They dont necessarily taste like an alcoholic beverage and it is easy to over-indulge.I hope you have a great time!

Don t go to Bourbon Street.it s filthy, the people are disgusting, and the whole area smells like piss.

Las Vegas Hotel for 2 days. Finding a cheap and convenient hotel? -

I m going to Las Vegas. This is the first time I come to Las Vegas.Do you know which hotel is the best ?Actually I m finding a cheap hotel. Can you suggest me a hotel that near the downtown, outlet?Which hotel did you stay when you come to Las Vegas?

Seriously right now they are all cheap. Average price on the Strip right now is $138 a night (and that means they were averaging in the Wynn, Caesars, Bellagio). Bellagio rooms are going for about 25% of the usual rate.As far as the best that s up to you. What do you plan to do? If you stay in the hotel you get discounts on the restaurants and shows that hotel offers. If you particularly want to go to a good club at night you want to be close to it. My favorites are Paris and NY-NY. Paris is fairly center strip. However next time I think I m gonna stay at Planet Hollywood b/c it s center as well and has a great Fat Tuesdays (which is my #1 destination on the strip). I have very few don t . I wouldn t do Circus Circus or Stratosphere. Not Sahara unless you are 70+ years old. Tropicana is too run down for me too. I don t like to stay at Mandalay Bay. The coconut smell is too strong and I never want to be at the furthest end. I ve had friends who enjoyed the Luxor. I want to stay at the MIrage of course but that s still out of budget.Off Strip, I actually stay at the Embassy Suites a lot. They have a shuttle to the strip and free breakfast every morning but for the first few trips it s definitely worth it to stay on the Strip. Don t stay downtown. Unless you have a sentimental attachment to it, just don t. I highly recommend the Embassy. Parking is easy and the free breakfast really makes up for a lot after a hard night in Vegas.

Stay at the Main Street station if downtown is what you want. The California is downtown as well and caters to Asian style gaming. All downtown properties are affordable. When I came to Vegas for the first time I stayed at an off strip local s casino called Fiesta Rancho. Now that I live here, I feel that I made a good choice since I m not into the constant crowds that overrun the strip. If you want to consider something that s dead smack in between the strip and downtown you should consider the Sahara hotel. It s a nice establishment, has the only $1 blackjack table in Las Vegas, Nascar cafe is inside and the movie Ocean s 11 was filmed there! Circus Circus is very affordable and on the strip. If you have small kids; they ll love the 24 hour circus and the Adventuredome amusement park located on the property. Adults will enjoy Slots-A-Fun which is also on Circus property! Have fun!

The nicest cheap hotel is Excalibur. I would actually avoid Circus Circus, Stratosphere, and Sahara. Imperial Palace is okay - it has a great location, but is pretty old and beat up. You can sometimes find good rates at Luxor, Flamingo, and Tropicana as well.If you want to stay downtown, the Golden Nugget is the nicest place.

I ve stayed at about a dozen different Las Vegas strip area hotels and for low price I can recommend Bally s http://hubpages.com/hub/Ballys-Las-Vegas and Luxor http://hubpages.com/hub/Luxor-Las-VegasMandalay Bay has been offering good rates lately http://hubpages.com/hub/Mandalay-Bay-Las and is way nicer than Bally s and Luxor.Bally s has the best location, right in the center of the strip. The outlet stores are about two miles south of Mandalay Bay on Las Vegas Blvd, whereas downtown is the other way, six miles north of Mandalay Bay. Downtown is kind of a gritty urban area which is completely different from the Disneyland atmosphere of the strip. If you ve been to the tourist strip in Reno (Virginia Ave.) that s what downtown Las Vegas is like.

The Golden Nugget. They have packages that include daily buffet, etc...You ll be able to stroll Fremont Street and check out the older Downtown area. Its close to the Outlet Mall near Charleston Blvd which is the one I think you are referring to. There is a low end outlet mall South Strip that is near Luxor, but all of the Premium shops are at the outlet near Charleston.I haven t stayed in the Stratosphere but I know their rooms are cheap and it is close to Fashion Show mall. Don t forget to see the shopping malls in Caesar s, Venetian, Planet Hollywood s Miracle Mile.Have Fun!
